Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This place had terrible food, day after day. Chicken bones, stale bread, bomy fish, mystery gray dishes. They know the food is bad. The chef must hate people. The Ala cart restaurant serves much better food. (Clean resort, nice staff, okay rooms for the price, great beach, horrible food) . ( we transferred to a different resort)

I was a frequent visitor to this hotel since 2003. I know, I heard it many times - Anything can happen in Cuba - expect the unexpectedly. I can go with very little but the annoying part this time was no bottled water. A walk to the store - no bottled water. A walk to the next resort- no bottled water. I asked the cleaning lady - she just took the tip and brought no bottled water. The reception gave me an empty USED bottle to CLEAN and ask the bar to fill it up with water. This was so f-D up for an all inclusive.

The hotel itself is an older hotel. This hotel is much better than the Marazul Hotel (Troppicco). One negative is the low water pressure in the shower. The location is just great. The natural light at the hotel is also a bonus. A real small and cozy hotel. No shortage of misquotes. They should be spraying the grounds to eliminate the number of mosquitos. Yaine is one of the most helpful, kind, and hardworking staff at the restaurant. She went above and beyond to assist me and many others. Yaine, you are the best! Yaine, you are Awesome!

I was there for 7 days. There are positive and negative things The Good -friendly staff -the beach - The pool - bar opened 24 hours - shuttle to Havana - You meet locals as 90% of the people at that hotel are Cubans The Bad -Hotel needs renovations as it’s very old - No hot water before 9am - Food was average at best . No variety. Everyday was the same - dining room was full of flies . Flies walking all over the buffet - Not many variety of drinks. Drinks are served in small plastic glasses - I expected more from the entertainment - TV didn’t work ( I didn’t complain as I didn’t travel to Cuba to watch TV ) - Mini bar fridge didn’t work - The sink in the bathroom was leaking

I have been at this hotel a few times over the course of +30 years. I have always known that the buffet wasn't great but always got a decent meal at El Caribeño, the a la carte restaurant. This time, it was a disappointment, i made a reservation twice. the first time the fish was so salty that i though it was salted cod. one day there was balsamic vinager for the salad but not oil, The next day they had oil but not vinager. I asked for salt and they brough it in a plastic glass. out of 15 days i only stay 3½ days. I came to havana, going back the last 2 days, just for the transfer to the airport This was my first visit after covid. they still have some health measures that make the buffet even worse. You can't serve yourself so. many times, i got some food and i have to wait for a server to get some other items while the hot food was getting cold. Then at the table you have to wait for a waiter to bring you the cutlery. at one breakfast my omelette was so cold I couldn't eat it. I skipped lunch twice and got a ham and cheese sandwich at the pool. to me the buffet is like a workers canteen. the food is not attractive although it tastes good, and limited variety. For the salad there is never dressing. The diluted yogurt with water; a server one day couldn't differentiate between yogurt and milk. hot water was a miss. no glasses in the rooms and no place to buy bottled water the good side: it is right at the beach, friendly staff. The rooms were clean and the beds nice and firm.

Such an awful hotel. Needs a lot of restauration. This is a one star hotel. Untasteful food with not much variation. The restaurant was like eating in a military cantin while the staff watched you so you did’nt steel or walk away with your coffe to the bar. The bar just served beer, rum and coffe. Everything in small plastic glasses which you could see thrown away all over the place including the beach.

Sure was a Cuban trip. Food was not great but staff and entertainment made up for it. Met a wonderful staff member there that I am still friends with 6 years later. Beach was good and we did a couple of tours that were fantastic. Got to love Cuba. Trip advisor would not let me go back so far but I had just realized I had not reviewed the resort. We are in the middle of Covid now, but it should be on a must do list. Havana is amazing.

I stayed here in December for two weeks. I had a superior room. My room was clean and the property is clean. As there are many shortages in Cuba the hotel ran out of basics such as milk or certain types of alcohol. This is typical of Cuba and expected. Not the hotel's fault. I found the staff at the hotel friendly. The beach is fantastic. Remember this is a 3-star hotel so don't expect lobster and seafood. I enjoyed my stay very much and would return. My only problem was the Covid testing. The hotel does not provide Covid testing for your return. You must go to Vedado in Havana and the wait is terrible. Very disorganized. I expected them to email me the results which they didn't and I had to pay $25 USD to take a taxi to Havana on the day I was leaving to pickup my result I know this is not the hotel's fault but please be aware of this. Remember this is Cuba and everything does not work the same as here in Canada or the United States. Overall I had a wonderful time and hope to return in the new year. Remember to talk to people and get tips regarding exchanging your dollars for Cuban pesos. They no longer use the convertible peso that was pegged to the American dollar. Our guide on the bus shuttle to the hotel gave us tips. Enjoy your stay and stay safe.

This hotel opened the same time Cuba did after pademic closure but as people got used of not working or being half working that is what is offered but you paid full price in euros.I got romm 107 and the noise the door does is too lud when opening or closing that I doubt anyone in the area could sleep. Also I found a roach in the hallway walking like in her house. All this is nothing compared to the fact that when you get awaken late at night food srvice is not provided not even a hamburger or a tapa so yes there is alcohol but nothing else.I got late one night and I hadnt got dinner because my stomach was not ok so when I asked for something to eat first I was said after 11 and then that only bread was offered so this is a non inclusive hotel paid as an inclusive. The cafeteria lady when asked by the afternoon for a hamburger told me they were half service because they were now opening so next time I wait till 2 months they realize they are opened before I pay my all inclusive hotel. There were good things like teh singer Saturday night entertainment very nice and good voice and attitude and Esperanza and the guy serving in the salad cheese area(tall black nice guy with a pretty smile behind his mask).Internet not free and not so good either.

Hotel is like most in cuba. Tired and not maintained properly. However rooms are clean and everything worked. ( tv, fridge, shower, lamps etc)
Weather in January is this area is 18-26 degrees daily. Wind and rain are not a surprise. Pool water was dirty with bugs and leaves etc.. floating around. Hotel is the only beach front hotel at playa del este. Beach is one of the best beaches I’ve ever seen. And I’ve travelled a lot. Covid related- everyone is wearing mask all the time , indoors and outdoors. Due to Covid-19,many places are closed, ( small restaurants little kiosks etc) Covid testing facility is 40km away ( on the other side of Havana) and it will cost you 1000 pesos return trip to go get tested , and another 1000 to pick up results. They don’t mail them, they don’t fax them.testing is only done 9-12 am but picking up is 24/7 ( so they say) You need to pick them up. Out of 3 tests they did for my group, they make mistakes in typing names on 2. Then we waited more for the results to be re-typed . Test is 30usd . -credit card only- visa only. In addition they double charged me which I’m still to call visa about. If cab is split 4 ways, that’s 20usd a person plus 30 for test each. It will also cost you two days at 3 hours each. Because of Covid and small number of tourists there are no taxis readily available. You better book it a day or two before and hope they show up.
When you first arrive and are tested at the airport, they give you a a yellow arm band in the hotel. You’re not supposed to go anywhere with yellow band but there’s nobody stopping you if you do. Then you wait 3 full days and on the morning of the 4th day, you get green band. Internet in the hotel doesn’t work longer than 30 seconds, but they won’t know this as in general their English skills are poor and their IT understanding not existent. Food is excellent for cuba ( and I’ve been to 15+ Cuban resorts)
They actually had salads ( veggies are rare at these places) and they had chicken, beef or pork in various meals which is also rare. Stuff is trying to help, but with their limited knowledge this often amounts to no help at all. Also, CUC is accepted only in the bank and nowhere else. CAD is only accepted in the bank as well. CUC = 24, USD =24 and CAD 16 pesos.
If you ask anyone else you will get 30 up to 38 peso per USD . People desperately look for USD. I routinely exchanged USD for 33-36 pesos without issues in small stores or restaurants.
All in all, with waiting 3 days for results, 50USD AND 6 hours wasted to test again, stress of organizing it and anticipation of results ( what if you test false positive?) makes the trip unpleasant . Walking to the east 3 km on the road next to the beach will get you to another hotel. You may walk in ( like I did) only to find out that it’s a Hotel for asymptomatic Covid patients. Of course no guard at the beach .. once you walk in you may be in trouble and not be able to leave..
Personally I like adventure, so I didn’t mind any of this, however anyone who is looking for relaxing vacation.. this ain’t it.
