Quirky and stylish and full of charm .
Staff were very helpful and attentive ,
Very clean and Covid compliant .
Vegas room was fantastic and attention to detail and luxury Was no expense spared by the venue.
Even have complimentary clarin products and other products available to use at no extra expense .
Complementary champagne was a great token to drink whilst enjoying the rooms luxurious space And jacuzzi area whilst getting ready to make a short walk to the main restaurant in the converted 16th century pub which was cozy and welcoming .
The restaurant did great food and the cheateubriand was beautifully prepared and for the price was great value for the quality .
Desserts were wonderful and tasty and recommend the vanilla cheese cake .
Here they provided a lost Personel service which I’ve had no where else and even received 2 complimentary cocktails for our inconvenience because myself and GF couldn’t work the heating in the room at no fault of the venue .
That’s how much they cared that we were satisfied tenants for the night .
Will be booking again ASAP hopefully the Ace of spades or collessium room as they look great too .

Our room was lovely, it was a real treat to have an outdoor and indoor hot tub however, I feel that for the price they charge for a night, the cleaning could have been better and our room smelt of damp/wet dog which isn't pleasant, especially during the current circumstances.
The lighting system was confusing and no instructions so ended sleeping with some of the lights on.
The food in the restaurant was lovely, I had the nicest steaks I've had in a while and breakfast, which was included, was lovely and unlimited drinks.
I would stay here again as it'sa lovely experience and change of scenery, but might take my own cleaning stuff and febreeze next time 😉
Now let's talk about the bathroom! This was also one of the reasons I booked this hotel for the private hot tub in our room which is massive. The water came out nice and hot which was a dream that you can easily cool down to whatever temperature you prefer. The bubbles in the hot tub were full force fierce, just the way a hot tub should be and felt like you'd had a full body massage after getting out of it. Defo a bonus.
We had dinner and breakfast in the hotels restaurant which was really nice and intimate. Seating was very comfortable and the food was delicious. You can view the menu online so you know what to expect with prices but I felt the menu was very reasonably priced. Breakfast was included giving us a few different options of what we would like. The full English breakfast is a really good size and will definitely fill you up.
The staff here were extremely friendly and kind. All the staff we met were very welcoming. I wish I asked their names as I would give them a big shout out on here.
All the rooms here are different and after our lovely night away here, we will most definitely be back to stay in a different room which we look forward to very much.
Thank you Who'd a thought it - Great stay (Pam)
We had the Pommery room no 1. Not the cheapest room and no where near the most expensive but at £130 a night one would expect, especially in a five star hotel, some style, finesse and class - but no.
The Bedroom
The room was falling apart, literally, and while it did bear some resemblance to the photographs on the website, they were clearly very old photographs. The room was cold when we arrived and the girl who took showed us in turned it up as she entered (it looked as though they perhaps had forgotten to turn it on for us).
The bathroom smelt of mould and had mould growing round the windows. The furnishings were falling apart and the towels had seen better days.
The plug in the bath was broken and so I had to use the corkscrew to remove it after I had finished.
The bed was very old and creaky.
The pillows smelled.
All the furnishings were damaged and old .
The soap dispenser had seen better days and was empty (Covid-19 was in full force)
The rug in the bedroom was dangerous as it was curled up at the edges and I kept tripping over it!
The kettle didn’t turn off and clearly had not been appliance checked.
I somehow think I could have overlooked all of this if the restaurant and the food had been ok but things just went downhill once we had dinner.
The restaurant
I had Roast Pork dinner which was cold when it arrived. My partner had fish and chips and the fish was clearly a frozen catering piece of fish (not what one expects from a 5 star restaurant). He had asked for no tartar sauce but it was piled onto the plate anyway.
We had to ask for water twice.
Paper napkins and cheap cutlery
Staff were not really interested in the customers and spend a lot of time chatting to each other.
Looking at the other reviews on this site clearly others had better experiences than us and it’s difficult to know if we had a bad room and the restaurant was having an off night, or whether people just don’t know what to expect from a 5 Star place. Either way - the bedroom we had is no way 5 Star and the staff and are no way 5 star. No one in the place looked like they were enjoying themselves, not the guests or the staff.
When we arrived we were very pleased, the grounds & reception are beautifully kept. We had put temperatures checked at the door & was asked to sanitise our hands which was great. My husband had a mask on but I didn't because I'm exempt so explained that, I was asked to produce an exemption card, but as per the government website stating you do not need one I didn't have one. I was very polite but this seems to annoy the staff member & sge was stroppy with us. Unfortunately that set the tone for our stay, unfriendly & unhappy staff which was a shame.
We were showed around our room, which was absolutely stunning 😊 very clean tidy & perfect for us. It really was beautiful & we loved it, cant fault it at all.
We had a dinner reservation that evening & again, the staff were not friendly & welcoming which is a huge let down. There was one barman who's name I didn't catch, he was very nice & wished my husband a happy 50th birthday which was really lovely because he's the only one who acknowledged my husbands special occasion (he was a mature guy)
Dinner was nice but there was no service with a smile so we ate up & headed back to the room where we get more comfortable. The same thing happened at breakfast the next morning, very down beat staff who were almost miserable to be honest. I'm going to put it down to the fact of covid & assume that perhaps the staff are struggling & unsure of their futures, which I understand. It's just a bit dissapointed when you've paid nearly £500 for your stay!
It wouldnt put me off going back because as I've said, the rooms are worth the money & we thoroughly enjoyed our room. I think id eat in my room next time.
The maintenance in this room was also shocking, I mean I can’t believe this is suppose to be a 5 star accommodation! Our light about our bed was broken, The shower looked so worn and also had patches of green above us. Our Tv in the bedroom area was broke.
I was hugely disappointed and also quite embarrassed as I had taken my partner here for a Special occasion and for him to also notice the black hairs in the bath, towels and some in our bed was abit embarrassing. I paid £350 to stay here for one night and I have to say I am so shocked how bad the accommodation was for this money. I have two other friends who have booked Who’d thought it for themselves and their partner however I will be honest and tell them what I thought about our room.
We had breakfast the following morning just before we left, which I felt was really rushed! My partner went to go and get some cereal and a member of staff approached me and asked if we was ready to order I did mention to the staff my partner was getting his cereal so not to sure what he wants... instead of the staff saying they will come back or so she waited next to me. Which I felt was rushed and quite awkward.
I emailed the email address shown on their website under contact details as soon as I got home and have still not received a reply! I just think this is poor management as I don’t believe they will do anything about it.
The room my partner and I stayed in was filthy.
So where do I start??
There were multiple stains on the carpet, sofa blankets and dressing gowns. We saw hand marks all over the ceiling above the bed.
There was a large stain on the bedside table and the tea cups which were provided had residue at the bottom so these clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly (the kettle also had water in it so clearly this hadn’t been emptied).
The hot tub had gunk and dirt sitting at the bottom when taking of the lid which shows this had not been cleaned from the last guest who had used the room! The garden furniture had cigarette burns all over them and the ash tray still had cigarettes in from the last guest.
We paid £300 for a night stay here. For this money you would expect a high standard of care and better hygiene considering the situation of the coronavirus!
We ordered room service, I had ordered a steak and asked for medium rare. The steak came well done and no peppercorn sauce which was meant to be included.
I have emailed the OWNER of this hotel only to be ignored. Not even an apology. I will never stay here again. Really really disappointed as this was my birthday present from my partner.
Please please do NOT waste your money here. There are plenty of other hotels that are worth the money. Try The Crazy Bear Hotel if you want a luxury stay for less money!!
