The restaurant had yet to open as we arrived just prior to season opening yet we were welcomed in to take a seat. Being the only customers and the first for the year, the server went out of her way to make us comfortable and provided us a warm Kjötsúpa, Icelandic meat soup with home made Rúgbrauð. Rúgbrauð is an...

Confortable and well located hotel in Thingeyri. The hotel offers cleaned and equiped room. The place is quiet. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good place to stay if you are travelling in the Westfjords. The restaurant in the hotel is very good too.

As one of the guidebooks said, it bills itself as a hotel but is more of a guesthouse. Not really sure what that means exactly, but they do manage to be a hotel without feeling like a hotel (all the way down to the room not being serviced - that was a minus). Great position, nice views over the harbour...

Had an absolutely wonderful stay at Hotel Sandafell for a weekend away. The hotel is very well located for those wanting to stay at a hotel but still manage to explore most of the highlights of the Westfjords of Iceland. The staff was extremely kind and helpful and the food was delicious. The rooms were tidy and the bed and...

I was staying just outside of Thingeyri and went to Hotel Sandafell for dinner one night. I had the fish stew which came with the most sublime home made rye bread and smoked salmon. I also had a lovely slice of rhubarb cake for dessert. All of the main ingredients were sourced locally and the chef came out and talked...

We had an absolutely lovely one night stay here. We were the only people in the hotel and the two ladies running it made us a fabulous, traditional homemade dinner and breakfast. Definitely recommend staying here if you are going to the westfjords!

A gem of a hotel. The staff are so friendly and can't do enough to please. The food is traditionally Icelandic and homemade....absolutely gorgeous! A great place to stay and very pretty surroundings. I would recommend this hotel for couples and families

We stopped here after viewing the waterfall and happened upon the hotel. The restaurant was completely empty, but the very kind staff seated us anyway. We had what she called "fish stew." It was divine--flaked fresh fish mashed with potatoes, onions and much butter. Served with smoked lamb on house-made pumpernickel. Delicious!

We stayed here for some time during our West fjords trip. It was just as I wish every holiday was: no or very few other tourists, good, clean and comfortable hotel, Icelandic breakfast with locals joining in, and a great host who also happened to be captain of the rebuilt local Viking ship. He even invited us on a trip...
