The location of this lodge right on the rim is privileged. The old lodge building still has great bones, and with a little (well a lot) of restoration could be splendid again, but in its current situation is sadly run down. The staff are all very pleasant but seem woefully untrained and unprofessional and seem to be managing as best... More

If you are looking for 5-star accommodations this is not your place. But if you want to find a peaceful spot and get in some R & R, Big Meadows could be your place. We have made occasional trips to Big Meadows for 40 years and it is always good to go back. This trip was marred by a bad... More

Basic but comfortable accommodation for an overnight stay in the Shenandoah National Park. The Lodge provides a choice of options for eating, either very casual in the cosy bar, or in the larger dining room. A very good packed lunch is available for a day's excursion or an onward journey. Our room was large and perfectly OK for a night.... More

Room was dim and very cold at the start of the evening (around 50 degrees). By midnight it was over 85 degrees in our room--couldn't sleep in the heat. Walls were very very thin--could hear endless coughing next door all night. I'm not picky, but this place is WAY overpriced.

Thank you for your review, we truly appreciate your feedback. We apologize for the poorly heated room. We are looking at new lighting to help brighten up the rooms. It may take a season or two, but we will work on all the issues until they get fixed. I hope you will give us another opportunity to show our improvements.... More

We love this lodge. Quiet, nice getaway. Book far in advance. Great for families, couples, and young and old alike. We always book pet friendly room and bring our pup who is quiet and an easy traveler. He enjoys hiking and getting outdoors with us and then holds down the fort when we go to dinner or drinks at the... More

If you want to let all your stress to disappear this is the place to go. As soon as we enter the park it feels soooo good. Although the accommodations are not upscale, they are definitely sufficient. Where we stay-no TV, no email, no phone calls, no one to bother me-awesome!

Have always loved this place and can't wait to see it again in the future. Same as it ever was but that's a good thing. The rooms are charmingly rustic and the food is great in the main dining hall and the views are spectacular!

Being in a National Park is always a good thing. Met my daughter and son-in-law from Washington DC since it was a convenient location for them. The rooms were very big and it was very nice to be able to have 2 bedrooms with a Jack and Jill bathroom. The furnishings are dated and could use some upgrading. Our bedspread... More

We went on this trip for fall colors and beautiful scenery but were met by Tropical Storm Joaquin, rain and dense fog! Unfortunate, but the setting at Big Meadows was still wonderful. Will try again and hope for better weather! The Dining Room food was delicious!! Warning, we found the pillows and mattress in our cabin to be very uncomfortable.... More

I must say that the folks working at the lodge are the best---hands down! We received great service and felt very welcomed! The main building is rustic, charming and in great shape considering it is an older building. We stayed in a preferred room. It was clean and had a TV with limited viewing. The decor needs to be updated.... More
