We stayed in the Hotel Lodges the weekend of the 23rd of September and to say we were disappointed is understatement. While the bones of these lodges are good and they are very spacious that's where the positives stop. The smell that hits you when you walk is very strong and over powering and worst in the kitchen it seems to be a combination of damp and stale smoke. The decor is tired and jaded and looks institutional. Mirrors and light fittings are the most basic. There are very few soft furnishing like rugs or vases etc, several of the floor lights had bulbs that did not work and this makes the Lodges feel very cold. We could hear mice in the walls at night as we tried to sleep and my sister had to be moved from her lodge when a mouse ran across her foot. The Lodge next to us was covered in a tarp as it was being renovated, but was covered in bright Pink Graffiti . The Tarp rattled in the wind all night keeping one of our party awake all night. 30 minutes before our 11am check out, cleaners knocked on the door to see if they could come in. We were still packing and said no, so they stood folder arms out side the window waiting for us to leave. I complained at the front desk as we were leaving and the young lady simply shrugged her solders, put her bottom lip pout and said "Sorry" and that was the extent of their response to us. No doubt the hotel will reply to this saying that they are renovating the lodges, this does not excuse the condition of the accommodation they gave paying guests. Additionally the hotel pool was nearly always full with local children and families and has a large glass wall as a viewing gallery that is always filled with parents, so hardly acts as the relaxing spa that this hotel presents itself as. very disappointing. On a positive note, The Bar, restaurants and lobby of the hotel are of a good standard and they cater for vegetarians.…
Cannot thank Tamara and team enough for a wonderful experience having our wedding at The Johnstown Estate, everything was perfect. The food here is incredible, everyone was raving about the lamb. Amazing experience everytime we stay, the hotel offers everything you could want. The Thermal Spa experience is out of this world and the Coach House bar is great for a pint. We'll be back and I know many of our wedding guests will too. The perfect venue.
Had a lovely meal in Fire and Salt on Friday night. The food, in particular the pork belly and steak, was gorgeous, and cocktails were amazing. Big thank you to Agatha, Aziz, Deniz, and Megan for really making the night!
When we arrived at the hotel I was so excited, the setting is beautiful and the reception was so welcoming. Once you go through to the next lounge area it is bright and wonderful. As our room wasn't ready we went to the bar to have lunch. However, that was our 1st disappointment. The bar was really dark and felt very old fashioned. The waitress was very friendly but the food itself was average. Club sandwich with soggy bread it not ideal. Once our room was ready we popped down and it was beautiful. Gorgeous colour scheme and very tasteful. It was a twin room but I was surprised to see 2 single beds. Usually they are double beds. The bathroom however, looked like it hasn't been decorated in many years and the handle on the toilet was broken. The handle on the door looked like someone had tried to fix it and then painted over it with tippex. It just looked terrible. The biggest problem we had was there is no soundproofing in the room at all. We could hear every sound from the corridor and the rooms beside of us. Unfortunately, there was wedding on and we could hear the music from across the garden which really didn't help us have a good night sleep. Dinner was good, but don't understand why we got a pot butter covered potatoes and overcooked vegetables with the mains. It is very wasteful. Perhaps would have been better if they asked if we wanted them. Breakfast was a good buffet. The best part of this hotel is the amazing rooftop spa. It is beautifully designed and has so many different choices, hydrotherapy pool, hot tub, tropical shower experience, sauna, steam room and more. Definitely can't recommend this highly enough. We also had wonderful massages - Kasia was an amazing therapist and would certainly suggest you ask for her. Overall, a fabulous place that needs some upgrades to make it 5 star.…
I attended a wedding at the estate and stayed 1 night, to wake up to the beautiful spa with many facilities. The outdoor spa and hammocks were the best way to relax! The facilities were great; spa, steam, sauna, pool, hot lounge and a fully equipped gym! Would recommend for weekend away, or go an extra day before a wedding to enjoy the spa. Thanks to the friendly staff.
We recently had a corporate event in Johnstown House and I cannot speak highly enough of this hotel and the entire team! At every turn the exceptional staff across the board were warm, helpful, personable and calm in the face of a lot of changes and challenges we presented - nothing was too much trouble and the event went off without a hitch! Our employees had such a comfortable stay and the food was fabulous also! Plus it's a stones throw from the motorway and so easy to get to! We'll absolutely be back!
Beautiful experience.. We were impressed the moment we entered the hotel reception area. Like the old castle it is.. a wonderful welcome, clean and well maintained. We will definitely plan to visit again soon. Thanks for a lovely trip. Irish hospitality at its nicest and best. We had an easily accessible room on the ground floor (111). They say you can judge a hotel by the Breakfast…. Well this was just perfect for anyone.. They seem to have anything you could possible want for breakfast..
Exceptional staff and facilities experienced during my sons wedding in Sept. The attentiveness of the staff was particularly noticeable. This clearly is a quality destination and would highly recommend from an afternoon tea to a full reception
We arrived for a three night stay before back to school. The perfect situation for touring around Dublin without been in the city. Beautiful rooms and all spotless. Second time to stay here and it doesn't disappoint. Beautiful food in the Salt and Fire restaurant and also in the bar. We were to have a picnic on one of our days, but as they " don't have any one to make them before 12 noon" which we found hard to believe in a 4 star hotel anyway we never got to avail of it as we were out and about on our day trips after a fab breakfast. Maybe some thought should be put into this as who wants to stay around till 12 noon when your wanting to go out for the day. Over all we had a lovely relaxed stay, for breakfast time in the mornings maybe change the toast machine as everyone is queuing for the hot buffet and can't get in to do their toast.. staff extremely polite and pleasant. …
I went to the Johnstown Estate for lunch with a friend this afternoon. We both ordered the chicken Caesar wrap. I got a terrible taste off mine, like there were fish fingers in it and not chicken. I complained to the waitress and, after she checked with the kitchen, she told me that there is anchovy paste in the dressing. Gross!! She said it’s on the list of allergies. I’m not allergic to any foodstuffs so I would never have checked for fish on that list. Avoid the chicken Caesar if you’re not a fan of fish 👎
