This place is really lovely. Gorgeous view, beautiful pool, clean and well -equipped units.
Love the outdoor kitchen. Quiet and peaceful. A good location for exploring BasseTerre with a car (which you will definitely need of your stay here). There is a supermarket and veggie/fruit stand 2km away and it is easy to self-cater. Wifi worked well.

Our only negative is we didn’t find staff welcoming and communication responses via email took quite a while. The owner/manager also informed us we didn’t need to book a taxi at the airport when we returned our rental car (no shuttles priced:-( as there would be taxis lined up. This was not true at all and we made our ferry with three minutes to spare which was very stressful. I sent an email indicating this (to help future guests) but did not even get a response.

Also, be aware that if you are driving here after dark, the road is really winding, narrow and curving and it will take you longer than expected. We had the added challenging of pouring rain so found the drive a little harrowing.

The propriator and his employees were nice. The swimming pool was nice and the view over the sea wonderful. There was a lot of choice for breakfast. We could even order the dinner to be served to the room's terrace. It tasted well. Room had a kitchenette, very useful as, in November, all restaurants in the neighbourhood were closed in the evening.

great position above the malendure bay - we stayed in a truly remarkable villa for the price we paid - nice breakfast, more than decent dinner if you want to order - pool, etc are ok but not outstanding

The Daughter, The Teenager and I were in a bit of a jam as our previous hosts at the gîte in Deshaies had only been able to accommodate us for three nights and we needed four as our flight back to Paris left in the evening of the fifth day. I spent half a night doing research on the net looking at scores of places from Saint Rose in the north of Basse Terre to Vieux Habitants in the south but all I could find were other gîtes which required at least a four night stay or expensive (for us) hotels which really didn't merit the outlay for a one night stay.
Finally I found Le Jardin Tropical and much to my relief they accepted our reservation for one night with no up front money required. This was a month before we arrived.
I wrote to them in English and they replied in French but as my "hotel French" is excellent there was no language problem.
We found the turn off up the hill near La Poste in Boulliante and climbed and climbed and climbed finally turning in to their driveway. It turns out that there was a new owner from the first of the year and he had changed their policy to accept short stays.
The accommodations were, however, set up in typical "gîte" style. There were two sets of three residences each on two levels consisting of two adjoining gîte-type residences which comprised a large room air conditioned room with a big double bed, a separate room with bunk beds, separate toilet and a separate, large bathroom with the all important element - a powerful shower. On the outdoor patio there was a refrigerator and stove together with chair and tables. Pigeon Island, the location of the Cousteau Reserve was framed in the distance between the palm trees in the garden right outside the patio. We were on the top level with a really magnificent view.
There was a large swimming pool with child lock. As it is now a hotel breakfast is served but we preferred to buy fresh fruit at the market and baguette at the bakery and make breakfast ourselves. The gardens are lovely and well kept. The personnel were friendly and attentive but I'm not sure if they speak English.
I don't know if the restaurant serves dinner but there is a pizza joint at the bottom of the hill and a restaurant - Le Ranch - a further two minute drive north.
We paid €72 for the night - our cheapest accommodation during our two week stay in Guadeloupe - true value for money.

Lovely hotel with private bungalows amid lush tropical gardens. We arrived on Guadeloupe just days after Montserrat blew it's top and spewed ash all over the neighbouring Caribbean islands. The pool bottom was covered in ash but within a couple of days was sparkling again. The hosts are fabulous! We encountered medical problems necessitating my husband taking an ambulance ride to Bass-Terre hospital and he drove me to the hospital since I could not go with my husband in the ambulance. If you need anything, just ask :)
The bungalow had a double bed as well as a separate bedroom with 2 bunk beds for those traveling with kids. It was clean although the small bar fridge is a little antiquated and should be replaced soon.
The pool is great but the lounge chairs need replacing.
There is a games room with television, pool table and ping pong table. Lots of tables for games playing.
The wireless internet signal barely reached our bungalow which was on the highest hill but appears to be very strong everywhere else. We took the laptop down to the games room when we needed the signal to be reliably strong .
This is definitely a place we will return to :)

I would recommend Le Jardin Tropical for people (couples and family alike) who want to spend time relaxing by looking at the sea, eating and cooking outdoors in all simplicity!

Every bungalow is spacious and has a sea view and a really well equipped outdoors kitchen where you can either prepare food yourself or get it “delivered” by the excellent service traiteur that is on offer at the reception : honest local dishes rightly priced.

The good size swimming pool is a bonus and never too busy when we were there. You can have a barbecue by its side if you wish.

Staff were helpful though in no way overbearing.

Overall a relaxing place where to stay in Bouillante (Pigeon). You will need a car, like in the rest of Guadeloupe.

We were only there for one night. No one was there to show us around, and restaurants were closed when we arrived. we were so hungry. Make sure you know where to go because it can be confusing for taxi drivers at night.
Very nice place, and clean rooms. It would have been more pleasant to have someone tell us how to order food at night, or have a phone to use to order.
But a very nice place.

We stayed here a few days will doing multiple dives in the area. The bungalows were nice and clean, and the view on the ocean is unbeatable. The owner was in France at the time, but the lady who worked there spoke good English and was very helpfull. We liked especially the central location. Besides diving, we were close to route la traversee for hiking and also the volcano was not so far away. We would definitely stay here again!

My partner and I booked into Le Jardin Tropical for two weeks in May/June 2017 as a base to explore Basse Terre on our honeymoon. We technically stayed at the beginning of the low-season, and there were few other guests at the property, though I'm told it can get very busy in high season.

First of all, there's lots of good things to say about the property. The bungalow we rented was lovely; it was mostly really nicely furnished, had a lovely bathroom and excellent A/C. The outdoor kitchen was a real highlight. The gardens were kept very well tended and the views out to Ilet Pigeon and the sea might be some of the best on the island.

So why the three star review? It was mostly the staff and service we received. We were grateful to be received late to our accommodation when we arrived around 9pm from the airport. However nothing was explained to us in terms of how things worked, which would have helped avoid problems later.

We were shocked, after an early start one day which meant we missed breakfast at the complex and neglected to tell the staff, to be told that "that's it, you can't eat breakfast here any more" ! (She did eventually backtrack on that statement). We were disappointed still with the breakfast itself, which I didn't think was deserving of its' 8 euro/day pp price tag, and that we probably would have got our own breakfast in had we known it was a supplementary cost (not explained to us). We were further disappointed that, over a weekend, there was no fresh fruit as part of breakfast, seemingly because the staff had not bothered to go to the shops. No big deal surely? Well it kind of was to us, because as vegans there was only that, cereal and toast on offer. In knowing we were vegans, and it was our honeymoon, the management declined in a pre-trip email to get anything in for us, like non-dairy milk. But still put out milk every day, even when we were the only guests. Which I guess didn't make me feel all that valued.

Other small things which we weren't happy with - having to ask for fresh linen/towels/soap etc and those things not materialising, or having run out. The bar never being open aside from the first few days. That kind of thing.

All small things in isolation that probably wouldn't have bothered me that much, had I not got the general feeling that since we were the only guests for much of the stay, the staff had decided to just treat it as a bit of a holiday.

I STILL probably would have given a four star rating had the reply from the management, when I presented this opinion, not essentially been:

"we're sorry that you did not enjoy your stay, but for the price you paid you received an excellent breakfast and essentially the service of a four star hotel, and why would you say these things when you told us you might come back in the future" (maybe our English over-politeness to blame).

I've never had to make my own bed or argue about eating breakfast at a four star hotel, but whatever. Maybe this place is much better-run in high season, but I'd advise staying elsewhere in low season.

Sweet place, high on a hill overlooking the Ilets Pigeon, surrounded by mature tropical trees and plants. Very quiet and peaceful. Beautiful sunsets. Don't expect much interaction or advice from the management but do take advantage of the delicious and reasonably priced meals prepared by Ruby and delivered to your bungalow. We enjoyed meeting other guests at the spacious lounge and pool area during breakfast. The breakfast itself wasn't much of a bargain. If you don't want to mingle with others, there is a nearby Carrefour where you can buy whatever you need and prepare it in your own small kitchen. The place was very quiet during the rest of the day as everyone was out doing their own activities.
