I had a great stay with two friends at Casa Pablo in Habana. Pablo is an adorable host. He helped us feel at ease in his home, helped schedule activities in Habana, and even had a jacket I forgot in Viñales brought back in the capital. The casa is ideally located in Habana, seconds from the Paseo del Prado. Everything is accessible by foot. The inner courtyard is a great plus by comparison with other casas in the city. It is great to relax and chat with friends in the evening.
We stayed two nights and the location very close to all sightseeing spots is great. Unfortunately are the rooms very old and typically cuban. The bathroom was a builtin room with a sliding door. The bedroom exited to the breakfast and chilling area. Every noise could be heard through the wooden door with a gap and especially the cigar smoke is for non-smokers not so pleasant. Overall it is a good location but I would not go there again.
Simple house with all the basic stuff you need - AC, private bathroom, clean bed and a typical Cuban breakfast (fruit, coffee, juice, butter, jam, cheese and ham). Cezar was very helpful and also helped us find accommodation in other cities (Spanish needed, no English spoken). Good location, walking distance to Havana Vieja, Malecon and basically next to Paseo Marti. We had warm water all the time but the pressure was quite low. Good place to stay, exactly what I would expect and need for the price.
When the day starts with the Casa grandmother age 96, reading us extracts in Spanish from the daily Havana newspaper over breakfast in the courtyard, you know the omens for an authentic experience are good. This Casa is a breath of fresh air in the all-consuming heat - unpretentious simplicity away from the tour trip melee - where we enjoyed several days of breathing in Habana. Not to be missed, but if fully booked the Casa is closely affiliated by overflow arrangement with Casa Maura next door. Practically you will get all the trusted help you need from a group of wonderful local residents. My impression from talking to many visitors is that for the first time indie traveller who doesn't demand 'his and hers' hotel slippers, the Casa experience is by far the best way to taste a small slice of Cuba.…
Two of us stayed here for five nights in total, at the start and end of a two week trip to Cuba. Location is brilliant, near the Prado (for evening strolls), Parque Central, Museo de la revolucion and the Malecon. It's an easy walk to the old town (10 minutes). Our room had a mezzanine level, so good for 2 friends sharing a room with 2 beds (beware stairs to upper level are steep!). Other rooms are conventional layout but the split level gave us a bit of space. Pablo, the owner and his team (Cesar and Juana) could not have been more friendly and helpful, although not much English spoken. Cesar booked taxis for us and made sure the same room was waiting for us when we came back to Havana for our last two nights. We had a late flight home but no problem leaving bags in room and having a shower before leaving at 4pm. Great breakfasts, spotlessly clean, plenty of hot water and air con (plus fans). It's a colonial building, with a nice courtyard where meals are eaten. Not luxurious but if you're travelling on a budget then ideal. Just down the quiet street from Casa Maura, where they speak good English and will arrange bookings for Casa Meneses if you don't speak Spanish or want to rely on Google Translate.…
This is the second time we have stayed In this lovely, simple yet clean home with a lovely courtyard eating area. We have eaten some of the best mangos ever In this casa and some of the freshest breakfast than in many first class resorts. The staff is gracious and accommodating. The man in charge, Cesar, extended himself for me In order to get some information. Lest I forget, their pillows were the softest of all the ones we slept on in Cuba.
We are staying 2 days in this Casa and we love it The location was perfect , you can visit the city on foot and the house charming. Pablo was not here , but the guy in charge of the Casa was helpfull , for us he arranged a taxi from Airport to Casa and a taxi from Habana to Vinales The breakfast is quite classical for Cuba he price is high and a little bit expensive compared the others Casa in this area
We spent 5 nights in these wonderful "casa particulare" and all we can say is that all the hosts are great people as they treated us like friends during our stay and helped us with our trip planning (taxies, next accomodations etc). The breakfast was great and the room very cleaned. The position is perfect, really close to Havana vieja and the majour place to see. They waited at the door while we were leaving saying goodbye to us all, I will never ever forget them. Andrea from Italy
The important things first: * the room is clean, as are the sheets and towels * the staff is very eager to help and organized all our stays in other cities. They have connections to good casas all over the country. * AC works and is silent enough to keep on during the night. * The casa is located near to various sights, but still in a calm street. A mini-market is around the corner, reliable WiFi is 10min by foot. * Breakfast is tasty. * we paid 35 CUC per night (breakfast +5 per person), but we knew there were other casas offering 30. * we did not have to pay for the night we didn't show up due to a delayed flight, even though the casa clearly wasn't at fault! However, there were some pecularities you should know about: * our room had no windows, which seemed odd at first. On the plus side, it was quiet in the night. * The refrigerator was broken and this was a known condition. We could use the staff's fridge, but being July, this really was an inconvenience. * I was able to (accidentally) pick-lock our door simply by shaking it a bit too hard. Considering that there was no safe and that the established way to travel Cuba is to bring lots of cash, this made us feel rather uneasy at first. However, staff is almost always present and Cuba is a very safe country, so the likelihood of theft is really small. * We decided to not use the closet due to its strong smell inside and stored our clothes on the second bed instead. * During the day, tiny crumbles and dust from the walls used to fall down, smudging our clothes. This can be fixed easily by leaving a small gap between the beds and the walls. All in all, we think this is part of the stereotypical "Habana Vieja"-experience: everything really IS falling apart, but people still live on. If you're after a beautiful little place to brag about in your photo blog, this is NOT it. If you want to get a remote feel for how things work in this city with a bit of tourist convenience (thank god there was AC!), this is a valuable experience (which we enjoyed twice).…
We stayed 3 nights in this Casa at the beginning of our journey through Cuba. The casa is situated very close to Habana Vieja, so that you can easily walk there but don't have the tourist hassle all around you. The room was nice, breakfast good and plenty and the owners friendly. They speak only very little English and we only speak very little Spanish so we couldn't ask all the things we wanted to ask about the town and where things were but English speaking hosts are very rare in Cuba as we realised later.
