The Wye Valley Hotel is a small family-run country hotel, bar and restaurant in the riverside village of Tintern; and is at the heart of the Wye Valley, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Upstairs are eight comfortable newly decorated en-suite rooms (including a family suite) while downstairs you'll find a cosy public bar with open fires, a sunny south-facing patio, and a large dining room with reading snugs. There is free parking and WiFi for customers whilst on site. Children, walkers, cyclists and dogs are welcome. As well as a fine range of beers, wines and spirits, we offer meals that are freshly prepared and full of flavour, often featuring local produce and ingredients. Our guests love our generous breakfasts and The Independent (Travel) reviewed our fish and chips as ‘being one of the best fish and chips I have ever had’. We are CAMRA accredited and proud to have received consecutive TripAdvisor Awards for Excellence, as well as 5 star hygiene ratings. Your hosts, Barry, Sue and Grace, are on-site and look forward to making your stay as relaxing and enjoyable as it can possibly be.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My overall experience of the Wye Valley Hotel would be categorised as exceptional! All staff were very friendly and accommodating to individual needs. The room was well presented and spotless. The food was of a very high standard and included a good variety (highly recommend their fish and chips). Breakfast was also delicious, using locally sourced produce and ensuring you were never left wanting. The hotel's bar had a good selection of drinks and it was nice to see it was well supported by the local community. A great hotel in a beautiful setting with fantastic staff.

Four of us had a really good pub supper here. Two ham, egg and chips and two fish and chips. The food was just what you want from good, proper pub food. Freshly home cooked ham, absolutely superb. Free range deep yellow yolk eggs. Good home cut chips. Fish and chips excellent. Home made Bakewell tart was totally delicious, crisp pastry and moist tasty filling. Well kept beers and a good wine list, all with really friendly service in a really traditional pub setting . We loved it and hope to return one day.

We enjoyed our overnight stay. The room was a good size, the beds were comfy and the bathroom was huge! The yogurt and fruit were welcome at breakfast. The only downside was the stairs. If you have mobility problems you would struggle with the steepness to reach the first floor.

This is a small hotel in a beautiful area. The rooms vary in size, shape and facilities. We had two rooms: one had a bath; the other had a shower. The lack of water pressure meant that the shower was a bit disappointing. But the rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff of the hotel were friendly and welcoming. Food was good, particularly breakfast which was freshly made to order. There is plenty of parking and good Wi-Fi throughout the hotel.

A stay of six days made perfect by fabulous owners and staff who made us most welcome. A high standard of bedroom with comfortable king sized bed. Plenty of space. Spotless room. Good supplies of coffee and tea and biscuits. Bath with shower over was just right. Breakfast in the mornings was made to order and was as plentiful as you wanted. Heartily recommended venue and ideal base to explore the area.

A hotel, its bar and restaurant, when getting the thumbs up or down, are heavily reliant on the attitude of the owners and their staff. If the food is excellent but the staff comes across as miserable or providing poor service, you wouldn't go back there. I'm pleased to say that on both counts - quality of food, and standard of service at The Wye Valley Hotel it's thumbs up. The food is largely cooked by the owner wife. Every course was top drawer. Service was efficient, spiced with a dash of humour lightening the whole occasion. Prices were acceptable. I don't know when, but we'll be back.

We just completed a two-night stay here and enjoyed every moment. Our hosts were attentive, friendly, helpful, and delightful. The rooms were well-appointed and charming. Our twin room had steps going down to it. You might want to have a night light. We ate in the pub/restaurant both evenings and opted for the full breakfasts. Everything we ate was delicious. The surroundings are beautiful with a tow path along the river. I highly recommend this place.
