This is how we had to control the jets in the hot tub, by lifting the water proof cover and getting out the bath every time.

We Loved the place .
Quirky and stylish and full of charm .
Staff were very helpful and attentive ,
Very clean and Covid compliant .
Vegas room was fantastic and attention to detail and luxury Was no expense spared by the venue.
Even have complimentary clarin products and other products available to use at no extra expense .
Complementary champagne was a great token to drink whilst enjoying the rooms luxurious space And jacuzzi area whilst getting ready to make a short walk to the main restaurant in the converted 16th century pub which was cozy and welcoming .
The restaurant did great food and the cheateubriand was beautifully prepared and for the price was great value for the quality .
Desserts were wonderful and tasty and recommend the vanilla cheese cake .
Here they provided a lost Personel service which I’ve had no where else and even received 2 complimentary cocktails for our inconvenience because myself and GF couldn’t work the heating in the room at no fault of the venue .
That’s how much they cared that we were satisfied tenants for the night .
Will be booking again ASAP hopefully the Ace of spades or collessium room as they look great too .

My boyfriend booked the Dom Suite as a surprise birthday night away. When we arrived, there wasn't any clear signage of where the reception/check in is until we went into the restaurant and by chance saw the check in desk.

Our room was lovely, it was a real treat to have an outdoor and indoor hot tub however, I feel that for the price they charge for a night, the cleaning could have been better and our room smelt of damp/wet dog which isn't pleasant, especially during the current circumstances.

The lighting system was confusing and no instructions so ended sleeping with some of the lights on.

The food in the restaurant was lovely, I had the nicest steaks I've had in a while and breakfast, which was included, was lovely and unlimited drinks.

I would stay here again as it'sa lovely experience and change of scenery, but might take my own cleaning stuff and febreeze next time 😉

We stayed for 2 nights on a couples break. We originally booked the bollinger room however there was a fault with the bath on the morning of our arrival, this was dealt with and communicated to us very well and we were changed to the billicart room. The room itself was lovely, had all the amenities we could need and some nice extras such as the chocolates in the room. The only downside was that the shower was too hot to use, after reporting this the next morning we were only given an apologie, it wasnt until the maintenance man actually walked into the restaurant that the staff offered to try and fix it, however the problem never got resolved and the shower remained to hot to use. The bed was also far too hard and felt like we were sleeping on bricks. We didnt eat in the restaurant as the prices were very high and limited choice, would stay again in a different room if we were in the area.

So we booked the Lanson Black room for our special valentines treat as we try and stay somewhere different every year. This was our first visit at this hotel and booked 3wks in advance to ensure we got the date and room we wanted. The room is exactly as shown on the website. It's really nice and spacious with a black and red theme which certainly sets the mood. There are different lightning settings which is really nice so you can make it darker if you want or turn whichever lamps on and off depending on if your ready to go to sleep etc. The TV in the room is massive and has sky sports and movies if interested. The TV also has Bluetooth so you can connect to your phone for music which was a nice touch when we were getting ready for dinner and had a little boogie to our favourite tracks. The round sofa in the room is also really big and comfy. There are some games on the table that you can play and get creative with (if you know what I mean). The room is well heated and also with air con if it does get abit too hot inside. Now the bed, well... Let's talk about the mirror above the bed! Wow.. That was the reason I booked this room as not many hotels have this extra special treat. It really is an experience and I will leave the rest to your imaginations. The bed is also really nice and big, super comfy and the pillows were amazing. We booked directly from the hotel so got a nice bottle of champagne and breakfast included in our room price. The hotel left us some complimentary chocolates in our fridge, we had teas and coffees in our room too, iron, hair straighteners and the usual, slippers and gowns.

Now let's talk about the bathroom! This was also one of the reasons I booked this hotel for the private hot tub in our room which is massive. The water came out nice and hot which was a dream that you can easily cool down to whatever temperature you prefer. The bubbles in the hot tub were full force fierce, just the way a hot tub should be and felt like you'd had a full body massage after getting out of it. Defo a bonus.

We had dinner and breakfast in the hotels restaurant which was really nice and intimate. Seating was very comfortable and the food was delicious. You can view the menu online so you know what to expect with prices but I felt the menu was very reasonably priced. Breakfast was included giving us a few different options of what we would like. The full English breakfast is a really good size and will definitely fill you up.

The staff here were extremely friendly and kind. All the staff we met were very welcoming. I wish I asked their names as I would give them a big shout out on here.

All the rooms here are different and after our lovely night away here, we will most definitely be back to stay in a different room which we look forward to very much.

Thank you Who'd a thought it - Great stay (Pam)

I truly don't know where to start with this review except to say I feel cheated. We booked this hotel last minute because we had to change previous plans and felt like treating ourselves. With a 5 Star AA rating we expected to get 5 Star accommodation, food and service. However, it was more like 2 Star.

We had the Pommery room no 1. Not the cheapest room and no where near the most expensive but at £130 a night one would expect, especially in a five star hotel, some style, finesse and class - but no.

The Bedroom

The room was falling apart, literally, and while it did bear some resemblance to the photographs on the website, they were clearly very old photographs. The room was cold when we arrived and the girl who took showed us in turned it up as she entered (it looked as though they perhaps had forgotten to turn it on for us).

The bathroom smelt of mould and had mould growing round the windows. The furnishings were falling apart and the towels had seen better days.

The plug in the bath was broken and so I had to use the corkscrew to remove it after I had finished.

The bed was very old and creaky.

The pillows smelled.

All the furnishings were damaged and old .

The soap dispenser had seen better days and was empty (Covid-19 was in full force)

The rug in the bedroom was dangerous as it was curled up at the edges and I kept tripping over it!

The kettle didn’t turn off and clearly had not been appliance checked.

I somehow think I could have overlooked all of this if the restaurant and the food had been ok but things just went downhill once we had dinner.

The restaurant

I had Roast Pork dinner which was cold when it arrived. My partner had fish and chips and the fish was clearly a frozen catering piece of fish (not what one expects from a 5 star restaurant). He had asked for no tartar sauce but it was piled onto the plate anyway.

We had to ask for water twice.

Paper napkins and cheap cutlery

Staff were not really interested in the customers and spend a lot of time chatting to each other.

Looking at the other reviews on this site clearly others had better experiences than us and it’s difficult to know if we had a bad room and the restaurant was having an off night, or whether people just don’t know what to expect from a 5 Star place. Either way - the bedroom we had is no way 5 Star and the staff and are no way 5 star. No one in the place looked like they were enjoying themselves, not the guests or the staff.

I booked the colloseum room for myself & my husband as his birthday treat.

When we arrived we were very pleased, the grounds & reception are beautifully kept. We had put temperatures checked at the door & was asked to sanitise our hands which was great. My husband had a mask on but I didn't because I'm exempt so explained that, I was asked to produce an exemption card, but as per the government website stating you do not need one I didn't have one. I was very polite but this seems to annoy the staff member & sge was stroppy with us. Unfortunately that set the tone for our stay, unfriendly & unhappy staff which was a shame.

We were showed around our room, which was absolutely stunning 😊 very clean tidy & perfect for us. It really was beautiful & we loved it, cant fault it at all.

We had a dinner reservation that evening & again, the staff were not friendly & welcoming which is a huge let down. There was one barman who's name I didn't catch, he was very nice & wished my husband a happy 50th birthday which was really lovely because he's the only one who acknowledged my husbands special occasion (he was a mature guy)

Dinner was nice but there was no service with a smile so we ate up & headed back to the room where we get more comfortable. The same thing happened at breakfast the next morning, very down beat staff who were almost miserable to be honest. I'm going to put it down to the fact of covid & assume that perhaps the staff are struggling & unsure of their futures, which I understand. It's just a bit dissapointed when you've paid nearly £500 for your stay!

It wouldnt put me off going back because as I've said, the rooms are worth the money & we thoroughly enjoyed our room. I think id eat in my room next time.

I returned home on 23/02/2020 from a one night stay in this “5 star accommodation” ‘The lodge’ room. I have got to start by saying how disappointed I was due to the cleanest of this room. I was in absolute shock!! Our jacuzzi bath had black hairs around the bath nozzles and in the bath, our clean towels also had black hairs on them. The tables beside the bed looked like they hadn’t been dusted at all. When my partner took a bath an awful smell can from the jets when they were turned on and we noticed just before we was leaving in the morning the bath was covered in black stuff which to me seems like it’s come from these jets (I regret not taking a picture of this before leaving).

The maintenance in this room was also shocking, I mean I can’t believe this is suppose to be a 5 star accommodation! Our light about our bed was broken, The shower looked so worn and also had patches of green above us. Our Tv in the bedroom area was broke.

I was hugely disappointed and also quite embarrassed as I had taken my partner here for a Special occasion and for him to also notice the black hairs in the bath, towels and some in our bed was abit embarrassing. I paid £350 to stay here for one night and I have to say I am so shocked how bad the accommodation was for this money. I have two other friends who have booked Who’d thought it for themselves and their partner however I will be honest and tell them what I thought about our room.

We had breakfast the following morning just before we left, which I felt was really rushed! My partner went to go and get some cereal and a member of staff approached me and asked if we was ready to order I did mention to the staff my partner was getting his cereal so not to sure what he wants... instead of the staff saying they will come back or so she waited next to me. Which I felt was rushed and quite awkward.

I emailed the email address shown on their website under contact details as soon as I got home and have still not received a reply! I just think this is poor management as I don’t believe they will do anything about it.

Please think twice before paying a lot of money to stay here!!

The room my partner and I stayed in was filthy.

So where do I start??
There were multiple stains on the carpet, sofa blankets and dressing gowns. We saw hand marks all over the ceiling above the bed.

There was a large stain on the bedside table and the tea cups which were provided had residue at the bottom so these clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly (the kettle also had water in it so clearly this hadn’t been emptied).

The hot tub had gunk and dirt sitting at the bottom when taking of the lid which shows this had not been cleaned from the last guest who had used the room! The garden furniture had cigarette burns all over them and the ash tray still had cigarettes in from the last guest.

We paid £300 for a night stay here. For this money you would expect a high standard of care and better hygiene considering the situation of the coronavirus!

We ordered room service, I had ordered a steak and asked for medium rare. The steak came well done and no peppercorn sauce which was meant to be included.

I have emailed the OWNER of this hotel only to be ignored. Not even an apology. I will never stay here again. Really really disappointed as this was my birthday present from my partner.

Please please do NOT waste your money here. There are plenty of other hotels that are worth the money. Try The Crazy Bear Hotel if you want a luxury stay for less money!!

I had booked the Lanson Black suite due to the fact that it looked sexy yet classy for a romantic stay with my partner for his birthday and I was soooo excited to come, due to coronavirus we couldn’t go and I had to email back and forth with staff to even get a change of date!! That got sorted and I still wanted to go for an occasion due to the fact that we live no where near maidstone and me and my partner work a lot. Anyway, we then booked it in for our anniversary which was last weekend. Prior to coming, I called to make sure everything was okay with the booking as it would be a long drive and a lot of wasted time if something was to go wrong. Staff had said that I was booked in to stay in the Lanson Black room and that everything was okay. Me and my partner then arrived to be told that they’re so sorry but they’ve double booked and someone is in my room!!!!! I was very annoyed but due to the long drive I asked what they could do. They said they had one room available which was the Tattinger Mini, I said I’d take the room but was very disheartened. I was shown to the room and was apologised to and told that I’d get the room for free and be given a refund. After asking what could be done and asking if I could still have the free breakfast I was entitled to, I was given a free bottle of champagne and free breakfast with room service. This was thanks to Sarah, I could see that she felt bad about what had happened so I appreciated it. I still did not enjoy my stay, the room was small, smelt strange and was rather dirty. Stains on the curtains and carpet, dusty and the towels had marks on them. I feel like the room hadn’t been cleaned sufficiently as the room was not pre booked and I was placed in there last minute. It was a very big let down, I could have cried! The food at the restaurant was not to my standard either, the steak wasn’t of a good quality and my partner didn’t particularly like his burger either. The desserts were also very mediocre. I was in the restaurant from 8pm - 10:30pm to only eat 2 courses! The waiting time was abysmal! The one thing I actually enjoyed was my breakfast, the egg was cooked nicely and it was a nice meal for the road. Very sad to say after looking forward to staying here, I will not stay again.

My husband and I stayed here on the first night of reopening from lock down. It was absolutely amazing! Joe and all at Who’d a thought it were so friendly and accommodating, we were made to feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. All the right measures were in place for hand sanitising and limiting people inside to access toilets. Our room was lovely, bed was so comfortable and the hot tub topped it off for a relaxing night away from reality! The food was also to die for! All in all perfect night away and an amazing venue! Will definitely be returning.
