I normally review every site I have been to for the purpose of being helpful to other campers and for valuable feedback to improve and maintain service levels for campsites owners.

It would be unfair for me to comment on toilets or shower facilities on this site as they were not open due to COVID-19 restrictions.

I booked 3 pitches for 2 and 3 nights at usual going rate for my sister, brother and myself (2 touring caravans and 1 campervan) all arriving at different times, so Jim very kindly arranged that pitches was reserved so we were together which was nice of him. Initially they were reluctant to take a group but when I reassured them we are 3 families and want to make the most of local attractions and pubs for eating out. Like most sites it has a curfew so it’s quiet which is respectful. So if it a party you are after this is not for you.

Margaret and Jim were very nice to deal with and were very welcoming when we arrived. I received an email prior to arriving with useful numbers for business in the village and local attractions which we ending up visiting Wicklow Gaol (Wicklow Jail) which was amazing and we booked two local pubs for food.

The site is very well maintained with tarmac roads throughout leading to most hard standing pitches with generous grass areas. Parts of the site is on a slight hill so nothing a set of chocks can’t sort. The site is a few minutes walk to the lovely village of Roundwood which have plenty of pubs takeaway and shop. There are lovely popular walks that will take you by the lake.

Pros
The site is within walking distance to pubs, takeaways, shops.
Pitches a good size with plenty of room for awning.
Although we had rain, it wasn’t muddy
Great well maintained adequate playground for small kids
Security barrier at entrance with reception area armed with great staff and all information on local attractions.
Situated in The Garden of Ireland with the likes of Glendalough and Powerscourt only a short drive away not least but to name a few.
A site you could base yourself from and visit Dublin City too.

Cons
They only open until early September which is a shame as it would be a great place to spend a winter weekend away which is not too far away from the busy bright lights of Dublin.
The pitches don’t have their own waste and fresh water tap so you are sharing taps dotted around the site which is not a showstopper! This is the only reason that would prevent a 5 star rating and maybe paying for shower if facilities were open which is one of my pet hates on any campsite.

I really struggled to come up with cons for this site as it has a lot to offer. I will certainly be back if Jim & Margaret has me! This gem of a site is a great asset to Roundwood and it will be on my top list of recommendations to friends and family.

My son (9) and I stayed for two nights in our tent and had a great stay. The site is quiet and suited to people who are looking for a calm, quiet stay. There is a small playground that wasn't busy and children had generally headed for their tents & campers well before the park's 10pm quiet time. The park is definitely suited to families who are happy to embrace that rule.

The showers are token operated (€1 - tokens on sale in the office) and the toilets are clean. There is a fridge & freezer in the campers room and covered wash up sinks outside. There is no kettle in the campers room so we used our small gas cooker & kettle. Having said that, the owner was quick to offer a loan of a kettle if we needed one. Bringing our own suited just fine. We had electricity near our tent which we accessed via our long cable.

The pitch was clean, well spaced out and very quiet apart from some road noise which didn't cause any bother.

The owner was extremely helpful in giving us tips and directions to local amenities and things worth visiting.

We ate in pubs locally and really enjoyed spending time in Enniskerry around 20 mins away.

All in all, we certainly plan to return in the near future.

We are 2 couples and we stayed for 1 night in 2 motorhomes at short noticehaving travelled up from the Glen of Aherlow on a busy bank holiday weekend. We were met by the owner who was very welcoming and took the time to have a long chat with us. We were shown to our pitches which was perfect on the manucured grass with water and EHU. The location is great and just on the entrance to Roundwood village which is beautiful with lots of bars shops chinese great bakery and butchers. Great for walks and cycling. Sorry we couldn't stay longer, but will definetly return many times in the future. Highly recommended.

Just back from a camping trip with my family and I definitely will not return to this site! On the first night we put a log onto our bbq for the children to toast some marshmallows and the guy came round to us on his scooter and told us all off as though we were in school advising we had all been given slips stating no camp fires, we thought this was ok as it was on a bbq and because it states on the website there is bbq stations and fire points but when I explained that he told me no and left then came back with another slip for me to read but couldn’t point out the said fire points. There is a communal hall for guests and we were in there playing a card game on the second night as it was raining quite badly and he came in at 11:03 kicking us all out as it’s ‘strictly doors looks and lights out by 11pm’ we had to then leave our things there i.e kettle and bags of food then come the morning we had to wait on him opening the room again and as there is 2 children under the age of 1 they where crying for their bottles which was left in that room as we weren’t given time to lift everything. I also felt it was ridiculous that it mentions on their website they have top of the range showers and toilets as you have to pay €1 for a token to use the shower!! Not only that the token only lasts for 5 minutes which for me personally is not enough time. I also brought my own hairdryer and after someone used their hairdryer in the communal room there was a sign put up within 30 mins to say you weren’t allowed to do this to make sure you PAY to use their hairdryers. As you are already paying for the services on this facility surely it is your basic human right to have access to all facilities on the site especially the showers. There is absolutely nothing to do on site either and the ‘park’ that is mentioned on their website is 2 swings and a slide which you are only allowed on to during certain times of the day. I would highly recommend staying elsewhere as this was a complete let down and we where all extremely disappointed with our experience

Just back from a 2 week stay in this campsite with a caravan and awning. We travelled with other families (with and without kids) so had a few spots together near the back. With regards space, the areas are very spacious which came in handy as we have 2x dogs. It also allowed us to park 2x cars at the front and back. Handy!

The general surroundings for us were excellent and we're exactly what we were looking for. There are places such as Clara Lara, Glendalough, Secret Waterfall, Glenmalure, Powerscourt etc all within ~20mins drive which is great. The town itself is also very attractive as it has a few gastro pubs (Coach House gets No. 1 spot by a long shot!) with a great butchers (!!), chipper, Chinese etc, all only a 5min stroll from the campsite which is handy.

Re the site itself, very well run by a very pleasant family. Jim (main man on the scooter 🙂) and his wife (I didn't catch her name sorry!) are lovely but take no messing which, for me, is great for a family site. It's noise down by 10pm and is pretty strictly enforced. Personally, I think this is great as many people flock to campsites for this and its a rarity in many of today's sites. So, if you're a family or some guests looking for a relaxing camping experience then this is this is you. If you're chasing a few late party nights on site, there are other sites in Wicklow to better serve your needs.

Amenities on the site are very good. The playground is really nice for the kids and they have plenty of space to run around between hedges etc. We personally spent an hour in the morning many days fitness training on the grass where there was plenty of room. Water is pretty close to the pitches and electricity hook ups are at every pitch.

All in all, we're now looking at this as our 'go to' spot as we're only ~1.5hrs drive from Meath and its well worth the spin. Hope this helps anyone travelling.

The campsite was very quiet with only 5 or so pitches booked. Facilities were clean with €1 token needed for the shower - my husband’s shower didn’t work on the first day but that was the only issue. Check in was quick. Wifi worked well and was included in the price.

Roundwood is a very nice village with several shops, bars and restaurants - only 5 minutes walk. Also bus from the village to Glendalough is only €2.

I stayed here with a group of friends for two nights and it's honestly one of the best run campsites I've been to. The amenities are well kept and very clean the showers are run on tokens which cost 1 euro per token for 5 mins and they were immaculately kept. The site itself is really well laid out with tarmac roads, lots of power points, BBQ areas with water taps throughout and high evergreen hedges offering plenty of cover where ever you are pitched. There's even a playground for kids and plenty of room for them to ride bikes and karts and play ball ect. I brought my motorcycle on a trailer and had to pay extra which was fine as I hadn't seen on the website that it was the case but the owner Jim showed me a safe gated corner to leave my trailer for the 2 nights so it was well worth bringing as I had a fantastic trip around the surrounding areas which are of incredible natural beauty. I will be staying here again and recommend to anyone.

So I’ll start with booking the trip
A few weeks back I called when I booked as I was having trouble with payment link. when I called my first experience with the man on the phone Jim the owner was very unpleasant when I mentioned one of the 3 adults I booked was myself my partner and my son as he’s 17 along with my two younger daughters upon hearing this
He proceeded to tell me there was nothing in roundwood for teenagers nothing for 17 year olds,,, repeating it many times I said not to worry my son was just looking to spend time with us, and we had things planned like Clara lara,, he then went on to tell me Clara Lara didn’t allow 17 year olds not his concern whatsoever and a very bizarre thing to say. Went ahead with booking as was last min trip
And only place available was here in
Hindsight I’m not one bit suprised by this now the only place to actually have availability, at such short notice. On arrival then I met by the famous jim who on speaking to myself and our friends travelling with there children out of
Nowhere tents only being pitched told us if there was any disruptions or upset the guards would be called and we would be made leave this came from nowhere within
10 mins of meeting the man, we let him no how upset we where by these rude remarks and never spoke to the man for the two days we where there. As we had planned on spending a lot time out with activities and having dinner thank god as it meant we didn’t need to see such a rude man more than maybe once a day in passing. Camp area was fine fairly over crowded with Tents very close to each othe. And toilets and shower area filthy dirty not cleaned properly or regularly I would never return and wouldn’t recommend this campsite to anyone. Found it hard to rate the place at all

just back form a lovely few days in Roundwood. The site is very clean and tidy. the showers and toilet facilities were spotless. the showers were long, hot and powerful. A real great place for a family to base themselves . It really is a short stroll to the village to the well stocked centra shop/ backery-cafe/takeaway etc as well as a number of pubs( not visited). We received a warm welcome and any queries we had about the local area , what to do where to go etc were sorted with a chat to the owner Jim a real genuine charachter and nice guy. will definitely be back

Given the publicity material, I had high expectations but quickly became unimpressed. Personal preferences and time of year will be critical - as always. The site is fairly close to Dublin and various places of interest in the Wicklow Hills. Buses run infrequently from the village which has some decent pubs but little else. There were around 70 units when we visited - say 150 adults. The site was full or not far off. The men's toilet block has three showers and three toilet cubicles which are inadequate given the number of guests. Nearby are grey water and toilet cassette disposal points which means a lengthy walk from the far end of the site. Grey water disposal requires lifting a heavy manhole cover. The facilities were reasonably clean but dated. However waste bins were overflowing. Some hardstanding pitches were cramped. Various stern notices were distributed around the site but in spite of these large groups of children were playing football and generally being noisy until 10.00pm. To me the site is three star and therefore very pricey. Overall, from our visit in July, no better than average.

When we booked I sent an e-mail which I got back like your self booking confirmed.. so we journeyed up and booked in without out any problem..you assume when you took the time out to book in advance that you would be accommodated, which would also be disappointing when arrived that's there was No space.. has not ever happened to us as yet but it's an eye opener now..just to let you know as well we have just returned from Eagle point caravan park down in west cork.. it's amazing place and so clean if ever you get the chance .. regards Trevor

Yes, the park is very suitable for children. We have a playgroung on site and there is a beautiful "Slí na Sláinte" lake walk beside the park. Clara Lara Childrens Funpark is a 15minute drive from the park.
