Having left the hotel we booked to stay in for our 10 day holiday (Carlisle Bay) we arrived at Hodges and from the moment we stepped into reception everything changed for us. The welcome was outstanding, the property is stunning, the staff are warm, friendly and accommodating especially the amazing bar staff lead by the never to be forgotten Trevette - a jewel in the hodges crown. We had an amazing time here and have recommended it to everyone since coming home - believe me we are fussy about the hotels we stay in. Where the negative reviews come from I really don't know. Do not let them put you off, some of them seem to come from people who clearly haven't stayed at this hotel. Just go, you won't be disappointed!
We made a reservation with Hodges Bay for the end of May that was confirmed by email from their Reservations department over 2 weeks ago. Today we received an email with subject line “Unable to Accommodate,” stating that “there appears to have been an error” and telling us our reservation has been cancelled. Now my family is without a place to stay at the end of our Antigua visit. Such utter lack of customer service is inexcusable. But hey, at least they assured us we wouldn’t have to pay a cancellation fee/penalty!! Seriously?!!!
This was a great place to stay. The location was perfect. Close to the airport and really easy to drive around the island. The staff were really friendly, and accomodating. They came to check on us when we were playing tennis and offered us drinks. If you like tennis, the courts are great way to start the day. Chilling by the bar in the heated infinity pool at night was the best, and it gets a really cool breeze passing through which is welcomed when it gets really hot. Already planning my trip to come back!
The services at Hodges Bay resort is nothing short of outstanding. Whenever we needed anything there were multiple people available to help us out. The adult pool is beautiful and peaceful. Our balcony is huge. Room for two loungers just on one side. Thanks for taking such good care of us.
We planned an overdue six person three generation family holiday in Antigua. While we know the island well we had never visited Hodges Bay. In advance we contacted the resort and arranged for a scouting trip. We were greeted by Chantelle R who had arranged for an expansive tour. Although not a very large resort there are many accommodation options and we were able to choose an ideal configuration. Once we all arrived everything went according to plan. All three generations found the facilities, staff and service to be first rate. Everything is scrupulously maintained including the rooms, pools, beach and restaurants. A unique feature is their proximity to Prickly Pear Island which affords an authentic tropical island experience. We shall return.
My husband and I dashed away for a quick 5 day trip. The hotel is literally 6 minutes from the airport so that was a pleasure. That being said we did not have planes flying over the property during the day. The hotel is absolutely stunning with a number of amazing places to spend the day for variety. There is an adult pool and a family pool but there were not many children so the families seemed welcome at both locations. There is a small beach with lounge chairs. The most special offering was a private island that you could visit with just 10 minutes notices which is truly something special. There you can lay on luxurious couches near the bar which serves both food and drinks. Otherwise you can sit on beach beds that were located directly on the sand. I would recommend that you make a reservation because these locations can fill up but we didn't have any difficulty during our stay. The island also lends snorkeling gear and has a number of paddle boards and kayaks. The staff is exceptionally lovely and the hotel will be a super hot location in just a short while...at this time it is still new and the staff is still getting their sea legs. The hotel is new and so is the staff so the staff is not exactly up to speed on how things get accomplished both on the grounds and particularly off the hotel property. The management seemed very interested in righting anything that may have not been ideal. They hotel does not yet have a sundry shop for items you may have forgotten, a coffee or snack shop and at this time I don't believe you can get services at the spa yet. The only last issue regarding staying at the hotel was its location. On the northern part of the island the beaches were not as calm as other parts of the island. If you are looking for excursions outside the hotel they are basically anywhere from 30-60 minutes from the hotel as these seem to be grouped on the western and southern side of the island. We rented a car which had us driving on the other side of the road from which we are accustomed but the greatest danger was the size of the roads which are particularly narrow. If you need to pass through St. John to get to an attraction or excursion you will enjoy extremely narrow roads accompanied by sharp drops on the side of the road which I presume are there for water drainage. All in all we had a wonderful trip and I suspect we will return as the hotel will only get better and better in the months and years to come. Certainly a very special location if you have your sites set on visiting Antigua.…
From when we first arrived, we were treated as valued guests and the hotel guest experience was second to none. From the reception staff, to the beach, bar and garden staff everyone was so friendly and smiley. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, with striking modern artwork, beautiful leafy/flowery vistas and of course, the stunning view onto a white sandy beach, turquoise sea and the happy spaceman at the end of the pier. There’s even a stunning private island a 2 minute boat ride away, where you can order cocktails, graze and snorkel - it is paradise. The ocean suite we stayed in was clean, striking and refreshed by our friendly housekeeper every day. Our one gripe? The food. Just as well it wasn’t all inclusive as we were happy to dine elsewhere in the evenings. The bar/main restaurant menu never varied and the food was very average. One night we booked their ‘celebrity chef’ restaurant Salt and despite booking for 7.45pm we had to wait an hour for our table, then 1 hour for our starter which was not great, and another hour for our main which was terrible. By 11pm we were defeated and regretting our booking as well as floored by the horrendous cost of one of the worst meals we’ve ever had. We found out the next day while chatting with fellow guests in the bar/hot tub that most of the people who had been there had a very similar experience and felt totally ripped off. My advice- give Salt a miss until they manage to sort it out. The Maitre D was amazing, but he was fighting a losing battle with the kitchen and we felt really sorry for all the flack he was getting from other guests. If Hodges Bay cracks the food conundrum (including very slow food service in the main restaurant White Sands) then they will have successfully rounded out the 5 star experience and I think it would be hard to find a better place to stay. Oh - a few practical tips for the hotel management - we lacked chests of drawers and were staying 2 weeks, so aside from the wardrobe we had to put clothes in random bedside and bathroom draws. And a hand towel rail by the bathroom sinks would be useful too.…
We loved so many things about Hodges! The layout of the resort was perfect, the suite decor was amazing - and a walkout right to the beach! 2 beautiful pools, fantastic staff and a private island that the hotel shuttles you to, to visit for the day! Loved our Butlers - Johnathan, Craig & Marqui. The Crew at Prickley Pear- Dave , Cereste, Wilsha,& Trivete, Jean-Marie- the concierge, and of course TANGO!! Loved every 10am workout staring at the aqua blue Sea 🏝🏝
We had the most wonderful week at Hodges Bay. The food was some of the best on the island and the beach was beautiful. It was extremely luxurious and relaxing. Would highly recommend if you want something special :)
If you want a an exclusive high end 5 star luxury resort i would recommend staying here !!! Not only has it a private beach, An infinity pool with a all day bar where you can have lunch or just drink rum punched whilst looking out to the jetty where the impressive 4 meter tall space man points to the sky. Or go kayaking paddle boarding or venture over to the tiny island (Prickly Pear) which has just been luxuriously redesigned, now providing amenities and facilities for a full on party or bbq or whatever’s you want I’d expect. The food has always been amazing, excellent breakfast, awesome lunch and the signature chief Me Edward Lee has produced a comparable menu to any high end restaurant you could find on the island, it’s speaks for itself - salt is its name. And for me I did like the fact that I could order a pepperoni pizza at 2 am after dancing my soaks off at the Black sail roof bar located above the restaurant. The staff for me thou add the greatest value not to mention the owners who seem to be very down to earth and have taken this place to another level, there ideas and standard each year make new adventures and areas to explore and enjoy. They really have made this place amazingly beautiful it’s calm and exclusive- and yet if you want a night out it’s all within the grounds. If you can get one of the ocean view rooms and wake up to the sound of the sea each morning - highly recommended by me…
