My Husband and I stayed here recently and had booked for two nights but only stayed for one. We had to pay for the second night but we didn’t want to stay so didn’t care. The pool is nice but the upkeep of the property and the rooms is very poor and doesn’t look like it did online. You can stay in much nicer places for the same price in Mirissa, it felt like the only place we stayed in Sri Lanka that wasn’t good value for money. It took forever to check in and out and the breakfast wasn’t good. I wouldn’t recommend it.

This hotel is much more basic than the pictures indicate. The bathroom in our room was grotty - holes in tiles, blackened grouting, dark smears on the walls etc. The electrics didn’t look safe and the whole property needs quite a bit of maintenance and repair work to get it looking good again. The location is excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful, they were the best thing about this property. Some of the other guests were awful - a large loutish group of English people who came back drunk at 3.30am and were really rude when asked to be quiet. That wasn’t the hotel’s fault of course.

Positive: -Shahan the manager makes this hotel what it is! He is charismatic, enthusiastic and very helpful. Whenever we required assistance he was on hand and willing to help. -Lovely pool with music and mood lighting. - The staff were very friendly! -Rumba Bar on the beach is linked with the hotel and we received the 10% discount for staying at the hotel. This bar is lively and has a good ambience. The food was delicious however the cocktails needed some work! -Air conditioning worked well. Negative: - We had both breakfast and some snacks at the hotel, they were average and could definitely be improved. - The fan in the room was very loud. Overall we had a very fun and enjoyable stay at the pineapple retreat! There are a few aspects which need some work however we would definitely stay here again and would recommend to others.

Good things: the super friendly and helpful staff, the nice pool, fridge in room, nice relaxed atmosphere, the breakfast included in the (quite cheap) room rate. Not so good: during our stay the nationwide power cuts meant the AC cut out and the (windowless) room got very hot, the overhead fan was initially unbearably noisy (managers did get it fixed on day 3 of our stay) our room was poorly sound-proofed (it had glass walls) and a noisy family group next door woke us up at 3am when they came in from a night out. Otherwise it was fine. A 10 minute walk to the beach.

We visited as two couples & booked the cottages that are slightly separate to the main complex in mid April, which is apparently toward the end of the tourist season. I have read the other bad reviews on here & would say what were you expecting paying c £20 per person per night for a room with air-con, breakfast included and a swimming pool in a fairly central location!? The staff here were excellent & very helpful, telling us good places to eat & also booked a whale watching tour for us with pick up from the hotel included. The rooms were basic, but the pool area with the hammock, bean bags & loungers were great. They also play some great music during the day. It is an easy walk to the beach and all the restaurants / bars etc. I would highly recommend this place if you want something cheap and cheerful with a great host.

My 3 friends and I stayed here for 4 nights. On arrival we were greeted by the owner and he was friendly and enquired about what we wanted to do whilst in Mirissa. We had already booked our whale watching but he would have sorted that our for us through the hotel. The room was clean and adequate, however our fan was extremely loud and sounded like it was about to fall off the ceiling. We couldn't use it but had air con. The shower was fine but fluctuated between scalding hot and freezing with no in between. The breakfast was nice but not free as advertised on booking.com. It was a set price regardless of what you ordered which meant you could get a good deal or lose money depending on what you ordered. The pool is lovely and the sunbeds are comfortable. The kitchen plays loud (in my opinion annoying) music throughout the day though. Booking.com said the hotel would take the payment before we arrived from my card but this never happened and I then had to pay a 3% card charge and conversion rate so make sure you pay in cash. We asked to book a taxi on the final morning and waited over an hour for it to arrive. The price was high compared to previous taxi journeys and when the taxi finally arrived we weren't allowed to leave because the driver was arguing about the price that had been quoted to us by the hotel. From previous reviews it seems this place has upped its game but it still has some way to go. We were also offered a 10%discount to eat at rumba their associate bar, but we were never given this discount even when we asked for it. The service there was absolutely terrible. Lovely ambience and surroundings and adequate rooms but nothing to write home about.

Pineapple Retreat was very good. The staff were kind, interactive, helpful and really made our stay awesome. Our room was big and it was nice to be located outside of the main town as it was quiet. Just a 200 tuk to tuk or 10 minute walk in to town. Bathrooms need some work.

We booked this hotel because we fell in love with the pictures. The room we got was nothing like them and was like in an annex. Still, we were positive about it. However, on the first night there, we were woken up at 3.00am by strange sounds in the room. It was a RAT! We tried to keep calm because we are in the middle of nature and stayed up waiting for it to leave the room. However, when we started moving furniture we discovered a NEST!! The mother had even taken toilet paper and had its babies there!!! This means the room hasn't been thoroughly clean in at least a couple of weeks! We were disgusted. Help didn't came until 7.30am even though we asked for it at 3.00am. We didn't sleep all night and the next morning they came to "clean" but didn't even disinfect the room. We decided to leave and even though the manager was really sorry for it but still charged us the whole price (not a cheap hotel and definitely not what we paid for). He is a nice guy but our experience with the cleanliness was really bad even though we tried to be positive at first. Not worth the money, there are many more places in Mirissa and had a better experience after we left and in a cheaper hotel.

Our original room, superior, had a bathroom full of mold and fungus, windows were broken. We switched to a deluxe room which was cleaner. Shower barely had any water pressure, during the many power blackouts there was only cold water. The hotel has no power generator. Rendering the air-conditioning utterly useless most of the day. Staff barely speaks English and is unfriendly. Would definitely not recommend this place.. stay away

Arrived after an early morning to find our room had been cancelled, apparently with 24hr notice but it turned out to have been done at 3am. Spoke tot he owner on the phone who was rude, arrogant and unhelpful as well as passive aggressive despite my relatively relaxed but clearly frustrated tone. Said our room had some emergency maintenance issue-ie they overbook to the highest bidder. Asked for a refund of the money we had just paid to travel there from the beach as a goodwill gesture given the situation, owner refused and got angry I had suggested such a thing. Pool is deceptively small to than what it looks like in the photos. The communal restrooms were like building sites. Blessing in disguise we had to find somewhere else woth a much more professional attitude.
