Overpriced. It was very warm and because it's an old building there is no air conditioning in room and not possible to entirely switch off the heater. Wifi was extremely slow and worked only for e-mail - like it was there just to check off a box but not really working (hence 'No' for the wifi question). The lobby was very dusty and smelled strange. The shop and check-in area was too crowded.
Great place to stay and very central. Sure there might be imperfections here and there in the lodge but you're staying in the middle of a park! It's too beautiful to complain about the water taking a little time to warm up. And if that upsets you, have a beer! They sell them downstairs in the market. The staff is super helpful and pleasant and parking is easy.
I had asked for two queen beds, and we really scored with Room #12 which is actually equipped for handicapped guests. It's right off the lobby and quite roomy. Despite covid restrictions, they still served up a hot breakfast which we enjoyed just off the room on their patio area. Be aware they are doing construction on the roads inside the park, so expect delays. This is NOT a factor on the weekends, but is happening during the week. Definitely delayed our start times on hiking, but in all fairness, we could have left early and avoided all of it. You would need to be on the road before 0700--we were just lazy. The little market has everything you could possibly need (ice, snacks, camping gear, etc) a little bit of everything. Staff is young and friendly. We did find an old pair of shoes left under one of our beds, which did make us wonder how thoroughly they cleaned and looked under beds...but all in all, it didn't freak us out too much.…
The people at the front desk are very kind and helpful. They have great knowledge of the area and provided excellent recommendations and tips. They also went out of their way to get us food since we arrived after the restaurant was closed. Also property is well located within the park.
Stony Creek Lodge was the perfect home base to explore Sequoia National Park. 30 minutes in either direction from the lodge are the main sites including General Sherman and General Grant Trees, plus Morro Rock trail. We had our baby with us and the room was comfortable. We also enjoyed the breakfast each morning and having access to the market. The staff was warm and friendly, giving us great recommendations and even sending back our son's favorite pillow that we left in the room. We enjoyed the lodge and will definitely be recommending to our friends!
