La Colonial 1861 offers our guests the experience of staying in an authentic colonial house. Our house is located in the central neighborhood of El Vedado with the amenities of a boutique hotel and the charm of a private home. La Colonial was built in 1861 and maintains its original structure and mosaic floors. The roof was built with French tiles and our rooms have high ceilings with exposed wooden beams. Beautiful wrought-iron trellis sorround the well in the patio. The decoration includes furniture from different ages and styles as well as pieces of art by Cuban artists.

The unique flavors, profiles, and well, food, are just some of the things that make La Colonial amazing. Great mock tails give the happiness without the booze, and spring rolls with the just right amount of sweet and tangy and Spicy. While it might not be the place for picky eaters, it’s the perfect place for people who are willing to venture out. The well-designed restraint, with its blue elevator taking you up top, make you feel like your in Vietnam. La Colonial, in conclusion, is definitely someplace you should try.

The rooms had open slats and were situated similar to a stable (possible?), something I don't have a problem with on a normal day, but the noise coming in from people walking past, and talking, from early morning until late at night was a bit much. The breakfast was lovely, one lady's pancakes were particularly yummy. I forgot her name, sadly, but she has two kids. Armando, I presume the manager, was incorrect in telling me that the bus from Havana to Playa Giron would let me out on the Autopista (I found this out later) and suggested a private transfer with Rolling Cuba, and I suspect he made a little money on the side for this 'service'. I was not impressed, in particular when he refused to call the casa I had pre-booked to see if they would be able to pick me up. In hindsight, he was probably worried they would tell me there is actually a proper bus service, but he would have missed out on his commission. If you read this, Armando, you can deny all you want; you know that I know! The decor was cute, the rest of the staff lovely, and the dogs adorable.

Dear Heidi So sorry but the house has the original arquitecthure from 1861 and it´s not an stable. I honestly disagree with your opinion and it´s very sad to me that you didn´t tell me anything personally. The house it´s exactly as you saw in our side before to confirm your booking. You have 360 grades pics too. I never refuse that you call for free from my house to the next house (I always do this with all our guest), but you never did. I always offer to the guest to call directly because I don´t want to have any responsability if when you arrive they move you to another house (like sometimes happen). This is the only reason. No, Via Azul don´t go to Playa Larga (and lot less to Playa Girón). The bus stop at Jaguey Grande and the owners of the houses send a cab to pick up the guess in this point as I explained you. But you dind´t book any bus ticket in advance and the day before your departure you ask me how to arrive to Playa Girón. So I explain you all the options (Via Azul, Colective cab or direct cab) and you decide to take a direct cab with Rolling Cuba and of course that I win money with this service because it´s my bussiness (you sign a contract with all the details of the transfer and my signature). It´s not a comission it´s my work (you can check my Rolling Cuba side and my name very clear...do you think that it was a ong for tourist?) I really know that you don´t know anything about me. I only know that you are questioning my integrity as a person and it´s a big mistake from you. Best W Armando LA COLONIAL 1861

I stayed at La Colonial 1861 for over a week in April; it was a lovely experience. Armando and his team are welcoming and gracious. This boutique B&B is away from the noise of the old city but still close enough to the action- clubs, restaurants, hotels, and music. Breakfast was fabulous, there was so much delicious fresh fruit and food that I had to say, "No mas." Armando arranged day trips throughout the city and to Trinidad. Alberto, the unofficial mayor of Cuba was my driver and we drive about 1,000 KM throughout Cuba in his 1951 pink Chevy. Dayan was my tour guide and back seat choreographer who shared his extensive knowledge about Cuban history and music. We really loved our stay and cant wait to get back to Cuba. You would too. My friends were jealous and are planning their visits as we speak based on my photos and stories.

La Colonial 1861 is a proper colonial house with a beautiful colonial interior and plenty of historical and cultural references. It is super clean and in a quiet neighbourhood. If you seek for colonial casa experience, this is the place. You get exactly what you see on the photos. You also get amazing vibes when you chill in the front yard with a small fountain and plants around you together with the colonial style layout. Rooms are impeccably clean and good sized. Armando and the rest of the staff members are very nice and helpful people, they are like family! Everybody is very discreet and there is no noise at all. I had only breakfast and I can recommend it 100%, in fact, it was the best breakfast I had in Cuba overall. Just try the guayaba - pineapple natural juice they offer. It is the best juice I had in my life. Out of curiosity, I had a little look around at other casas in Vedado, I think La Colonial 1861 is the best you can get.

My Husband and I stayed at La Colonial 1861 for over a week. Armondo and staff were amazing. Armondo was very helpful with his recommendations. The Casa with its beautiful interior was clean and the rooms were lovely. Beds very comfortable. The location was great. Just a couple of blocks from the Malacon and walking distance to restaurant's . There is a Hotel within walking distance that has a bank where you can exchange money. Breakfast was great. So much food we didn't need to eat lunch. We really loved our stay at this Casa. You would too.

La Colonial 1861 was my home away from home for over two weeks. Such a lovely experience. Armando and his staff are welcoming and so helpful. It was wonderful to be surrounded by art and books and furnishings reflecting Cuban culture and history. This boutique guest house is away from the noise of the old city but still close to the amazing Malecon, clubs, restaurants and music and it is easy to hop a bus or taxi to Habana Vieja. It's a comfortable place to meet other visitors. Armando is a gracious host and a great source of information about choices for amazing experiences in the city.

We spent 5 nights at this enchanting Guest House in Central Havana (five bedrooms with bath). Within walking distance of Melacon, night clubs and restaurants. Also, a mall with a money exchange is also within walking distance. Armando is the quintessential host. Every evening when we returned from our daily tours, he would be waiting with glasses of rum and cigars. On our arrival day, he provided us with a map of the city and directions to all the attractions. The staff were superb, especially as we communicated our wants for breakfast. We learned quickly what was fried or scrambled eggs. Each morning, we were served breakfast consisting of fried or scrambled eggs, toast, and plates of fruit. Also coffee and a different fruit juice. The rooms we had were spacious with two twin beds, safe, fully stocked mini fridge (you are billed for usage, see top of fridge for rates, and air-conditioning. We plan to return probably sometime in 2020.

We had a beautiful stay in this small vintage style hotel. It's perfectly decorated and very inspiring. It's located in great area for exploring Havana. Armando was very helpful with his recommendations for bars and restaurants. We loved our Cuban style breakfast too. The only thing we missed is a place to make our own coffee, a kettle or similar. Overall, we wouldn't change anything and we hope we'll be back someday.
