The view from Lough Bawn House looking out over Lough Bane and the parkland dotted with sheep and cattle, is a must see location. Verity's home cooked food which includes vegetables and fruit from her own garden is one of the reasons we must return again.
We stayed in Lough Bawn for two nights in July 2022 while attending a nearby wedding. Other than Verity’s family, we were the only guests and were treated to an exceptional stay by a truly wonderful host. The setting is absolutely magnificent with stunning and uninterrupted views over the lake. The gardens are also beautiful. On arrival, we were treated to some lovely lemon drizzle cake and tea in the drawing room. Our bedroom overlooked the lake and was beautifully and uniquely furnished. We were lucky enough to be able to have dinner in Lough Bawn on our first night which was excellent. Breakfast on both mornings was also delicious. Verity and her family are brilliant hosts - we couldn’t recommend Lough Bawn highly enough.
An excellent accommodation choice in a quiet part of Westmeath. Very comfortable room. Friendly and efficient service. A great breakfast. The highlight is the setting: looking over Lough Bane, with amazing views, especially at sunset. It is the perfect place to spend a couple of relaxing days, hidden away from the world. Recommended.
From the moment we arrived Verity made us feel at home. Afternoon tea on arrival - spotless comfortable room with beautiful views of Lough Bane from the windows. Wonderful home cooked food for dinner and breakfast and Verity's local knowledge made for a wonderful stay. Pity we could only stay for 1 night but will definitely be back for a longer stay the next time.
I brought my husband here as a surprise for his birthday and we had a gorgeous time:) Beautiful house and gardens with stunning views, luxury bedroom, the best lake swim I think I've ever had, and a delicious dinner and breakfast the next morning, including food picked right there in the organic gardens. Thank you so much, Verity. The very best of Irish hospitality.
Verity deserves high praise for her hospitality. We spent three days here with our boys and loved every minute, it's a very special property with a wonderful hostess. Truly remarkable Irish hospitality. Did I mention the blueberry pancakes?
We had a truly wonderful time staying at Lough Bawn House for a week. The moment we got out of the car we were made to feel welcome by our lovely hostess Verity. The room and house are beautifully decorated and well cared for. The bed was extremely comfortable and the views of the garden, the lake and surrounding land simply stunning. We will miss the walks as well as the swims in the crystal clear water of the lake. Verity has a great knowledge of interesting places to explore in the area. She is an incredibly talented woman. Her attention to detail, gardening and culinary skills are outstanding. It is well worth staying here for longer to try out all the different breakfasts she has to offer! Her homemade granola is the best we have ever eaten and it was such a joy to sit down to a delicious and healthy homecooked meal in the evenings. Everything we could have wished for for a relaxing holiday.…
Wonderful host Verity and beautiful house with delicious food set in its own extensive grounds with beautiful view of the lake. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious with views of the lake. A warm welcome and great to see the peacock showing full display of feathers. An ideal location to explore the surrounding sights of Fore Abbey and Loughcrew estate and gardens. We will definitely return again and I highly recommend a stay at Lough Bawn House.
Having had a wonderful, relaxing break at Lough Bawn House a few years ago, my wife and I were detemined that, as soon as restrictions on travel in Ireland were lifted, we would pay a return visit for some overdue R and R. Based on our previous experience, our expectations were high and we were not disappointed. The elegant comfort of the house, the beauty and tranquillity of its setting and Verity's friendly and discreet hospitality and fine culinary skills are as special as ever. We took in very enjoyable and interesting visits to Belvedere House, the Lough Crew megalithic site, Fore Abbey and Tullynally Castle, which are all within easy reach of Lough Bawn. It was another most restful and pleasant stay in Verity's lovely home and we came away refreshed and recharged.
In August, we went on a last-minute break to Dublin via Co. Westmeath. I love to stay in Hidden Ireland houses and we were really lucky to find Lough Bawn House. Verity is a warm friendly hostess and we instantly felt relaxed and happy. The weather was not on our side, but after a nice relax in our room Verity served a most delicious meal accompanied by a soothing bottle of red. After dinner the children had a lovely evening watching movies and treats. Breakfast was superb with delicious brown bread and kippers one of the children had a full Irish. There was local organic milk which was so delicious with Verity's homemade granola. We stayed 2 nights and had yet another delicious roast dinner with wine. Sight seeing in the rain the following day was fascinating. Very beautiful countryside. On our return we were treated to yet another yummy hot roast dinner which warmed the cockles of our hearts. Then a surprise dessert arrived , a secret family recipe! After two restful days we continued on our journey to Dublin happy and rested. We hope to return again as Verity is the heart and soul of this classic house. Thank you Verity, xfrom Máire Séamus & Tess…
