Travellers' Choice
Set on the Southern coastline of Sri Lanka just a few minutes along the coastal highway from spectacular Mirissa Beach, and within easy reach of Galle or Matara, Villa Atulya offers an idyllic holiday experience. Set in ocean front, this is a home away from home with all required luxury where you can enjoy your holiday without the hustle and bustle of a commercially run hotel. The Villa was designed by the leading Sri Lankan architect, Mr C Anjalendran,a protege of Geoffrey Bawa. There are five spacious bedrooms with attached bathrooms. All bedrooms are air conditioned and offer spectacular views of the Indian Ocean. The antique furniture and paintings carefully chosen by the architect adds a touch of opulence of a bygone era to the Villa and its open verandas facing the ocean. When you are at the Villa all you will hear is the hypnotic sound of the Indian Ocean rolling on to the reef in front which makes this a special place to unwind and reconnect with simpler things in life. The Villa has its own swimming pool and staff ( Manager, Housekeeper and Chef) who will happily attend to your every need.At Villa Atulya you can enjoy the finest home cooked Sri Lankan meals as well as a variety of Western dishes prepared to suit your palate by our Resident Chef.If you prefer to buy fresh fish and vegetables from the market, our staff will prepare meals according to your taste at no extra cost. We had a great stay at Villa Atulya with extended family. We booked both villas (5 rooms each) & each with their own pool. There’s large garden spaces in both so it’s great for kids or a friendly game of cricket. The villa manager Ranga & his team ensured everyone was comfortable. The food was really good and everyone enjoyed their stay. The sea front right outside the villa is rocky so be sure to pack water shoes or sandals. Having said that, there’s lot of marine life visible in the naturally formed tide pools. To the right of the villa is a small natural pool / Bay Area that is great to chill in (and also for varieties of fish). Further down to the right there are pretty big waves but it’s not suitable for body boarding because of the rocks. I’d really recommend Villa Atulya for a group vacation.

We paid for the villa which has 5 rooms and can also be used as one suite with 3 rooms. Rooms are spacious, clean and has all the amnesties. Bathrooms are spacious. The villa has this beautiful vintage feel with all the modern facilities, it was a perfect getaway for just us. The staff was helpful and f riendly, we bought the dry rations and they cooked the meals. Meals were good. The pool was well maintained and kids love it. Beach right infront of the villa was not so great, but if you walked down a bit it's nice. Definitely a good option for times n likes of Covid!

We had a great stay with our 2 boys at Atulya Villa. Enjoyed to the best. Rooms were very spacious and had all amenities needed. One speciality was that bathrooms are huge and was excellent. You definitely will get a homey feeling when you stay. One last thing, the awesome beach with super blue and clean water.

This place is an amazing choice for a family or friends vacation. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful looking into everything we required. They even altered the menu for our tastes. They served the best Sri Lankan food that we've had. The place was well maintained and the ambience was very home centered. We enjoyed every bit of our vacation.

We weren’t at all sure what to expect from Villa Atulya as some reviews left us in some doubt but we shouldn’t have worried. It’s a laid back place but rest assured if you need anything they will do their best to help you . As other reviews have pointed out guests are left in some doubt over eg room servicing. Unless you hand your key in and ask them to do it , they won’t. But if you ask them ... they will! Simples! The staff are young but we were served great and generous breakfasts and “ Chef” is talented. They also prepared evening meals on request with extras we asked for. They will “ fetch” beer on request and do their upmost to please . It took us a day or so to get into the swing of it but once we knew how things worked we had no problems. Yes ... some sort of information in your room explaining some of the ‘quirks ‘ may have helped but we would happily stay on our next trip to that stretch of coast . Thank you to all of the staff for making our stay an enjoyable one !
