My boyfriend and I have just returned from six wonderful nights at the lovely Spice House. It's located close to the beach. The staff are all kind and helpful, as are the owners who helped us arrange day trips and even a trip to the hospital with a local person to help us translate when I was sick. The breakfasts...

Great place, we stayed for 3 weeks after a long stay in India. We had a lovely room in the main house over looking the pool and beautiful gardens. Other rooms are spread around the gardens in various quaint buildings. The food was very nice. lovely breakfasts and dinners were just fantastic. We did venture out for dinner a few times,...

This is a small Sri Lankan style hotel on the East side Of Mirissa. There are rooms available in the main building, near the main building and a new block around two minutes walk away. The hotel is run by Phil from England and his Sri Lankan wife both who ensure a friendly welcome and an efficient service. Food is...

The Spice House run by Phil and his wife Wathsala, is a gem in a very central location in Mirissa across the road from the beach but shielded from the noisy, busy street by jungle-like vegetation bordering the property making you feel you are really in paradise. And yet it’s only a few metres from the beautiful Mirissa Beach. The...

We stayed for 3 nights here and it was wonderful. The room was nice, with our own balcony. The hosts are friendly and interested in their guests. We had dinner twice and I can strongly recommend it. The dinner was vegetarian + fish, non spicy (our first non spicy during our trip) and all guests eat together. Both of those...

We stayed as a couple with family at this beautiful little place one weekend. It's lovely and quiet and serene. Our room at the bottom of the garden was lovely. We had a nice brunch too. Service was good, the couple who own the place were very friendly. Food was fairly good. Most special is it's beautiful garden, the peace...

We recently stayed here for 5 nights and it was perfect. We were in the Ginger room in a separate building a short walk through the gardens. The room was very spacious, beautifully decorated and we have a great balcony to enjoy the jungle views. The breakfasts were lovely so relaxing and we had dinner at the house our last...

Spice House is a gorgeous hotel, beautiful gardens and very peaceful. We were in the peacock room (star anise) which was spacious and secluded down the back of the garden with a verandah on both sides of the room. The hosts were terrific, very friendly and helpful. Would also highly recommend the food here and suggest getting the dinner option...

Thank you for your kind review which is very much appreciated. Sorry to hear about us not following up on the cookery class. I have asked the chef and he was not well on that day but apologies for not letting you know. Trust me as he gets a bonus for doing it, it is usually on offer on any...

Nobody likes hearing those words "sorry, but we're completely booked out for tomorrow". But that's what happens when you don't book enough nights for an amazing place like The Spice House. It was sad to leave because this place embodies everything that we look for in accomodation. Clean, quiet, amazing service but more importantly we have such appreciation for the...

I never write reviews but this place definitely deserves a mention. My husband and I stayed at the Spice House for 7 nights recently (Feb) and loved every minute of it. Phil and Wathsala were wonderful hosts. Super friendly and very helpful. The Spice house staff could not have been more attentive, the food was amazing, the pool, Devine and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Spice House, Mirissa is a beautiful Colonial style guesthouse with its own private swimming pool set in a peaceful, landscaped garden full of tropical flowers, fruits, spices, ponds & hammocks. It is ideally situated only one minute from a beautiful, reef protected bay & 1km from the main bustle of Mirissa beach. The guesthouse is English owned by an experienced traveller and his Sri Lankan Wife which allows us to offer our guests the perfect mix of Western comfort & luxury alongside Sri Lankan charm & service - we like our guests to feel like part of the family. The house is shaded by coconut palms & cinnamon trees to the front while the back is terraced which allows wonderful views over the surrounding jungle. Local wildlife is often seen in our garden with daily visits from monkeys, kingfishers, peacocks, woodpeckers & squirrels. We can also help with Airport transfers & booking whale watching trips during the season (November - April). ... more   less
