I'm not a very light sleeper but I just could not get any decent sleep here. Even though I was on the 20th floor I could still hear the constant sound of the trains. Trains stop maybe around 12.30am? That's the last time remember hearing the trains. Even business hotels like Toyoko Inn have better sound proofing and they are usually right next to the train stations. However, what's worse is the constant humming noise within the room. They need to get some acoustics expert in to look at this because the humming noise gets right into your head. I could not sleep at all because of this and moved around the room and noticed some areas the noise was not as audible but unfortunately the left side of the bed was very loud. My partner was asleep so I thought it's just me and I was going crazy and the next morning when I told her about it, I noticed that the noise was not audible on the right side of the bed. She also noticed the noise when she switched to the left side. I even turned off the air condition thinking it was that but didn't solve the issue. Sitting in the toilet was actually the most quiet area in the entire room. They also made some effort into providing a minimalist approach by hiding things in the room like the TV and coffee machine but the bed side charger is in a drawer so you need to open the drawer to charge your phone. Not sure why they can't just put in a power point or the wireless charger on the top. Also one of the wireless chargers wasn't working. The one nice touch is that the controls have sensors which light up so even in the dark you can control the air conditioning etc. Finally the check in is right at the back of the lobby. When you enter the hotel, both the left and right hand side is the cafe with a walkway in the middle. You are effectively walking through a cafe to get to check in. Imagine you arrive in their famous Rolls Royce pick up but then the first thing you see when you enter the hotel is a whole room full of people eating and you have to walk past just to get to the check in counter. The feeling of luxury and exclusivity disappear in an instant. Service was nice. Everyone was smiling and helpful as expected but overall the rooms need a huge improvement in sound proofing in order to provide a decent sleeping environment which is the main objective of a luxury hotel for me.

Hotel's Favourite
Japan lifted its COVID-19 State of Emergency in the end of May. Cases had been going down we waited for a few weeks to ensure the trend continues. However, we also wanted to de-stress and take a quick break in a safe and comfortable manner. At this point, the Peninsula Tokyo was about to open and announced a great Staycation package "Eight Loves of Peninsula Tokyo". With 24 hour flexible check-in, choice of 1 of 8 private experiences, dining credits, swimming pool access, and more than adequate safety protocols, we decided to do a staycation as a family (2 adults and 4 year old). We were a bit nervous still doing this but as soon as we checked-in, we did not regret our decision. Everyone wore a mask, temperatures were always checked, and we were all given small bottles of hand sanitizer to take with us wherever we went. Our room had sanitation seals and there was an option for contactless service through the valet box. They supplied us with masks and more hand sanitizer. While the hotel seemed like it had a lot of guests, it never seemed full or impossible to social distance. In fact, we were the only ones using the swimming pool every time we were there. As part of the package, Hiroshi-san (I think this was his name) from the concierge desk took us on a private tour of the Imperial Palace Gardens. While we have been living in Tokyo for more than 2 years, this was our first time to enter the palace and our guide was really an expert. Breakfast in the room was also memorable. All in all, it was a great experience and look forward to returning again!

公式websiteから予約。 今回は特典がいっぱいついた「We Meet Again – The Eight Loves of The Peninsula Tokyo」というプランで申し込んだ。 朝食はin room diningでchinese breakfastを注文。中華粥の旨味というかコクがちょっと足りないのでは?と思った。油條をつけといてくれたらいいのに。 コロナ禍が落ち着いたら再訪してみたい。

The cleanness about this place is horrible despite its appearance at the breakfast club the coffee came out like some gross yellow-ish liquid and the toilet had graffiti in it and everything about it was horrible. I went to another hotel the next day instead of this crap-hole.

I had very high expectations for Peninsula Hotel. I stayed here for 4 nights with my family of 2 adults and 2 kids. Our room was big with a huge changing room/closet/make up room which I felt took up too much space. I would have preferred the extra space in the bedroom. I expected our room to be really luxurious, this being the Peninsula after all, but it was not as luxurious as I had expected. The room was still very nice but just not as nice as the Ritz Carlton or Grand Hyatt both of which I stayed at in Tokyo before. The Peninsula is located in Yurakucho so it was very convenient for shopping, eating and public transit. We spent all of time exploring Tokyo so we didn't use any of the hotel facilities. For the price of the Peninsula, there are other high end hotels available that are more luxurious and so I will choose a different one next time.
