A group of us stayed here after cycling from Waterford to Dungarvan down the Greenway then over the Knockmealdown mountains finishing in Clogheen. The hostel is a historic building that has been completely refurbished throughout to create a stylish and functional building while being careful to retain the character of an older house. Overall standard is very high but particular highlights for me were a very nice kitchen and dining area plus large lounge with woodburning stove, couches etc. Wet room showers and bathroom areas were very pleasant as well after a long ride. The owner has invested a lot of time and attention to detail and it shows. Highly recommended.
Myself and my friends stayed here for the weekend in June, while we went running in the Galtees. The hostel suited our needs perfectly. It was clean and spacious and the hostel owner was extremely friendly and accommodating. I would recommend this hostel to anyone. Rachel
Just back from a family weekend in The Sallows and we all had an amazing time from old (79) to young (5). Amazing work has been carried out on this building with so much thought and love put into ensuring a comfortable and homely vibe. The space is great for all eating together (there was 14 of us) and plenty of space for games after. We had a lovely walk down by the river and the kids had stick races!!!! The beds were so comfy even the youngest had a lie-in!! There was a roaring fire and the place was lovely and warm when we got there and we got some great local knowledge from Gerry. I can't recommend this place enough, amazing doesn't even describe it.
One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in. Beautifully restored building converted in to a stylish and functional hostel. Our group of 20 thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend to anyone heading to that part of the country or looking for a place for a large group to get away to.
I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Sallows. Its located in the heart of the Golden Vale surrounded by the picturesque scenery of the Vee Valley and the knockmealdown mountains. The rooms were spotless, warm, comforable and spacious and the decor and surrounding. helped add to the tranquil and relaxing atmosphere. This is ideal accommodations for families and groups. **Would highly reccomend to anyone looking for a quiet getaway** Anne
A group of 20 of us stayed here for the Easter weekend and had a great time in the beautifully restored eco-conscious hostel. Gary and his family have done a great job in creating a destination that is kind to the planet without scrimping on the comforts. Easily the best hostel I have ever stayed in and there's even a ping pong table which kept the group entertained for hours. I would recommend this to any groups wanting to explore the surrounding area. We'll be back for sure.
A group of us stayed in The Sallows this weekend and I couldn’t recommend the place enough! When we checked in the stove was lit for us and the place was spotless and had a very homely feel to it. We had the games room to play table tennis and the kitchen is kitted out with everything you could possibly need. The attention to detail that was put into all aspects of the property was hard to miss. The beds were class and the communication with staff and the booking was seamless. We will certainly be back and I couldn’t recommend The Sallows enough. Thanks for a great weekend! place enough! Myself and my Fiancee stayed at the Sallows on Saturday night and had a brilliant experience. I have stayed in plenty of hostels over the years and this was definitely one of the nicest. Very clean and cosy, and the beds were very comfortable, we loved the art work and photographs and we especially loved the wood stove in the living room which Gary kindly had prepared for us. Gary is a great host and is very passionate about the local area and the restoration of old buildings, it was brilliant to learn a few things about the local area and the conservation work gone in to the building. Gary went to great lengths to provide modern luxuries in an old Irish home without tearing flooring and walls apart in the process. It is also a very eco friendly hostel and it was great to get a few tips about this. There are plenty of walking trails close by, you also have the Mitchelstown caves, Ballyhoura mountain biking trails and plenty of castles to go view too. If you want to see the midlands or Munster Vales this is the location to stay.…
Family home that has been lovingly designed for groups of travelers. Art work and photography is very interesting. Off season, so we were alone with the host. Washer available. Grocery store within walking distance and all utensils are provided. Grocery store can make a lunch for hiking trips that are close by. Fun pub also within walking distance. Clean communal bathrooms with sinks with the toilet, which were very small and cumbersome to use. Good advice from host for hiking trails.
Going back after 40 years to spend a night in our old Family home was a fantastic, warm and fun experience thanks to the amazing renovation GARRY has done on this house.Even though it was a beautiful house to grow up in, it was typical of an old house of the last century, big cold dark rooms, smallish windows in the kitchen where we spent most of our days as Kids. Now through Garry's vision, this home has been transformed into a light, bright, open and warm inviting spaces with lighted stoves in the main reception areas, glass doors in all the main rooms leading you out into the walled gardens and the Sallows stream at the side of the house.A perfect place to relax with a glass of wine and good book. This is a place where you check in , relax and don't want to leave.Perfect for family gatherings,Birthday parties, and re-unions. If you do feel guilty that you are not doing enough during your stay you are surrounded by beautiful Mountains for forest walks, rivers for fishing,or kayaking, and historically you are centrally located to explore the enchanting Castles of Lismore,Rock of Cashel and Cahir castle.Golf courses close by also. Only one hour from Cork Airport, the cities of Limerick,Cork,Kilkenny, waterford, only one hour drive away.Well done to GARRY and Family and many years of success in The Sallows.…
