OK, so this isn't a glitzy, 5 star destination - and all the better for not being the sort of hotel you can find anywhere in the world. It's comparativley small and compact, right on the beach, family owned and run. The staff are outstanding - so friendly and helpful, looked as if they enjoyed workinmg there and serving guests!! We had some interesting conversations. Wonderful food - we looked forward to every meal. Excellent coffee machine in the reception area where we could also fill our water bottles with filtered still or sparkling water - very good arrangement. Super massage with the sound of the waves in the background... Spent 14 days there in the first half of April - now in the process of booking to return next January: I think that says it all!
Had a 2 week break here, it was amazing. First time in the Caribbean and all inclusive couldn't have been better in our opinion. Friendly staff, dry sense of humour which I can only imagine went over some of the other reviewers heads. Can't single out any one person as would be unfair! Also met lots of nice guests from UK and US and beyond. Our room on the 3rd floor had amazing sea views even from the corridor let alone from the room. Lovely big room, best bed ever, super clean and tidied every day and the air con was the quietest I'd ever experienced. Bathroom was, as people have said, slightly dated but hard to criticize it as was super clean and everything worked perfectly. Beaches small but virtually deserted so like a private beach just for us most of the time. Some weed underfoot but hard to find that off-putting as the water was lovely and sandy patches once you get right in. Pool was lovely too. So if you like a relaxed, chilled out atmosphere, good food (our fault for over indulging if we felt we'd had enough of it towards the end!) and plenty of drinks served with a smile you will have a great time. Lots to do on Antigua, we particularly enjoyed the Power Snorkeling, hiring a car and surviving the potholes, getting the minibus to and from St John's, and Hemingways in St John's. Thank you Ocean Point.…
From the first moment we arrived at the resort, nothing was too much trouble for the staff to sort for you, we stayed for 2 weeks & although the menu was the same as the previous week, we always had a different choice. Special shout out to Kerry Ann & Dezey & their staff in restaurant & bar area
Fabulous hotel with two amazing beaches. Exactly how you think the Caribbean will be. Superb friendly staff who will do anything to make your stay happy. The food in the restaurant is a bit limited on choices for the All inclusive but all very tasty with amazing views of the ocean whilst eating there.
We have been to Antigua before, but stayed on Jolly Beach. Hodges bay is beautiful, but cannot compare to Jolly Beach. The water is not as clear and blue, and you cannot go in without water shoes . Check in was nice and easy and the rum punch served at reception was very good . Drinks were good, but most of the time we stood at the bar waiting for someone to show up. Food choices could have been better. And good luck trying to get a refill on your drinks . Most of the time they serve you and don't follow up to see how everything is or if you need anything. The Hours for breakfast , lunch and dinner are horrible . About 2 hour period open for each meal, times should be extended. They're apparently closing in May for renovations , but looks like work has already started . Drilling in the middle of the day is not what we like to hear when we are trying to relax . Would not recommend this resort. …
My b/f and I visited Ocean Point for a week and I can’t say enough great things about our experience. We hadn’t traveled since well before the pandemic and to be honest I just wanted a relaxing holiday. What was got was even better. From the time we arrived at the front desk until the day we checked out, everything was amazing! I had read reviews that said to ask for a room with direct access to the pool. I had messaged the resort beforehand to request this and understandably was told that they might not be able to accommodate. No problem at all. When we were taken to our room though we did get a room right at the pool, which was fantastic! Check in was super smooth and the front desk ladies were so kind and informative. The rum punch was also delicious! Our room was a good size and the air con worked very well. Having a fridge in the room was great and although the shower was a bit tight, it was not a big deal. The views were absolutely gorgeous and I loved that the two beaches were secluded so there were no pushy vendors like you will find at other resorts. It is a small resort but this is a great thing. We got to meet some great people and make new friends from all over. We were a bit sad that we didn’t see a couple we had met before they left, so Becky/Tim, if you are reading this, it was great to meet you and we had a lot of fun! I can’t say enough good things about the staff. Not a bad experience with anyone. Everyone was so friendly and with it being a smaller resort they get to know you and your preferences. The personal touch makes a huge difference. From the first night, Kahul learned my name and greeted me by name every time I went to the bar. Danayene (I’m so sorry if I misspelled that) was absolutely fantastic and even hugged me goodbye when we left. Ashanti was caring and concerned when my face swelled up a bit from too much sun one day. I really apologize that I didn’t get everyone’s name but we also want to give a big thanks to the employee who got us a bucket of ice one night. Every morning when I went to the lobby to fill my water bottle I was always warmly greeted by a lovely Italian woman (sorry I didn’t get her name), who I assume was the manager/owner. The food was beyond expectation. This was the first time I had been to a resort that didn’t have a buffet so I wasn’t sure what to expect but it was absolutely fantastic. Every night we especially looked forward to the appetizers at dinner as they were always delicious. A big thanks to the staff who accommodated us on our last night when we asked for extra orders of the beef gyoza! It was our first time at Ocean Point (but not in Antigua) and certainly won’t be our last. We are hoping to be able to return in November. Thank you to everyone and we hope to see you all again soon!…
My friend and I stayed here for 10 days arriving on the 16th of April and leaving on the 26th. We had the best time here. The hotel was very quirky had two lovely beaches and a lovely pool. The room was just right for us although we did have to share a bed but no biggie! The view from the balcony was absolutely gorgeous!! The shower was small but didn’t effect us at all. We had clean towels everyday and toilet roll and tissues were provided everyday when low. The ladies on reception were absolutely brilliant, helping us out with everything we inquired about and remembering our names. A massive shout out to Tia (we hope that’s her name). The restaurant staff were also amazing, remembering that we wanted still water and bread rolls. They always asked how we were and always had a smile on their face, every now again the service was a bit slow but only at dinner but there was always a wait as it got so busy! Everything we ate was absolutely delicious. Another massive shout out to the waitress with red hair (sorry don’t know her name) she was lovely, asking how we were when she hadn’t seen us in a while and always making us smile. As we were two of the younger guests they were calling us baby but we thought that was just a sweet touch. They were always polite and professional. We can’t remember the name of one of the porters/cleaners but he had plaits in his hair and was really lovely too, always saying morning to us and asking how we were. Most of the bar staff were lovely, the only problem we had was with a member called Ashanti. She looked like she didn’t want to be there, no smile on her face and always making comments about us not remembering staff names, but their are so many I don’t see how we could, but we remembered hers!! Sometimes you would have to wait at the bar for someone to come along but most of the time there was only one person on it so it wasn’t a big deal. If you want to make friends this is the place to go as it is a small resort and all the guests get to know each other. It was my friends birthday whilst we were out there and they put a bottle of champagne on the bedroom cabinet and a card saying happy birthday, all the staff were also wishing her a happy birthday. The only thing we would say is everyone we saw who had a birthday got a pudding with a candle and sang too whereas my friend didn’t. The only thing that did annoy us and no fault of the hotel at all but we hired a car through a company called go Caribbean and we asked where we could park in town when the lady dropped it off. She said anywhere except on double yellow lines so we drove around for about half and hour looking for a spot. When we did find one we ended up getting a parking ticket as it was cruise ship day and you needed a parking permit so that was £150 down the drain!! But again no fault of the hotel. Thank you so much to everyone at ocean point and if we came to Antigua again we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here.…
We booked 10 days at this resort as our first trip to Antigua and to celebrate our 35th Wedding Anniversary and we had a wonderful time. Our feeling was that the impact of Covid has limited the investment resorts such as Ocean Point could make in the last 2 years and so whilst many of the comments from others suggesting the resort could benefit from some maintenance and upgrading are correct, what many forget is that they want 5* quality for 3* prices and it's not comparable. We found the WiFi worked well in the resort apart from the farthest parts of the restaurant and the main beach. The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful and a few names we wanted to thank were Rosanna, Donella, Alridge, Kerry-Anne, Ashanti, Ithamar and Kean but all the others were great too. We stayed under an all-inclusive package which proved amazing value. The bar was open from 10am -11pm and whilst you couldn't get every type of drink there were local beers, Rum and various cocktails plus soft drinks. The restaurant was table service and the meals were 3 courses, often with a fish theme and quite a lot of variety. The food was hot, amazingly presented and good quality. The pool could benefit from some maintenance but was clean and the young chaps that set out the pool loungers and bar chairs were always friendly. Sadly, there were too many 'towel bandits' that were often British (sadly) that put out their towels before 7am and monopolised certain loungers and positions. One couple of mature ladies were insistent on their wicker loungers being just over the bridge! Free pool and beach towels were provided each day. The rooms were clean as was the whole resort and whilst the bathrooms could have been upgraded it was interesting to see they had huge TVs that we didn't use but would have welcomed upgraded facilities. The rooms had air con and this was needed. The reception desk helped when we wanted to travel into St Johns by Bus (and made us chuckle when they asked - are you sure! - but it was merely the condition of the buses and the erratic timetables. We booked several trips out with St James' Travel and felt they were good. We also hired a car and the hotel has a car park nearby. We know the resort is less than a thirds of what some friends are spending at Sandals etc but we were more than happy with Ocean Point and would readily return here and would recommend to our friends.…
A great holiday. Beautiful views from our ocean view room. fantastic staff that are really friendly. Good choices were great and all table service. Plenty of drinks to choose from. The pool was huge and great for a proper swim! Rooms spacious, but bathrooms a little dated. Well worth a visit!!
We have just spent 9 nights at this beautifully located resort - right on the beaches (two of them, one quite small, linked by a boardwalk) on the north coast. Fabulous breeze keeps it feeling a little less oppressive than other islands we have visited. It's very quiet (perfect for us but maybe not for others) - a 20 minute walk to the local shop (a rum shop with a few shelves essentially) and nothing at all the other way until you reach the edge of St John's. The room was absolutely immaculate and cleaned daily; most other areas also very clean and tidy. Yahoos!: Most staff very friendly and would go out of their way to help Large pool Proximity to beach Plenty of loungers on the beach and round the pool Food mostly very good and plentiful (portions may appear small sometimes but there are several courses) - a la carte Very relaxing Reception staff can arrange pretty much anything for you - trips, car hire, guided tours, taxis, shuttles to St John's Beach towels available daily 'Fair enough' points: Service might feel a little tardy to some - remember this is the Caribbean and you can't do anything fast due to the heat! Sometimes had to wait a few minutes for someone to arrive to serve you at the bar etc. Pool was cold - but do you expect a heated pool in the Caribbean? It was 'refreshing' and once you were in - no problem! Furnishings in the room were basic and the air con was OK but not brilliant - but this is a 3 star resort and how much time do you spend in your room? The bed was large and comfortable and the room temperature fine Balcony was warm due to the air con unit but the whole Caribbean is warm! Entertainment once a week - but we prefer it to be quieter. Would have been nice to have something a steel pan playing rather than a DJ mixing quite recent hits (for a reasonably 'senior' clientele) 'Oops, could really do with some work' issues: A few staff gave the impression that you were an inconvenience - but not many. One or two are probably quite new and really didn't know what they were doing (restaurant). Detail is lacking - we had to repeatedly ask for bread rolls (sometimes got them, sometimes didn't, once had one you could have used as a cricket ball etc.), water topping up was hit and miss, requests for drinks went missing or were slow to appear. Menu a bit limited and as others have said, consistently didn't have something that was on the menu; we prefer a later dinner and often had to wait for a table (why not put a timed system in place?) and there weren't really enough staff to cope when at full capacity - but we shouldn't be penalised on items not available because we chose to dine later and they had run out... Entire resort is very tired - lots of maintenance that hasn't been done, wooden boards in poor condition, tiling around the top of the pool is poor, had to call someone to look at the dangerous electrics in my bedside light (which wasn't really adequate to read by), bathroom very grotty (cheap toilet seat and very cheap toilet roll, taps had been replaced but previous holes left or covered over by superglued shells, all water is warm or hotter (no temp control in shower), no plug for sink, water in sink either dribbles or soaks you, significant water damage around sink area, ripped shower curtain, poor finish of fittings etc. - the photos on their website are very old and the resort does not look like this at present Do not understand the lack of tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms - how is everyone using the same coffee machine downstairs more sanitary? People we spoke to had seen a lot of ants around the machine one day Why, oh why, can they not provide enough cutlery at dinner so you have to keep it between courses??? HOWEVER: None of these were deal breakers for us - they didn't really affect the relaxing experience and were more niggles. The resort is being closed down from May to October to be refurbished and with this in mind we would visit again. BIGGEST (NON-NEGOTIABLE) NIGGLES: Pool area, loungers and shades.... First step down to into the pool is a big one - not easy to manage for anyone with mobility issues (one gentleman we were with was facing a holiday without getting in but brilliant staff made him his own step - good job well done there!) Variety of sun loungers - about 10-12 comfy rattan and padding loungers (mostly under sun umbrellas then a mish-mash of other loungers, most without any shade at all or a rather flimsy sail type affair. The lack of shade and the variance in lounger quality meant that for the first time in the Caribbean (and we've been a few times) we encountered the early morning 'towels on loungers' situation - at the start of our holiday there was one gentleman who routinely got up at 5.30am and was gathering towels the night before and bagging all the loungers before the sun was fully up! This could be solved by better loungers and more shades - not hard! We managed to get one of these loungers (at a normal time) one morning but the umbrella had ripped in the wind and wasn't effective. After holding it together with towel pegs for a while I asked at reception if there was a replacement - and one arrived! Tick for customer service, cross for lack of staff noticing it themselves and for having spare umbrellas but not putting them out! Over the 9 days three brollies bit the dust so they need to think carefully about replacing them with a) enough and b) quality! In the heat of the Caribbean with a ginger husband the availability of shade is absolutely key and this WOULD be a deal breaker for us going back. Let's hope it's addressed in the refurb! Overall, we said that everything was 'about 90%' - lots of little improvements needed but it wouldn't take much for this to be the perfect resort, and with it's location it's perfect if the details can be sorted. But for what we wanted, it mostly delivered and the lack of 5 stars is down to the shade and lounger issue. We'll be curious to see the improvements later this year.…
