Sage Creek is a really cool place to camp. It's free, which is awesome. Very minimalistic as expected, but if you're lucky you'll get a shelter with a bench- this helps when it's hot out, as there is little shade elsewhere. You'll see lots of bison around, walking through the campsite; prairie dogs, coyotes howling at night time! Tip: Take... More

Quiet sage brush meadow with no facilities except pit toilets - bring your own water - it fills up but you can camp without a picnic table anywhere in the area. Beautiful sky. It is a gravel road coming in but it's fairly well graded and our Prius made it with no problems, except for the 100 or so bison... More

On our national parks vacation last month, my wife and I pitched our tent here for one night. We arrived at noon and grabbed a good spot with a shaded picnic table, and there seemed to be a few that were camping for over a week, but most folks were 1-2 nights and then moving on. The campground is a... More

The campground is no doubt, wonderful but the sage creek road leading you there is horrendous for an RV. It's a very badly kept gravel road which is not signed as such and could cause major damage to any RV.. Not to be attempted! Better to go down to the Ceder creek which is just off the 270. Poorly signed... More

We absolutely loved this campground and the badlands National park! Facilities are great and are very close to every site. The park rangers and volunteers that run the campfire program and stargazing program do a wonderful job. The scenery at night is truly something that I think everyone should see in their lifetime. Definitely stay the night in the park,... More

Come for a great experience out in the boonies. Visited on a July weekend and the parking area was relatively full by the time I arrived at 9:30. There was still lots of space to pitch a tent. As some other people have mentioned, just be courteous to your fellow campers. I, like others have mentioned here, experienced some heavy... More

If you want to get away from civilization, this is it. Our first visit to Sage Creek in 2004 was so incredible it has stuck with me as one of the better national park experiences I've had so when we were looking for places to stay on our recent trip (this time with 2 kids, 8 and 10). It's not... More

This campground was not what we were expecting when they said "no services" online. We brought shovels and hand sanitizer with us planning on digging a latrine. But we were incredibly excited to see that they had a bathroom on site! Not one that flushes, but hey - it's a heck of a lot better than bare-bottoming it. It was... More

I chose this campsite, because I have no problem roughing it...it was free and I wanted to camp out where the buffalo roam. I may have chose the wrong time of year to do this. The website said that the campsite rarely fills up, but I found this not to be the case. I was there early enough to get... More

We visited in May 2016. Six adult male buffalo wandered through the campsite during the afternoon and evening, grazing. What an incredible experience! At times, they approached to within 5' of us. I'll never forget that evening in the Badlands. We drove our class C motorhome up about 10 miles of dirt road to get to the campground. Well worth... More
