#6 of 16 B&Bs / Inns in St. John's
Royal Cove is a cozy Guesthouse consisting of 10 rooms and is located on the southern side of Antigua. Each room has two balconies; one at the front and the other at the rear of the building. The balcony at the front overlooks Jolly Harbor and the pool. The balcony at the back provides a scenic view of the hillside. The rock on the hillside forms the image of the face of an Indian, therefore the rock is called the sleeping Indian. There are also two public beaches less than a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Available are single rooms, double rooms, and two bedroom suites. All rooms are fully air conditioned including telephone, television and internet access is available. The popular Jolly Harbor is just a stone throws away. There you will find everything you need from banking services to restaurants, super markets, casinos and a spectacular golf course. All rooms are equipped with cooking utensils. There will also be a fully air conditioned bus available for shopping and touring.

We travel to Antigua quite frequently due to family committments but we are not complaining its a beautiful Island. After not being able to secure our flights we lost our original booking of a villa at Jolly Harbour so my cousin reccomended me trying Royal Cove as she knows i like new challenges and vetting accommodations abroad. I was warned its a little off the beaten track and near the very back gate of Jolly Harbour (or can be approached via Jennings) by which i knew would be a very useful addition to staying at Royal Cove as it has shops, restaurants, and most amenities. We was met by the conceirge/caretaker Mr Hunt who was extremely helpful and sorted out our luggage quickly and efficiently, he then switched on the aircon which cooled the property immediately, once sorted Mr Hunt offered to take us to the supermarket to stock up for the next few days until we found our feet. The views from the apartment balcony which was huge is stunning overlooking Jolly Harbour we had beautiful meals watching the magical sunsets. The apartments are reasonably clean, fresh linen, towels, toilet and kitchen paper, bin bags all supplied by caretaker nothing was too much for him to make us as comfortable as possible, the grounds around the property is well kept with flowering garden and they also have a pool but we didnt use it as we explored the numerous beaches instead. Large kitchen with all amenities although some need updating but we was out most of the time so happy with what the apartment offered. This is definitely for the self catering crowd a little off beaten track along a dirt road which is dusty be warned but not a huge problem. We hired a car which is reccomended free parking on site all in all good value for price and location.

After all these months of peace and quiet the loud crazy music starts again. Noise pollution across Jolly Harbour....really no need! It's disrespectful. Avoid if can. Can't be pleasant for any guests there if there are any at all.

This isn’t a luxury boutique hotel - far from it. However, now that my kids are older, all inclusive hotels no longer give us free child deals, and also we want separate rooms. The 2 bedroom apartment was perfect for our needs, and cheaper than a caravan for a week back at home. I am a flight attendant, so get standby tickets really cheap, so understand that flight costs to Antigua mean that it’s a fairly expensive holiday, and once you are here, grocery shopping and meals out are about double that of the UK and US. I brought half a suitcase full of dried stores, long life baguettes etc, so we had breakfast and lunch sorted and only evening meals to budget for. A car is pretty essential, but we drove all over the island and only spent £30 on fuel. Mr Gabriel and his team really make you feel welcome, and even though there’s not a daily clean, they swap over bed linen and towels during the week. The beds are super comfy, (if a bit squeeky), and the linen used is so soft. Pillows a bit flat, but hey ho. The kitchen has big fridge freezer, cooker, blender, kettle - and enough there for a proper self catering holiday. The bathroom is dated, but shower is good pressure, and they provide soap, toilet paper and hairdryer. The front balcony has views to die for - we were on the top floor, room 8. The grounds are immaculate and either side of the pool, kids could easily play football on the grass. The pool is big enough, clean, and has plenty of chairs, but only 4 lounge chairs. The dirt track road leading to the apartment and on to Hermitage Bay is pot holey, so beware. Our favourite beaches were Galleon, (fab snorkelling and an abandoned hotel - very Scooby Doo), Hermitage, (5 mins drive away, great coral reef), Valley Church and Ffryers Beach. If we had of stayed in an A.I. Hotel, we wouldn’t have explored the island as much. I would recommend this hotel for anyone who camps, caravans and isn’t too precious about having all the luxuries around them. Our apartment had 3 a/c units, so lovely and cool. Few cockroaches, but I have had those in 5 star establishments - it’s just normal in the Caribbean. Overall I would definitely return, as this is a beautiful island and the Royal Cove is great value and felt safe and secure the whole holiday.

Room Tip: Even lower floor rooms have sea views, but apartment 8 was great.

We read reviews that said it was good and we were pleased we stayed. It’s easy enough to find though down a typically Antiguan bumpy dirt road. The apartments are well kitted out, cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, kettle, plates, saucepans etc. A lovely clean pool and what great views over jolly harbour. Very quiet location but really you need a car. If you turn right n drive for 2 mins you get to hermitage bay beach, like all beaches in Antigua it’s open to all but the resort at hermitage bay charges between £1500 and £2000 a night!! Stay here at royal cove n you get the same beach for £80 a night. The owners were very helpful gave info re shops, restaurants and fuel. So great value for money, very quiet, real comfy bed, lots of hot water n a clean pool with views. Stay here 👍
