We stayed here at the weekend for 2 nights in a family room on a B&B and Dinner basis. There were 3 adults and 1 child staying in the family room which was a great size, the setup consisted of 1 king bed and 2 single beds so there was ample space for us all. My issue with the beds was that the mattresses were very hard and uncomfortable. I literally did not sleep the first night because of the mattress. The next morning I went to reception and spoke to the lovely and very helpful Alvina, she arranged for a new bed to be installed, but sadly the mattress was still very firm and my husband and myself still did not sleep very well. The staff at this hotel make it such an enjoyable stay, always smiling, helpful and very efficient in taking orders for food and the bar. I cannot fault the hotel Spa, Emma and Josephine were fantastic and we all felt super relaxed after our treatments. The breakfast staff were relaxed and very efficient in keeping the queues moving and breakfast itself was lovely. We went to the hotels restaurant for dinner and again all the staff were friendly and efficient and the food was amazing. On our final day we had arranged a picnic basket to take away with us and all I can say is WOW, the salads, sandwiches, desserts, crisps and drinks were fantastic and we ate like kings. All in all I would definitely return to this beautiful hotel because the staff and food made up for the uncomfortable bed.

Dear mojo281069, Thank you for choosing the Johnstown Estate for your recent family break away. It is a real pleasure to read that after the initial issue with the mattress in the bedroom that our team in particular Alina were able to create a memorable experience. Indeed our 'Staycation' 3 night package which includes the picnic has proved most popular with our valued guests. Thank you again for your custom and we do hope to welcome back again in the future. Yours Sincerely Paul Gaynor Rooms Division Manager

Stayed as a couple for one night this week and can highly recommend this hotel. Felt extremely safe from check-in through to departure. Plenty of hand sanitizer around the hotel and temperature check on arrival.

Paul on reception was very courteous and helpful, and we were very quickly put at ease. We booked a room in the bar for a meal, and were happy to see all staff wearing visors. Food was excellent also.

Breakfast very well organised (booked a time slot) so only a certain number of people allowed in at one time.

Would love to return and will do so in the future.

Stayed for one night with my partner, upon arrival our room was not available, had lunch in the Coach bar, the girl at front of house was a bit rude, but nothing major, food was lovely but portions were quite small considering the price. Found it difficult to get staffs attention at times. Went back an hour later and our room still wasn’t ready, Victor ( I think was his name) at the front desk was a pleasure to deal with, very apologetic and offered us a complimentary late check out to make up for this, appreciated it! However, our room had to be switched as our original still wasn’t ready and I feel we didn’t get the full experience, I saw all other guests with robes and slippers which we didn’t have in our room. The room itself however was immaculate, very modern and spacious. Worth the price. We also had dinner in the Coach bar, we sat upstairs this time which was very cosy and we much preferred it to downstairs, two girls working were young with dark hair and were very friendly, always available and quick to bring anything we had requested e.g., food, cocktail menus etc. Was slightly disappointed with the price of the food, I ordered a plain burger which cost €18, overpriced for the portion size, the same with the dessert, €8 for a brownie which was quite small. The pool area was fabulous, lovely outdoor area with hammocks and couches to sit on, kept very clean, the outdoor hot tub was perfect temperature and the same for the indoor pool, it was large enough for all guests to enjoy it socially distanced. Breakfast was also very well run, I didn’t catch names but all staff were friendly and went out of their way to help you. There was a great variety and I enjoyed the buffet self serve style as other hotels have not been offering this since covid. The food was excellent quality. Checked out after this and the reception staff once again were lovely. Really enjoyed our stay and the hotel is great value for money but the downfalls were overpriced small portions and the room situation. Thank you to all staff who made our stay enjoyable :)

We chose to have our After-Lockdown Family Reunion combined my sisters Baby Shower at the Johnstown House recently. The estate has a lovely driveway with plenty of parking spaces.
From the moment we entered Johnstown House our every need was catered for. We met with our receptionist who explained everything we needed to know, including all of the new measures in place due to Covid-19. He very kindly took our booking for dinner that evening and for breakfast the following morning. (The options were three timed sittings for breakfast to ensure social distancing throughout).
Our receptionist directed us towards the fabulous Lodges on the hotel grounds, which is where we gathered to catch up with family that we hadn’t seen in months. The Lodges were immaculately cleaned, equipped for all of our needs and the decor was just fab. I particularly loved the dark green soft couches!
We could not have asked for more comfortable surroundings for our gathering.
The Lodges even had champagne glasses 🥂 which we drank our fizzy apple juice in ( non-alcoholic as it was also a baby shower ;)
We had dinner in the restaurant that evening. The waiters & waitresses couldn’t have been more attentive . They wore visors but otherwise created a very relaxed atmosphere for all the guests. They made sure we all had glasses of water straight away plus whatever other drinks we wanted. Our food arrived very promptly. Each one of us really enjoyed our dinner. I had yummy chicken wings for starter and prawns for main course. I’d highly recommend both ! Before finishing dinner the restaurant manger walked around to make sure all guests were being looked after, including ourselves.
As we were leaving, the staff in our path smiled and thanked us for visiting. We were very glad to have eaten in the Johnstown House restaurant.
Our bedrooms at the Lodge were so cosy and the bathrooms had everything we needed.
Breakfast in the morning was served to us. There was lots of variety on the menu and the food was so fresh and tasty. Although we had booked in for the 10am sitting, there was a table ready for us and we felt we had plenty of time to enjoy our breakfast.
We would highly recommend the Johnstown House for any couple or family looking for a relaxing break in beautiful surroundings with great food and top class service. We will be back . Thank you so much , we loved our stay.

My 2nd time staying in this hotel. I was keen to come back after an exceptional experience first time. The hotel had only recently re-opened and have paid a lot of attention to cleanliness and safety of customers. Temperature checks on all doors, hand sanitiser everywhere, obvious extra cleaning and spotless rooms. We had to book the pool and eating times but were never rushed and felt just as relaxed as at any other time. We had a lovely suite with an interconnecting twin room for the kids which was really nice. The hotel is beautiful and the food is excellent but the real standout is the staff, who are so attentive and professional. I will definitely be back again.

We stayed here for two nights and were so looking forward to being spoiled. What a let down. When we arrived we were told (at 1pm ) that check in was strictly at 3pm and to return then. So we went to get some lunch. When we passed reception shortly after an hour later there were guests checking in! But it wasn’t 3pm! We also noted the following day guests checking in at 11.40am! We then had to queue for ages to check in and when we got to our room I found that there were no dressing gown and slippers. There was also no tea, just coffee. I contacted reception twice who said they would drop some to us however I ended up that evening having to go directly to reception about this as none arrived. I was told they had run out!!! I explained we needed them for the spa and was told that they may arrive in the morning. If not we would have to go without. We ended up getting them the following morning but never got any tea.
The food in the brasserie was lovely however the menu was exactly the same at lunch at 1pm as for dinner at 8pm. I was shocked at this.
The experience in fire and salt was lovely, food delicious and waiter extremely helpful and nice.
I found the staff mostly very curt and rude. They were not a bit helpful and we both felt that upon asking for something like we were intruding upon them!
Breakfast the second morning was super busy there were people everywhere and we got forgotten about. It was like a cattle mart as people queued for the buffet which had been renamed a carvery breakfast!!We received no tea and coffee and had to ask twice where it was. We had been sitting for thirty minutes with breakfast almost eaten when it finally arrived.
We had afternoon tea on one day which was lovely however the day we were leaving I spotted they charged us twice!! I made them aware of this and their attitude was extremely rude, almost accusing us of lying. Turns out they had charged us at 3pm and again at 5pm.
We booked a hot stone massage each paying full price for two very different experiences, mine was over after 50 minutes and my partners was an hour and twenty!! He got a head and face massage and I didn’t. We paid full price for something when the relaxation room was closed due to covid, no nice treats like smoothies etc and purely just a massage. It’s outrageous that they charged full price for a lesser experience.
The tin hat on it came today as I was checking my bank balance only to discover that they charged my card twice!! So I paid nearly 400 last week and today they took the same amount AGAIN out of my account. Absolutely shocking. What’s worse is the lack of assistance I received when I rang to complain. The attitude by the girl was unprofessional and rude and when she later rang me back to say that the finance department could see no error and she asked me to send PROOF!!! I ended up taking a screenshot of my bank account and emailing it to the hotel. To which, hours later I have received NOTHING, not even a phonecall. I am down nearly 400 euro because this hotel cannot get it’s act together.
This was the biggest disappointment for a long overdue staycation!

I've stayed in Johnstown house many times, it's our go to place for a spa night away with the girls. Unfortunately this time it was disappointing mainly due to poor communication I feel. I booked our stay over email and was told it included a room upgrade however when we arrived to the room it was just a standard room. When I asked at reception they said the upgrade was robe and slippers and a coffee machine, this in my eyes is not an upgrade. We were booked in for a spa treatment but we're not told before hand it was closed for renovations, having a treatment in the hotel room does not have the same ambience unfortunately. The most disappointing part was when we arrived down for dinner at fire and salt and it was closed due to it not being busy enough. This restaurant is lovely and the main reason I picked the hotel to stay in. The bar food is ok but nothing special.
When I emailed the hotel after our stay I never even got a reply. This has put me off returning in the future as it's not a cheap getaway. I understand these are hard times for businesses especially in this sector however I feel I would not off been as disappointed if there was better communication as to what to expect. Just also want to note the afternoon tea was lovely a great deal I got on pigsback! The girl serving us was lovely. Also the breakfast was nice and I felt safe in the hotel plenty of sanitisers and social distancing was adhered to.

Choosing a venue for a wedding reception is sometimes a difficult decision, for us The Johnstown Estate was an easy decision and one we were so happy with from start to finish.

The hotel has beautiful suites for a wedding and given the change in guests numbers, we were so glad we had a different room to use, as the ballroom which was originally picked for 160 guests wouldn’t suit our party of 23.

The ballroom is beautiful when it’s set up. We had brought our parents to the wedding fair there and they all commented how welcoming and nice all the staff were. Nothing was any trouble, anything we wanted different, anything we wanted to change, everything could be accommodated.

When we went for our meal tasting, we were so thrilled with such a choice of different dishes, the food was excellent. There was lots of choice for all our guests and all their dietary requirements. The staff were excellent with recommendations and explaining what works well and why.

We were due to get married in April 2020 and unfortunately due to covid 19 restrictions we had to postpone our wedding. We had planned a huge celebration with all our friends and family, then we changed our date, then our church couldn’t accommodate us, then we had to change our date again. All through the postponements, the changes and restrictions, the staff at The Johnstown Estate were fantastic, so supportive and always at the end of the phone to help. Even when it came to organising the accommodation, the staff were excellent ensuring all our guests and different needs were catered for.

Although we couldn’t have the wedding we imagined due to the restrictions we were so well looked after on our big day. Everyone commented on the food, the service, the bedrooms, everyone was so impressed with the hotel and staff. People commented on how the bedrooms were so comfortable, so tastefully decorated.

The day we got married we were so lucky with the weather, the grounds of The Johnstown Estate were the perfect location for photographs with the professional photographer.

We highly recommend The Johnstown Estate if you’re looking for a wedding venue or you want to host an event. You won’t be disappointed, the staff were so good to our guests, in particular they remembered that one wedding guest was very elderly and they remembered to make sure her mobility needs were catered for. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed our big day, we hope at some stage in the future to host a party for our family and friends, we know we can rely on the team at The Johnstown Estate to cater for such an event.

Stayed here in The Mulberry suite with 6 of My friends to celebrate a 40th birthday, cannot say enough good things about this hotel, it is really beautiful, staff are so pleasant did not meet one staff member who was not friendly and helpful. The restaurant food was top quality absolutely devine sirloin beef with all the trimmings and fabulous breakfast, my only complaint was I dislike having to stand in line and make My own toast when I am on a hotel break , it is such a treat to have a basket of toast dropped to your table, in My opinion if makes for a much more pleasant dining experience. The spa was magnificent with excellent professional staff who knew there stuff and made you feel in safe hinds.. Small suggestion on the spa is perhaps putting frosted glass on windows as felt bit exposed with so many passers by looking in while having a treatment little lacking in privacy but have nothing else negative to say. If you need some relaxation and a kick back with friends or family this is the place to do it.. Top marks 👍👍

Most people pick Johnstown Estate to simply enjoy its ambiance for a short break - both answers above are correct / Enfield is nearest town with public transport connections to Dublin but how frequent these are I do not know -but the hotel itself would help you there with a timetable - then u could consider yr options - The Grand in Malahide would be a better choice for you IF visiting Dublin is KEY - it has great connections to Dublin City - I love J. Estate - but you go to remain there when you are car - less - enjoy your hols 🤗
