This is not a family house, but a substantial business. You deal with different staff every day. We booked a room based on reviews and photos, but when we arrived we were told that we'll have to stay in a different building just down the street. It turned out to be a very small room, no windows, only the terrible fluorescent lighting. Claustrophobic and not welcoming at all. The amenities were good, bathroom, safe, fridge etc. Then the staff sold us internet cards for DOUBLE PRICE. We moved to a different Peregrino hostal and again got a room with NO WINDOWS. On the good side - the staff is very nice, but it's not the same experience as staying with a real family.
Friendly hosts! Very clean! Accommodating for small families. Lydia, the host, went above and beyond to get things ready for us and our three kids (ages 4 and under). Lydia, Mya (and others) prepared a lovely breakfast for us every morning. The rooms are in a great location and are very safe. I would stay there again!
We had a confirmed reservation for our family of four, but when we arrived nobody was there. We had to find another casa very late in the evening. Several new tries the next couple of days were not succesful, nobody answered and the doors were closed.
We stayed 2 nights, lovely place the room was a great size clean comfortable good bathroom and great views from the balcony. Our hosts were friendly, breakfast was lovely. I loved the decor and ambiance of the casa. The location was fantastic and within walking distance of most things we needed. There was a lot of stairs to climb didn’t bother us but maybe a consideration for some people. We will definitely stay here again when in Havana thank you
Pros: 1. Has good sized rooms to stay in. 2. Close to the old town. Cons: 1. The stairs are steep if you are carrying luggage (it's ok if you just have a backpack). 2. No free breakfast as with what the other casas offer though - or a free drink, for the relative price it charges 3. The area is not the nicest
Very nice place to stay. Lidia was so helpful and welcoming, and I would be happy to stay there again. It was in a great location. Easy to walk to the water and lots of fun bars and restaurants all around.
We stayed here for 2 nights during a trip to Cuba. Our host was a lovely lady - welcoming, friendly and very kind. The room was huge and had a balcony with great views where you could really absorb the atmosphere of Havana. Very clean, beautifully decorated and a great place to stay if you want to really feel the Cuban vibe. We would highly recommend to all and would definitely return should we return to Cuba.
We stayed here for 4 nights. This place is ideal if you want a true Havana experience. Its not luxury accommodation and doesn't pretend to be. The house itself is very cute and you feel that you are staying in someones home. The bedroom was of sufficient size and had a fan and an old AC system which was fine for this time of year (may not be sufficient in heat of summer). A fridge was provided with some drinks (no prices but seems to be around 1.50 CUC per item. Our shower leaked a bit and took a long time to heat up. Each room had a small balcony where you could sit and watch the real Havana (chickens/cats/dogs and people). You will need ear plugs as it is noisy (seems to be on a bus route). The accommodation is on the third floor so be prepared to carry your bags up a steep narrow staircase. The owner and staff are very friendly and polite. I was given a bottle of rum for my birthday and my age made out on the bed with red petals- a lovely touch. Breakfast consists of a plate of fruit, fresh baps, an omelette and beautiful coffee and fresh fruit juice - an ideal healthy way to start the day. There is one breakfast table so be prepared to share with others - we met some nice people here. Location is excellent. It is on the edge of Central Havana about 20 metres from the edge of Old Havana. The area is very safe. 10-15 mins walk will get you into main touristy areas. There is also a Bank with ATM and currency exchange(take passport) on nearby Paseo de Marti. Would recommend area around 'Cuarteles Street' if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city centre. It has some nice restaurants and bars with a more European feel - only a short walk from Hostale Balcones.…
I needed an extra night in Havana, and the Casa I was staying at was fully booked. I moved to Hostal Balcones, one street west of Paseo del Prado (Paseo de Marti). The hostel is located on the second floor of the building. A breakfast of fruit, scrambled egg & bread was served. The manager organised a taxi to take me to the airport. A nice place to stay, clean rooms with aircon & TV.
Hostal Balcones was a very lovely casa. We stayed there for only one night, but were very pleased with our stay! The casa was very beautiful and colourful, just like Havana. The rooms were clean and we had a great view! If we had any issues, we could go to our hosts and they would fix it immediately. The breakfast was also very nice!
