Detailed Reviews
Bed and Breakfast here is so peaceful and quiet, with a very friendly welcome and very comfortable beds. Breakfast is brought to your room and is a great combo of fruit, granola, toast, yoghurt and tea/coffee - perfect. We felt very relaxed here and would happily recommend it. Quite a lot of things to do nearby. We had a good evening meal in Abbeyleix.

Beautiful house with the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in! Lovely antiques, only thing that didn't go was the cream carpet, can't imagine it's practical either. Fab continental breakfast in bed with delicious juice, yogurt, home made muesli and bread and great strong coffee. So peaceful! Lovely owners who dried my phone on the stove for me when they found I'd dropped it outside. Would be lovely in summer when you can sit outside and look at the woodlands.

Stunning place and best nights sleep in years!
This is an amazing property. Beautiful high ceilings and beautifully appointed decor. Most of all it was the best night sleep I've had in years. It had the most comfortable bed ever. The bed linen was so top quality I had to check it out!! The breakfast delivered to our room was truly lovely too and the bread was very tasty. Myself and my husband would highly recommend this property. Serene surroundings... An oasis of calm.

I fell in love with this place, we were gifted a night here as a wedding present. We are both from the locality but really welcomed an uninterrupted night away.
We arrived around 8pm and were shown to our room. It was obvious to the eye how clean the room was. The room was spacious and warm. We slept in the most comfortable bed.
The place was so quiet.
Next morning we had a beautiful vegan breakfast. A spicy porridge was on offer or scrambled eggs. The sourdough bread was devine. A small fire was lighting in the dining room, the views outside into lawn were breathtaking.
It truly is a hidden gem.
If I had one criticism is would be that i would have a personal preference for individual dining tables for breakfast rather than one large one.
I would highly recommend a visit. A small bit of paradise, a chance to pause in an otherwise crazy life.

Our stay at Blackhill Woods was very relaxing! The room was spacious and beautiful with large windows and a very comfortable bed. Everything, including the bathroom, was very clean. The highlight of our short stay was definitely the breakfast in bed!

We had a good experience staying near Durrow for a wedding. We walked the charming trails out back, and it was a pleasant spot overall. I gave it a three because a spider climbed out of the toilet up the side of my rump, so there was that.

We have truly enjoyed staying in Blackwoods. It is such an amazing place where you can enjoy at peace and quiet and relaxing atmosphere. You have to try a woodland walk at the back of the property, the path will bring you to the magical forest!. Not to mention our dogs loved this place.
10 out of 10 from us and our dogges :) Highly recommended

Blackhill Woods Retreat is an exceptional place. We had the most amazing weekend in this beautiful house thanks to Simon, Eilish and their lovely family. From the moment we arrived we were treated to the warmest hospitality ...and shown to our beautiful room which had stunning views of the surrounding gardens and forest. Simon was a wonderful host, and gave us great advice regarding our activities. After a lovely healthy breakfast we headed off to do the 4k raised bog walk in Abbeyleix. Following this we then headed to Glenbarrow and completed the Waterfall Walk (circa 7klm) of the Slieve Bloom Mountains which was fabulous too. We ate in McEvoys on Friday night which was superb and then in Castle Durrow on Saturday night - another real treat ! We wanted to have time away from the hustle and bustle of Dublin...and we certainly experienced that in this stunning location. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Thank you guys...we will be back !

This is a fantastic house with friendly and welcoming owners. The house is elegant and absolutely gorgeous with so much space in every room.
We had a huge room with high celings, with windows on two sides and views out into the garden and woodland. In addition there was a dressing room where we also had tea/coffee making facilities. Then next to this was a most impressive modern and stylish bathroom with large separate shower, toilet, twin hand basins and a stand alone bath with views out into the wooded area at the back of the house.
We thoroughly enjoyed every part of our stay especially exploring the woodland with our dog. The peace and tranquility was wonderful.
This was the best two day stay of our whole holiday.
