This review is a difficult one to write, as I feel (and hope) that our stay will not reflect yours, however it is important that travellers have the full picture.

We visited Marie-Galante in August as a family. The location is very good... the beach is not at your doorstep, but is not too far away. The beaches themselves are superbe, though small.

We stayed in bungalow Soleil which is located directly in front of the swimming area. The pool is nice, and in good condition. The room is very nicely furnished for the price, tasteful and in good condition. All the usual amenities in a good hotel plus a nice little outdoor kitchen and table.

The kids slept on a couch which converts to a sofa. Their mosquito net was filled with holes and the kids awoke the next day covered with bites, but when I brought it to the management's attention, it was promptly replaced with a new one and we had help arranging the beds to better suit our needs.

The lounge area in the front needs some maintenance... the chairs are seated beside a dead tree and there is not much privacy. I would recommend the Marine over the Soleil for this reason, until the space is fixed up.

Now for the "exceptional circumstances." Our entire stay we were without either water or electricity... or both. That means no flushing toilets for a family of 4, no shower, no clean clothes or towels etc. This was due to a storm which knocked out power which in turn knocked out the pump, then again the power, then again the pump... The management did make a considerable effort to straighten out the situation, but it seems their hands were tied and they did not have a generator. Luckily being next to the pool, we could use buckets to make due.

We were also caught by surprise when a tropical storm hit. I thought travelling during hurricane season meant that we would be alerted when something came up, but I only learned about it from an email sent by the Canadian government to its citizens and when I asked the manager, she confirmed that it was to hit in 5 hours! Keep your iPhone handy and check the US hurricane centre site.

I would commend the management for their concern about their guests, their attention to detail and the effort. I must say, however, that I was surprised to have been charge 100% of our bill considering our inconveniences and not so much as a free ice cream as compensation.

Rose du Bresil, is a very nice place, however, and I would still recommend it.

What a gorgeous place to stay, an excellent choice for our vacation...The bungalow Azur was extremely cozy, the terrace and private garden excellent for breakfast and dinner outside, kitchen offered all comfort for home-cooking and discovery of exotic fruits and veggies...Last but not least Myry, the so friendly owner, was always there to answer every question and to give good tips...and she also cooks excellent!

Thanks a lot for the warm welcome and for taking so well care of u:-)))

We spent a week with our family with 2 young children in La Rose du Bresil outside school holidays. Our suite was spacious, clean, well equipped and charming. It had 2 good sized bedrooms, 1 beautiful bathroom and 1 shower room. It had a big veranda with large comfy sofa, well equipped kitchen block and big table with 6 chairs. All very well decorated and it looked quite new too (or maybe it had just been refurbished). We had our own little garden with hammock, BBQ and sunbeds. Everything we needed was simply there! We felt home! Just a few metres away was the nice swimming pool with plenty of sunbeds, it was never very busy at the pool. Only problem was that we were there outside school holidays and I had the impression that some older guests did not really like children (but that was of course not the fault of the hotel). Nice charming restaurant ran by a very friendly couple with young children. They did everything to make us happy. They serve breakfast and dinner, but not lunch, which was not a problem as we had our own kitchen. Excellent restaurant, good choice in the evening with several fish and meat dishes on the menu each day. Dinner reasonably priced. Good breakfast but overpriced. Beautiful beach at 200 meters. Easy to walk there, even with young children. Not a very busy road. The beach is ideal for children as quite calm sea. A rental car is a must though to explore the island and for trips to the supermarket and to visit other beaches on the island. Reception desk not always open at the indicated times but very friendly and helpful. You'd better indicate your exact arrival time as we arrived a few hours earlier than we had indicated and there was no one to receive us and to give us the key. The only negative comment I would like to make here is that they do not make your beds or clean your room and bathroom (unless you pay an additional 17 euro per day). You can get new towels if you ask for it.
I can really recommend this place and certainly hope to return there myself. It is great for families and couples alike.

I stayed here for a second time in early 2014, this time with a bunch of friends and enjoyed again the amazingly cozy island of tranquility; what is great, next to comfy bed is the well equipped kitchen of the bungalows; love the fact that you can sit outside and cook outdoor or simply cut fruits/mix cocktails+hang in the hammac...dont forget to chitchat with the absolutely adorable owner Myry for some insider-tips: from where to eat local food, when to listen to great jazz live music or simply how to fight the mosquitoes... she knows its all! big hugs from tulipland!

We spent 6 days at La Rose du Brasil with 2 kids (9 and 3 years old) and we took the apartment "Nature". Everything was nice like to
be home. Also a washing machine was available. We didn't try the restaurant. The closest beach (petite anse) not walking distance but you need to have a car anyway in this wonderful peace of paradise.
In summary a nice place to stay

We wanted a week of rest, beach & sun away from the world - which is what we got!
A couple of things to note ahead of planning a stay at Marie Gallante: coordinating airline arrival in Pointe-a- Pietre with boat schedule to the island was not clear - boats stop going around 5 pm which meant two nights on the mainland (coming/going). Reserve ahead of time.
Once on the island - which is beautiful and quiet, we found we needed a car to get around and get groceries since only breakfast was available at La Rose which was a bit disappointing. Price for breakfast:12 EURO per person - a bit steep. The hotel with separate bungalows was nice - we stayed in AZUR. Renovations at the hotel were ongoing so, but we were not bothered much. Clean and private, wifi worked ok. Missed mosquito net on spare bed, daily clean towels. Beautiful beach across the road, lovely pool, helpful owner and staff.
Overall a great stay - will go again!

Sorry because I am late to reply to your beautiful notice which explains so well how it is not so easy to come to Marie-Galante and we hope that the air companies will choose others schedule of arrival time in the future to allow everebody to discover our beautiful island. Concerning the price of breakfast, I have to tell you that all food in Marie-Galante is expensive 60% more than France, as fruits and all milk products, bread and bakery as well and we do not win anything with 12 euro each. It is only a service for our customers who prefer not making them in their place which is equipped for. I hope to see you again. Thank you again to give your experience here.

Our stay (2 adults 3 kids) was wonderful! From letting us check out late from booking our scuba diving trip, I only have great things to remember! All the recommendations (beaches, sunset spot) were great and breakfast was great too.

We stayed 3 days mid December 2014, the Azul bungalow was prepared with baby bed. We had to fight with the mosquitos to keep them out, but that was quite difficult.
The kitchen outside on the terras was great with two mosquito spirals on, the micro wave worked fine for the baby milk.
We enjoyed the restaurant so much that we ate everyday there, simply amazing food european prices, baby chair and Brazilian live music on certain nights very tranquil, one guitar and singer.

We stayed 4 nights at this hotel in the Havane Bungalow. Everything was nice (the bungalow, A/C and wifi) and we really enjoyed our stay and the service at the hotel. Without some minor flaws this would be an excellent hotel. We had problem the first day with the drain in the shower that did not take away the water and found a flock of hair that restrained the water to drain off. The chest of drawers in the room had a strange smell so we did not use it. Otherwise we had everything we needed and really appreciated having the possibility to prepare our own meals and eat in the lovely veranda listening to the birds and the frogs.. Close to the beach and with a car you can explore the island.

We planned to stay only one night on Marie-Galante, but we loved the "La Rose du Bresil" so much, we decided to add another night. Our room was cozy, but not overly fancy. A/C was working perfectly. The sitting area in front of our room under a sky full with stars was our favourite place. The little swimming pool is also a nice feature. A marvelous beach is in walking distance (6 minutes), but be careful on the road! The staff of the restaurant was superfriendly and the food of our 2 dinners was extremley delicious. The only tiny drawback was, that the owner of the place did not allow us a late check-out (at about 3 p.m.) because allegedly the islands was "full of tourists" seeking for a shelter - well we must have been somewhere else, because the nice part of Marie-Galante is that you can have it mainly "for yourselves". We loved the island!

Good morning, Unfortunately, it will not be easy for you to stay in our beautiful island this time because there is no ferry departure from Pointe à Pitre to Marie-Galante after 5:15pm from monday to saturday and no return from Marie-Galante to Pointe à Pitre before 6:00 am so it is too late to catch your flight. You can visit Marie-Galante only for one day on friday from 8:15am to 4:00pm. Cordially, Myry

How close to the hotel is the beach? Is it near any other restaurants, grocery stores / town? Thank you.
Answer from Rob L
Oakland, California22 contributions9 helpful votes
there are a few beaches around the hotel depending on how far you want to drive. about 2 minute drive to the closest one. it is near between two towns (Grand-Bourg and Capesterre). closer to Capesterre which is the smaller of the two towns. the other major town is Saint-Louis which is the furthest town from the hotel. Further north than Grand-Bourg. the island is small enough where you can shop/eat in any of them.
