We found this "resort" thru TripAdvisor. We were guided to booking.com and booked 2 nights. 70 € each night !!! We arrived after sunset on our motorbike and when we got there few dogs attacked us. After a while an old lady showed up and told us to wait for the manager who arrived after 20 minutes. Meanwhile we had...

Lovely experience! Would definitely recommend it to anyone! Ideal hideaway experience for the whole family; away from the hustle and bustle, but with all the amenities. Sisira and Indrani were great and the service was very good, not to mention the food that was absolutely fantastic.

This was the second time I have stayed at Alankuda and the second time around was better than I remembered. Its the perfect place to let everything go and just relax. We were 6 people (3 couples) travelling together and rented we one of the houses. Given that the house only had 2 rooms the management organised so that we...

Perfect hideaway for relaxation off the busy lives of Colombo. Absolutely loved our stay at Alankuda beach . The location of the pools both sea water and normal water were blissful. Very friendly staff who attended us attentively and excellently. Really love the Eco concept and the unique way in which the rooms are designed. Looking forward to come back...

We had a wonderful and ideally relaxing time in this secluded little hideaway... It almost felt like we had the whole place to ourselves... The place was made even more welcoming by the friendly staff, especially Sebastian, who gives you an excellent level of service along with allowing your privacy... If you want to just relax and get away from...

We stayed there for 3 days and got the impression this is one of the places where we normally do not pay more than 40$. The accomodation is not bad, but we are speaking about hutts. The beach is long and empty, but with strong winds, nice for windsurfing , but not for beach live. For dinner there is a...

Thank you Roberto, Vera and Sebastian for the wonderful time we had at Bar Reef Resort. This is barefoot luxury - so it is not for people who need air conditioning, room service or towels everyday. But the Villa Samara - where we stayed - was clean, bed was comfortable, the fan worked. There is no doubt that a few...

We could not enjoy our stay here as many of us lost money from our wallets kept in the rooms. We were having breakfast and when we went back to the rooms the money was stolen. Even the drivers wallet was stolen from the drivers quarters. After writing to the owners for months only we were able to recover the...

Although the people are friendly and the food was good. I wouldn't go back or recommend it. It's over priced and for my three young kids, boring! I've traveled all over the world and here you don't get your moneys worth, I felt riped off!

12 of us (8 adults and 4 kids) had a rare and novel experience when we stayed 2 nights at a villa in Bar Reef Resort. Resort was very clean and the villa with its large veranda, big garden and open air showers gave the feeling that we were staying in a village house. Veranda has 2 sets of L...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The founders of Ulpotha, the highly acclaimed retreat in the heartland of old Ceylon (see TripAdvisor listing) together with a close friend renowned in the marine adventure and water sports worlds, have opened a unique and captivatingly quirky beach resort on the western peninsula of this tear-shaped island. Situated on an undiscovered and deserted two kilometer stretch of a pristine private beach, Alankuda Beach offers a truly relaxing, discrete and romantic getaway. The azure, warm ocean is almost always mirror-calm and welcoming during the months of October to May. The coastal waters offer the treasures of dolphin and whale watching as well as snorkeling over nearby spectacular coral formations. In addition there is deep-sea fishing, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, kite and wind surfing. Alankuda Beach is situated 3 hours north of Colombo and just over 2 hours from the airport. There is a range of accommodation along the beach all managed by Alankuda Beach, so there is something for everyone. ... more   less
