In a nutshell, hotel and property is very nice and being right on the beach is a real plus. Drawbacks are the restaurants on the property, especially the Calabash Cafe - very rude female wait staff; no problems with the male wait staff.
We have just returned home from our third two week stay at the Bougainvillea. We are a family of 5, with three young boys aged 7, 5 and 5. We all absolutely love the Bougainvillea. We stay in a 2 bedroom beach front apartment which...More

There is a very small market when you go out of the hotel to the right. It’s about a 3 minute walk. They really don’t sell much. There was wine, beer and water. Water was not sold by the case. They had a few snacks, not a place that I would recommend if you want groceries. We hired a driver for the day and we had him stop at Massey’s. We were able to get our cases of water and snacks. I wasn’t looking for groceries but it is a well sized supermarket, just be prepared to pay island prices$$$. The concierge can help you with booking excursions but you do have to pay for them. I highly recommend going to the boatyard. We paid 100USD for a family of 4 which included sun beds and umbrellas. We were giving 80.00 credit toward lunch and drinks after paying the entrance. It covered lunch for the 4 of us and drinks for me and my husband. Included in the admission fee is a free boat ride to snorkel, equipment included, over to Carlisle Bay to see the shipwrecks. There are trampolines in the water as well as a swinging rope and diving platform off the dock. Beautiful, calm and seaweed free water. Best place we went to. Enjoy!
