We had a great time at Skyland for Thanksgiving. We got a premium room which had an amazing view, and was totally dog friendly. Very clean, comfortable, and modern. The sunsets were incredible and there was easy access to multiple hikes. The hotel is spread out so we generally drove to dinner. It was a quick drive and we enjoyed the dining hall. Thanksgiving dinner books early, but luckily we were able to walk in without a reservation. The only downside was no wifi in the rooms, but I have heard they are working to revamp their Wi-Fi in 2023.

The pillows in the little apartment are so soft. The view is THE BEST. There are lots of hiking trails. The bad thing is that it is small area in your little apartment. But the rest is good. The Restaurant is the best with a gift shop. So much fresh air!

Be careful before you book. This is NOT a resort as they say. A resort is a 5 star establishment. For those that are used to 'camping', this might be a place for you to stay. We are used to camping and geez, the place is below camping standards. A KOA would have been better. The floors had sticky stains, windows were dirty and LOTS of cobwebs. One of the windows we didn't even bother opening up the wooden blinds due to the dirt and just utter grossness. Cobwebs in corners of the room, MOLD in the bathroom and the tub faucet sprayed water everywhere when we started to run it for our showers. PLYWOOD for a bathroom ceiling? Who does that? Dirt in every corner of the bathroom. At least it seemed like the sheets were clean so we could lay our heads down at night. Ceiling fan looked as if it hasn't been dusted since it was put up. Dining room food? It was breakfast in our bellies before we headed out to the trails. Dinner? We ate in the bar area, I wouldn't call it a tap room, which was so poorly lit, you could hardly see. It took 20 minutes before the bartender came to us with a menu. At least that meal was decent. My suggestion for the Hummus platter: instead of Sumac, Oregano is sprinkled (at least us Greeks do) and some olive oil is drizzled over it as well. I had the tomato soup which was good as were the wings. If we had to do it all over again, we would look for a different place to stay.

Hi Juli, Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your stay at Skyland. I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed the tomato soup and the chicken wings, but displeased to hear that you experienced issues with housekeeping and maintenance that went unresolved before your departure. I hold my team to high standards of cleanliness and service, and it sounds like we fell well short of the service quality that is expected at Skyland. I assure you I will work with my maintenance and housekeeping teams to ensure that you and other guests do not encounter such conditions in the future. As for your time in the Mountain Taproom, thank you for your suggested adjustments to the Hummus Platter! We will definitely keep your recommendations in mind when writing our menus for 2023. I'm sorry to hear you experienced slow service while you were there. I will work with my bar staff to make sure each guest is served in a timely manner. You may be happy to hear that the Taproom is slated to get a much needed renovation while we're closed for the winter, and that improved lighting is our top priority. I appreciate your thorough feedback, as I can only address the issues that are brought to my attention. Please contact me at your convenience so we can discuss ways to make things right. I am most easily reached at the email address or phone number listed below. I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you, Nathan Shaner General Manager, Skyland nshaner@delawarenorth.com (540) 333-3280

I had a distant memory of the Skyland Resort from when I went as a teen with my family many years ago, and was very much looking to seeing it again. As reviews for Skyland were mixed, I did not know what to expect. I was very pleasantly surprised. We booked a premium room which was fine, but offered no view. We noticed another building with a wonderful view and nicer rooms, and were able to easily upgrade, as the gentleman at the desk was so accommodating. It is a beautiful and restful place to be, but being there for only one night, we could not experience the hikes on the mountain. They have a cute gift shop and a very nice dining room for meals. I believe they have music, perhaps on the weekends. The food in the dining room could be better, but the service is great (a young man who serves at breakfast is especially good) and the views are wonderful. I really liked the woodsy decor in the dining room. It is a very special place, just be sure to really research the rooms ahead of time so you get the view and level of renovation that you want.

It is a great location but sadly the place is in need of improvement. Many of the buildings look shabby. the lounge is dismal the tap room awful. Check in was slow and not helpful. Breakfasts are ok but dinner was a let-down. Waits of over an hour for a table is unacceptable. They simply have not enough capacity. When my main course arrived it was cold and the beans barely cooked. I struggled to get staff to take it back and try again. I have stayed in North American lodges beofre and sadly this was not a good one

After hiking all day we (2 adults and 4 kids) were hungry and looking forward to a hearty meal before heading to our room for the night. We were told the wait for a table was 45 minutes. After waiting multiple hours there was still no hope for getting called anytime soon. It was already past our youngest child's bedtime and no other options (besides a candy bar from the gift shop) were available. We ended up leaving the park just to get food and decided to forgo our stay. It was a terrible waste of money and time. Skyland must start to offer self serve, grab and go, or cafeteria options to serve the hundreds of people waiting just to eat. The place has beautiful views and so much potential, it's just terribly mismanaged at the expense of your dollar and your hunger.

Rm#9. Skyland is a special place that captures the Park’s spirit. The lodge offers a variety of housing spread out over a few acres. Convenience wise we stay in #9, one of 6 units on the second floor with picture window overlooking the Valley. Rm had two queen size beds, adequate closet space and small breakfast table. Two, slightly aged metal chairs outside room provide peaceful moments of tranquil early morning and sunset views of valley. You’re steps away from checkin and dinning rm. Minimum wait to get seated but we were there during weekday, off season. Noticed that on Friday things got more crowded. Two EV charges on premise; one Tesla, the other regular EV.

We stayed for one night to visit Shenandoah Park and Skyland hotel was decent. First, the Skyland hotel is located inside the park with a beautiful view and serving food that was above average. The only issue is the cleanness of the room was below average . The sheet on the second queen bed was dirty (blood or red color on it). overall I don't think you will find a better place to stay if you want to visit Shenandoah .

I want to preface my review with saying I am very used to no-frills, overpriced national park lodging. I get you are paying for the location. I've stayed at a tiny cabin near Old Faithful that had only a double bed and a bathroom you could barely turn around in, a cabin in Bryce that was dusty and had mice, etc. So I went into this knowing it would be very basic but had an amazing location and I was willing to pay for that location. My disappointment comes from the fact that the room we had (a preferred room with two queens) looked nothing like the picture of said room category posted on the Skyland website. Additionally, rooms that had worse views than we had so were likely lower than our category of room or at least the same were nicer on the inside (we know this because we would walk around the complex in the evening and sometimes people had their blinds wide open so you could see in from the road). Our room was so old, it appears to have not been updated since the 50s. Yet I don't believe we paid any less for it than people with nicer updated rooms - the ones posted on the website. I strongly feel ALL rooms should be updated and these old, run-down rooms should not be getting rented out OR getting rented at a discounted price. The positives of staying here are #1, the amazing views mainly from the main building (often views in the rooms are obstructed by trees), everyone I encountered was friendly, and the food in the dining hall was good. It's also about halfway through the park so convenient to many popular hikes. For those staying here or considering staying here - know the rooms with TVs get about 11 channels that come in (if TV watching is important to you). We could not get on the WiFi from our room but we were able to make calls and text (we have Verizon). Your room may be quite far from dining; we chose to drove to the dining hall at night. Would I stay here again? Only if I was guaranteed an updated room.

We stayed two nights in the Dogwood cabin with our dog. The cabin is a duplex with a private entrance and small balcony, plus parking next to the cabin. The room has one double bed, one lamp on the nightstand, a sink in the corner, a closet, a coffee maker, refrigerator, and overhead lighting. The bathroom has a window, a toilet, and a narrow shower with good water pressure. The room is 14x14, clean, and comfortable. We appreciated the heater, as the temperatures were in the thirties and forties. Our screen door was broken with exposed wires and nails and it was difficult to use. It's a tight squeeze in the cabin and it would be nice if there was a way for two people to sit at a table to play a game or eat a meal. Hooks on the walls would also help, as the closet door opens into the room making it hard to use. Skyland graciously welcomes dogs, for an additional $75 fee, but their restaurant did not easily accomodate our need to do takeout. I felt like I was an imposition, cast aside and forgotten. The price was expensive for the cabin, but we enjoyed staying inside the park, and appreciated the lobby's coffee bar and gift shop. We got the cinnamon rolls each morning. Overall, we are happy overall with our stay and will probably do it again. Hopefully. 😊
