Maybe a perfect place for skiing, but nothing more to do in winter. we can't reach the amethyst mine because on Sunday it's closed. The food was good, the room has a sauna inside. Staff was really nice
We stayed 5 nights in this hotel. Very well situated (at 1h15 from the airport, at hundred meters from the ski station and very close to all entertainments) in a beautiful wild area. I was travelling with my two daughters, the room offered enough space for 3 and was equipped with its own sauna. It was very clean, comfortable and quiet! We enjoyed our stay, all the more that the staff was awesome, super friendly and very kind. Whereas the reception was not opening before 8am, the staff showed up at 6:30am the day we were leaving just to make sure everything was okay and the taxi we ordered was there ! I really appreciate this kind attention. Breakfast was delicious and the Restaurant outstanding. One of my daughter is vegan, the chief offered different meals to accomodate her diet. This was wonderful vacations in a great place, if I ever go to Luosto again, I will surely look to stay in this hotel again!…
I originally booked at Santa's Igloos Arctic Circle. But due to low season, there was no staff or breakfast there so I requested to re-book us to Santa's Hotel Aurora in Luosto. Staff were very nice and tried to solve our requests. The igloo room is definitely some experience, but you can't really expect to see aurora from the room. There are too many lights around the igloos. Unless the aurora is very strong, you won't be able to see it due to the light pollution. It is better that you go outdoor to find the aurora. The price is high if you aim at seeing the aurora, otherwise it is a nice room with good facilities and decoration.
We had a wonderful weekend in Santa's Aurora. The room was great with our own sauna and fireplace. The best part was definitely the staff and the food.Nothing bad to say, would recommend to anyone! Thank you Aurora and the staff 😍
This nice little hotel is located perfectly by the Luosto mountain. Every hotel room has A sauna and some has even fireplace. One night in the iglu was great, unfortunately it was mostly cloudy. There is free application for northern light alarm. Recommended. Fall is so nice here. There is also amethyst mine around, the largest and only in Europe.
We stayed in the Igloo room for our honeymoon for two nights. It was completely magical. Nothing we have experienced before. To be clear, it’s not a five star hotel, you’re paying this price for the location, experience and view. The room is small but cozy and has all the basic necessities. The staff is very friendly, the restaurant feels like it’s straight out of a Christmas film. The food and drinks are amazing too. We highly recommend choosing Santa’s Hotel Aurora if you’re confused between various hotels with igloo rooms (like we were). Luosto is easily accessible from Rovaniemi and it’s a beautiful town.
Excellent hotel, great staff and very nice food. Would We had a glass igloo on our first night and then we had a further 3 nights in a premier room with Sauna in the main Hotel. Room was spacious and clean and would definitely recommend going here
We came in Dec 2019 for our honeymoon and he hotel gifted us a little glass elf. Since we've gotten it we take it everywhere! We spent money on extra alcohol and gifts because this hotel was so awesome. Our room had its own sauna and the staff had no qualms about me being heavily tattooed and running outside to jump in the snow after the sauna, like a true Finn, they laughed. We didn't cause any disturbances and didn't run through the lobby, but in other places my tattoos have been an issue. Our server for dinner was Maria and she was by far one of the coolest and down to earth servers we had while in Finland. She talked to us about her Sami heritage and recommended some dishes. On to the hotel itself, breakfast was included and there was a wide variety to choose from. Walls weren't thin, beds were comfortable. TV was a bit far away but we didn't use it. The hotel itself great Christmas decor in the lobby and room. The lobby even had some chairs and board games by the fire for the cold blooded. Lots of info on the bulletin board in the lobby as well. But the staff are what made this for us. If Maria wouldn't have been our server it would've still been a great experience but she really took it over the top for us.…
My husband and I have never been up this far in the world so everything was a shock. I read a few reviews on what to pack for the weather and that helped a lot (winter jackets, sweaters, woolen thermal pants and tops, wool socks, mittens, balaclava, hats, gloves, snow boots). The closest airport to the hotel is Rovaniemi, about 1 1/2 hours away. It’s true the ski bus runs on certain hours during the day and I was lucky to get there right before its scheduled departure time and it’s €28 a person one way. To get the schedule, google Rovaniemi public transport, and some search results will lead you to it. Finnair also offers transportation services for a fee, I saw it was about €350 for two round trip, and lastly there are taxis outside the airport that charge €200 per one way. Obviously, the ski bus is the most economical way so it may be a good idea to coordinate your flight arrival time and departure with the bus schedule. As far as the hotel goes, the lobby was beautiful, and our rooms were comfortable and clean. We stayed in the sauna room for three nights and the glass igloos for two. The sauna room was very basic and dark but the sauna made up for that. The room was centrally heated from outside somewhere, since there was no thermostat in the room. But there were some type of heaters in the room that took a loooong time to just get warm to the touch and nothing more so that didn’t work for this California girl. So I asked the front desk for a portable heater and they gladly delivered it to our room in no time. That helped a lot for the bedroom but the living room was still a little cold but it was better than nothing. I’m assuming the rooms above ours were ones with fireplaces because we could smell smoke on some days and that was uncomfortable. The television worked for two days then nothing for the remainder of our stay. The glass igloos, however, were fabulous! They don’t have a sauna but in addition to having a thermostat in the room, they also have glass heating so they were nice and toasty with amazing views. A reviewer mentioned their lack of privacy but that’s not true. They have dark curtains which you could pull to cover the glass windows and obviously the ceiling doesn’t have curtains but no one is up there looking at you. And being winter, the sun didn’t rise until 10am so light interference was not an issue when we were asleep. The hotel provides free breakfast until 10 am which was ok but we enjoyed their dinner better. If you’d like to try reindeer steak, order one plate and try it first instead of ordering all at once because they’ll charge you for it if you don’t like it and would prefer another dinner option. To me, the reindeer tasted like liver and I had to take it back after one bite. Their reindeer soup on the other hand was delicious. Because the menu doesn’t change, it could get a little redundant if you’re staying longer than three nights but there’re other dining options within walking distance; the Puna Ketu which opens at 1 pm and the bistro in Lapland hotel Luostotunturi (not sure what time they open) both offered tasty options. There’s a gift shop in the hotel lobby and another one a few blocks down the street with better prices and more options. As far as activities, there are various activity shops around the hotel from which to choose. We went with Lapland safaris down the street and they also have a website from which you could pick your location (Luosto), the season you’ll be visiting and then pick and pay for your activities. I’ll review them on their page. There’s also a ski slope over the bridge which you could utilize for €7 per person and children could participate in sledding there too on a different slope. Because our main objective of traveling all the way here was the northern lights, it was disappointing we didn’t get to see them due to cloudy weather. Its true that there’s a lake behind Lapland hotel Luostotunturi where you could see them for free, if you’re lucky, without having to pay for a tour. We almost paid for a tour by car with “Kairankutsu” company (over by the bridge near the hotel) but the gentleman was not too sure whether it was possible to see them that night so we didn’t book it. We went down to the lake and we got a faint glimpse underneath the clouds and I know we would’ve seen them had the sky been clear. My advice is to check the weather once you get there, download aurora alert (we had two different ones) and go to the lake when the possibility to see them is high because sometimes the apps will not alert you. All in all, we had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Thank you to the wonderful staff for making our first visit to Finland a memorable one.…
We often spoke about our visit to this little hotel and how much we enjoyed it. People say that returning to a place is a mistake as it does not live up to the previous visit but we can honestly say it was even better than before, and the new chef has improved the menu considerably. The staff are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble. A sauna in the bathroom and log burner in the bedroom adds to the Scandinavian atmosphere. There are plenty of snow-related activities nearby to fill your days. We rarely go back twice but we might make it a third time in the near future!
