I booked 5 nights in Hotel Acuario to do the mandatory COVID quarantine. Even though it might seem cheap compared to standard prices of hotels in Havana, the Acuario quarantine package was not really the cheapest of all, however affordable. Nevertheless, I'm deeply disappointed and angry. Be sure, if I could, I would go anywhere else than staying here the remaining nights. So be advised: - at my arrival at the hotel the check in took 2h even though there were only 2 persons at the reception desk. The reception lady was simply too busy answering personal calls at the phone to check us in, who were very tired after hours of flying. - the floor of the room was flooded - bathroom pipes are not working properly, dirty water stagnates for hours - the hotel service sucks. As I'm in mandatory quarantine I depend on the in-room dinning service. Every meal is brought to me at whatever time they estimate convenient. Just as an example, my yesterday lunch was at 3pm and dinner at 7pm. and I was waiting my breakfast today since 6am, and it was served at 10.20am after I called every one possible in the hotel. I strongly do not recommend this hotel to anyone even with the lowest expectations.

Unfortunately our flight came in late evening, so we choose a hotel with 24h reception. Was the worst experience of our trip. Staff is friendly, rooms are clean - but it is not the All-Inclusive offer we expected. The food was bad and so are the drinks. The pool was in poor condition. There are many better options - not that expensive - around.

After having 10 amazing days between Cayo Santa Maria and Varadero we decided to finish our vacation with 3 nights at the Acuario Resort at Marina Hemingway on Havana, despite of all the bad online reviews . What a surprise when we saw all the safety issues at the resort, beginning with the broken plastic drains of the pool where anybody can fall and broke a bone, then the potholes on the walkway through the resort, they was not capable to replace two triple A batteries for the TV, for my daughter to watch anything. On top of that when you when to the only restaurant at the resort(on there website they claim to have specialty restaurants includes on the all inclusive price), nobody introduced there self, is like been on a first come first serve cafeteria, if you want water or anything else you need to hunt the employees that are there talking each other and listening music, bud not taking care of the customer, if you ask for simple things like butter, natural juice, etc, always you get the same answer” Sorry but with don’t have in house, that is problem of the bosses(Food and Beverages manager or general managers), if you want to file a complaint ask for them. When I ask for them, they was not kind enough to come and took with m. Not all is bad employees at front desk do there self to help, services at the lobby bar where as expected, we have problems with the air conditioning of the rooms and the maintenance guys fixed and always was willing to help, I will not recommend this hotel to anyone because between the safety issues to the tourist and the lack of care from all the leadership of the hotel, this is a shame to Cubanacan who is one of the pioneers companies on Cuba. I will stay at this hotel until Monday, but if the PR department or any other manager of the hotel will want to give me and answer the can ask for my at reception. My name is Sandy Padron

We spent two weeks at Club Acuario in February, 2019. It was a very good experience. We recommend upgrading to the junior suite, which proved to be a very spacious room with a huge king-sized bed, separate shower and separate washbasin/dressing room. It looked like it had been recently renovated. The elevator was working. There was a variety of food, and willing staff to prepare the omelets, meat, or pasta as you wished. There was always lots of fruit and vegetables and the ice cream was lovely. The staff were very obliging. Every night there was entertainment in the dining hall and by the pool. The pool was one of the largest we have seen and was always beautiful and clean. From Club Acuario was very easy access to Old Havana, either by free bus, bus tours or taxi. The canals held an assortment of boats and yachts. All in all a very positive experience.

My boyfriend and I stayed for one night at the end of our trip as it was closer to the airport than downtown Havana. I don’t know how to say this politely, this was the worst hotel I have ever been to. The good: - They were happy to organise a taxi to the airport in the early hours of the morning for us - The synchronized swimming show was actually quite impressive The bad: - We were taken to our room to discover the power was off and air conditioning didn’t work. The employee fixed the power but couldn’t solve the AC. We didn’t mind as it luckily wasn’t that hot. - The balcony door didn’t lock - There was a sanitary sticker from a bikini stuck to the bathroom door - The shower had no light so I had to use my phone (in a waterproof case) - The hotel probably has around 500 rooms, I think there couldn’t have been more than 15 people staying. Half the hotel lights were off and it looked abandoned with doors hanging off. - The pool was dirty and full of plastic cups - Only one or two of the staff speak any English - The food was abysmal. The buffet salads looked like they’d been sat there for weeks. I took a couple of bites of bread and rice however my partner was brave and tried the meat. Unfortunately he suffered the consequences and was extremely ill for the duration of our flight home. - We did see cockroaches. This sort of thing doesn’t bother me as it’s normal in warm countries but I know some people would be put off. Honestly I wish I could be kinder but we stayed in a lovely air bnb in downtown Havana at the start of the trip and I wish we’d just gone back there.

After reading the reviews I was already on alert going here. Yes the place is dated and there are leaks and there are areas that aren't sparkling and new like 5 star hotels you might be used to in other parts of the world but this is CUBA. They do what they can with what resources they have. I don't believe this is the fault of management. The staff is super. They are friendly if You are friendly and I went in with a smile and got only smiles back. The concierge Peter was fantastic and gave us clear instructions on how to get the shuttle and transfer to get to another marina to find a fishing charter. We wanted to go to the little market down the street and the staff gave us a ride in a golf cart and even offered to come back and get us but we opted to walk the short distance. Sandra the chef was wonderful and came to our table to chat and see how things were going and all of the food was delicious. She was warm and showed us photos of her family and made us feel welcome. One of our friends wanted fish and it wasn't on the buffet so they went out and made her a beautiful fish dish without her even asking them to. The only reasons why I didn't give this hotel 5 stars (Stars are relative considering where we are) were 1.) I was told I had to get out of the pool at 6 pm for a pool show that didn't even start until 9:30 pm. I thought that was odd and uncomfortable since it was pretty hot. 2.) There aren't enough serving spoons, ladles etc at the buffet so one spoon dips into many dishes from tomato to cream to broth and back again. If you go, do me a favor and stop at the dollar store and grab some big spoons and ladles and give them to the kitchen. There really aren't any "stores" with simple supplies like this here in Cuba. 3.) You aren't really close to the center of Havana. It will take a half hour by taxi (25 CUCS) or more than an hour on the free shuttle with a transfer half way. Overall I would give the Hotel Acuario a Thumps Up!

I have enjoyed my stay, for 2 nights and for further 4 nights. Great food and friendly staff. Further from city centre, but a bus takes you free of charge 5 times a day. Within budget and all the perks of an all inclusive

My arrival at this hotel was terrible, a surly women at the front desk said : no Canadian money! though currency exchange was included in their brochure! Also tried to con me by saying that $20. CDN was only worth $10. Cuc on my safe key deposit ! I said try $15. CDN! She was replaced by a kinder woman that took my $20.- and gave me a receipt for it. And I got the $20. back when I left The other woman had said no phone calls allowed to Canada. She was replaced by a goy who offered his cell phone and took my Canadian money in payment. The next day I phoned Alicia from Air Transat. She came to the Hotel with lots of CUC's and took my Canadian money at .76 CDn to 1 Cuc which was the official rate. The tour into Havana was without tour guides or a bus driver who spoke English so I didn't go. But Pedro the hotel porter- a wonderful guy, arranged a tour through Juan Carlos with Danay as the English speaker which was great. Juan Carlos had a 1950 Chev which looked like it came out of the showroom. I learned to drive on a 1953 chev so it was dela vu... Back to the Hotel. The elevator did not work- I was on the 3rd of the 4 floors. So i got lots of exercise. The shower sometimes had no hot water but I can do with cold. The sink had hot water if you let it run, but avoid putting toilet paper directly into the toilet. Flush your waste first then toilet paper. Or put toilet paper into a plastic bag marked: for personal hygiene. The cleaning staff and wait staff were great. And most of the clientele were Cuban so with my lack of Spanish there was a lot of nodding and smiling. But in a way that was the highlight of the trip and you could walk anyplace off the grounds without harassment. The food was edible but the Orange JUice was great- the best I've had in Cuba! Back to the Money Issue- The would Take American. Now here's the problem: Americans told me they were getting $ .85 to $.95 to one CUC when both currencies are supposed at par! So beware! AS far as this hotel goes I will not go back but I will go back to Havana.
