By far the best casa in Cuba and one of my favourite places to have stayed in the world. Carmen and Carlos are extremely kind, caring, and go above and beyond to make their place feel like home. The Casa is beautiful, retains so much original character, and is perfectly located to explore Old Havana. My bedroom was spotless, with a comfortable double bed, air con, gorgeous colonial style furniture (each with a little story - ask the hosts) and a modern en-suite. Shared facilities include a historical dining area with a balcony to watch the busy town below. There's a roof terrace filled with plants, where a delicious breakfast is served should you choose to have it (highly recommended) Carmen and Carlos are super knowledgeable, with lots of great recommendations, and will always do whatever they can to help make your Havana experience memorable. They can help advise on restaurants/bars, evenings out and day trips etc. as well as some of the more practical things about being in Cuba, (WiFi, money, transport etc) so you feel safe and comfortable throughout your stay. I would travel back to Cuba JUST to stay here, and feel I've come away with 2 new friends. Thank you guys!…
Clean, safe, cozy. These are the words explain our experience in Casa Giraldilla. Carmen & Carlos spared nothing to make us feel home. They succeeded. After every tired evening, we felt the coziness off returning our home. Every morning we woke up Carlos’ breakfast at the rooftop with fresh fruits, fruit juice, and warm fresh buns. If you are looking for a lovely family home in Old Havana, Casa Giraldilla is the one. Just take good walking shoes, soap, and a hat. You’ll have lots of walking to do in town. Not the most clean town, but Old Havana hides many gems in every corner.
My partner and I had a wonderful and memorable stay at Casa Giraldilla. Carmen and Carlos are warm, helpful, and kind hosts who made us feel very comfortable in their beautifully designed and renovated home. The old architectural charm was left intact with new and spotless bathrooms. The balconies off of the living and bedrooms, and the roof deck are a great way to watch the bustling street activity below. Breakfast was served on the roof deck with excellent juices and coffee and great chats with Carmen and Carlos. We loved our stay so much that we booked an additional night before returning home.
We have stayed in places all over the world and this is one of our favorites. It is one of those places that captures the essence of a country; it's sounds, smells, history, beauty, so that you experience that country in an "only in this place" way. Havana is a magical place and we might not have known that had we not stayed here. Much of Cuban life happens on the streets and we woke to the cries of street vendors, waved at our neighbors across the street and watched the day unfold from our balcony. The apartment is historic, sensitively renovated and elegant. The location couldn't be better. Our hosts were unbelievably kind and helpful. But to the practical: we found the apartment on booking.com and rented the whole place for our family of four adults. It has three bedrooms, each with a double or king size comfortable bed, an ensuite modern bathroom, floor to ceiling windows (most opening to balconies) and very efficient AC. Common areas include a dining/living area with two walls of French doors that open to a wrap around balcony, a newly renovated roof top terrace where we were served breakfast and relaxed at night and a kitchen where we refilled our water bottles every morning with purified water. The apartment is extremely clean and free of smoke or heavy perfume odors. Location: absolutely ideal - in the heart of old Havana and steps away from sites there and within easy walking distance to major sites in central Havana as well like the Malecon and Capitolio, easy for taxis to find, and very safe. I was afraid that the bar underneath the apartment might be noisy but it turned out to be a white noise of talk and laughter. More to the point, the sound of the street is part of Havana's charm and at any rate, can be almost completely eliminated by closing the doors and turning on the AC at night. Breakfasts are 5CUCs or about $5 a person and wonderful; eggs to order, fresh breads, cheeses, fruit, fresh juices, great coffee, selection of teas all served on pretty china in a pretty setting. Being served breakfast at Casa Giraldilla also just makes sense practically as grocery stores and bakeries are hard to come by in Havana. The hosts: they couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Communication (Carmen's English is excellent) was easy before and during our stay. They helped us with transportation, money and practical issues but were also just very open and generous about all things Cuban. They were also the perfect combination - always available when needed while allowing us to feel as though the apartment were our private space. Internet: the apartment has it and this is pretty rare in Cuba. You will need to buy cards with minutes but that is easy and well explained by Carmen. As a Cuban owned casa particular it complies with the new US regulations under reason "Support of the Cuban People." Packing: large bars of soap are provided, otherwise bring your own toiletries. There are hair dryers and umbrellas. If you bring your own water bottle, you can fill it with the purified water provided. Overall, we had a wonderful stay at Casa Giraldila, cannot recommend it more and would love to return.…
We stayed here over the weekend in November 2019 and the welcome, the room and the service were excellent. Such a great location and lovely owners. A very welcome surprise was a the high ceilings keeping the room cooler, a great balcony and a very modern em-suite bathroom. We stayed in room 2 and it was excellent. If you want a welcoming, homely and very comfortable room to stay in Havana with a perfect breakfast for 5CUC then THIS is the place. Excellent throughout - a beautiful home from home.
We stayed for 3 nights at Casa Giraldilla and absolutely lovely this place. Carlos and Carmen are very kind. Good size room, very clean, AC, very good breakfast. The location is wonderful close at most touristic attractions. We easy walk to a Malecon, la bodequita del medio, plaza vieja, el capilio etc. next year I’ll be back and stay at same place. Thank you Carlos e Carlos see you next year.
We stayed twice with Carmen, and enjoyed her hospitality and cooperation regarding not only accomodation, but exploring the city, transportation and finding cigars. The rooms are small, but have all amenities, do not refuse the breakfast, which is optional, you will not be able to find anything proper for snack around. The place is situated perfectly, convenient both for exploring the old city, and taking the tour buses to the beaches. Neighbourhood is spectacular, nice bar downstairs. Highly reccomended for all types of travellers.
We stayed a couple of days in this beautiful Casa. Our whole family, 2 parents and 3 children, enjoyed the hospitality of Carmen and Carlos. Nice rooms, tasty breakfast and it is a good location to explore the city. Carmen speaks English very well, it makes it easy to get information. Thank you Carmen and Carlos for a great stay!
I stayed at Casa Giraldilla twice. It is located at the the corners of Calle Tejadillo and Calle Aguacate, which is not the location shown on the map near the railroad station. It is in a very nice area of old Havana. The owners are very helpful and very hospitable. The guest house is very clean and well furnished in a spanish colonial style. I would definitely stay there again.
