Had a great 2 days away at the spa lodge which we got for Xmas and it was my first time staying here but I have been to a wedding reception here before. The room was lovely and the staff very friendly and could not do enough for us we had our breakfast in our room for the two days which was an extra €40 which does sound very expensive but I did not mind paying it as I loved the idea of breakfast in bed with my wife. We used the hot tub and steam room in the pool area which was very clean and not a lot of people there so we were not waiting to use any facilities. The food was very nice too and only €23 for a 3 course meal each which I thought was very reasonable and I would definitely stay there again.

We bought a deal staying 2 nights nights mid week with breakfast and 2 cocktails. We had afternoon tea at Jack's Bar and used the spa afterwards for some treatments, this was really enjoyable and would highly recommend. The hotel was great, the staff were very friendly. The rooms showed some signs of wear and tear but was absolutely spotless.

Breakfast was delicious. Not necessarily the biggest hotel spread we have had but we were more than pleased with the hot and cold selection on offer and they also let you select other items of a small breakfast menu at no extra charge.

We had dinner one night in Jack's bar, my husband wasn't keen on his pizza as it appeared to be undercooked. I enjoyed my goujons. I found drinks prices very reasonable in the bar.

We used the pool, hot tub and jacuzzi twice and really enjoyed having the facilities. Gym looked like it had plenty of equipment but we never used it.

Would definitely return if we got a good deal.

We are just back from a much needed weekend away without the kids !!!
On arrival we were greeted reasonably ok . I think out of all the departments a little refresher course for the receptionists might be of benefit. As when we were checking out we were handed our bill to check over and once we settled this it was thanks and goodbye !! Whatever happened to “ had ye a nice stay” ? I know from my own years of experience working in hotels we would never let a guest leave without asking did they enjoy their stay !!
We had booked a superior room as we wanted something a little special . It cost extra than a standard double but I’m still not sure what was superior about it ?? Maybe the 2 plastic bottles of still water ?? A dressing robe would have really come in handy too especially as there was no changing room facilities in leisure centre so basically you arrive to pool and have to change at the side of the pool or the disabled toilet if it’s free !! Then you get out of the pool and wrap a towel around you and go back to your room dripping wet hoping you won’t meet too many guests on your way or the lift won’t stop at reception for all to see you !! Seriously a dressing robe at least should have been offered to guests !! We did ask but we were refused . Lots of hotels have their changing rooms open to guests and can keep them sanitised and safe for guests . I think this hotel has chosen the lazy options and the Covid restrictions are their answer to everything!
However on a positive note the food was excellent and the restaurant staff very attentive . Jackie who treated us in the spa was excellent .
So don’t go wasting your money on a “ Superior” room !! Remember to take your own bulky dressing robe in your already packed to capacity suitcase !!!

Hi Olivia Thank you for choosing the 4* Ballyliffin Lodge & Spa for your short break. I am sorry to read that you felt some areas of your stay were not to your pleasing. We will certainly address this. With us boasting such high accolades and awards not to mention the Fáilte Ireland Customer Service Excellence Programme Award for our staff, it's important to keep improving all the time. We believe a Superior room is well-worth the upgrade. It's a larger room for starters not to mention front facing. They boast unrivaled views of; Malin Head Ireland's most northerly point where you can witness large waves rolling in against Pollan Bay plus stunning coastal landscapes & visit. Most Guests find that to be one of the highlights of their stay! Thank you for your comments on the Leisure etc. It's testing times that we live in and we are doing our best to operate to the highest standard that we can in line with the Government regulations. Guest and staff safety is paramount to all our decisions and we will take your comments on board Olivia. Kind regards Management

I don't use the hotel much so can't really comment, at this time. However, I do use the swimming pool. The hairdryers in the ladies' dressing rooms at the pool are barely working (one of them is cool only, the other one makes a dangerous whirring sound and you would be afraid to use it) They need replacing, and have done for some time now. The pool is lovely, but the lack of facilities in the changing room really takes away from the overall experience.

Hi Very surprised you felt the need to take to Trip Advisor to state these comments. We are aware of the Hair Dryers in the Ladies' Toilets and are currently in the process of upgrading them all. Being a regular Leisure visitor then you will be fully aware of the recent upgrades we have undertaken in the leisure Department over the last few months. At the Lodge we are constantly upgrading and developing our Hotel to maintain the extremely high standards that we set and to keep gaining the fantastic Accolades & Awards also. It's a shame being a regular visitor that you did not comment in this review on all the rest of our wonderful attributes such as; Jacuzzi, Hot Tub, Sauna, Steam Room, Cardio Room, Fully-equipped Gym plus our NEW Pool Deck seating area. Kind regards Management

The spa at the ballyliffin Lodge has to be one of the best I have ever visited. From the moment you enter you are welcomed into a serene atmosphere with plush robes and slippers and gentle Irish music.
My sister and I had the autumn/winter treats with foot ritual and back massage for only €70! Our therapists were both very professional, friendly and skilled.
The spa is an asset to this hotel and what I believe to be its best feature! Visited 5.10.21 so well done to all staff working that day.

Unfortunately we didn’t get up to our usual Hotel of choice because of Covid until the 20th of September for 6 nights. As we usually come to this fantastic Hotel twice a year and have been doing so for this past ten years or so it was strange not to get the big hug from the team but other than that our stay was awesome. The team have really went above and beyond to make sure everyone feels safe and protected and sanitize stations are everywhere. To be honest I felt as happy there as I would at home. Thanks again for a great Holiday.

The good parts:

The staff were fantastic - really warm and lovely to talk to. They were also very helpful with any queries.

The Spa Treatment:

Elaine did a fantastic pressure point massage and was a lovely woman to talk to. She also knew how much talking during a treatment was enough! Was very happy with the treatment as was my girlfriend.

The leisure facilities:

In short, I don't know where the 4 star rating came from. Not that I was expecting a family hotel's sauna and steam room + jacuzzi to be an A1 zen experience, but I would have at the very least hoped to have not seen kids in the jacuzzi. This put me off. The facilities also well very grimy. Our town's local leisure club could have competed with the state of the changing rooms/bathrooms/steam rooms etc. It just didn't feel like they were hotel facilities. They felt more like a Tuesday evening in my local gym.

The food:

Undoubtedly the worst part of the stay. The seafood chowder was bland and needed a lacing of salt to pass for flavour. This was really disappointing as I thought buying a chowder so close to the coast would.be a win/win!

The steak was awful. It was well cooked as the chef clearly how to get it rare, but the quality stopped at either how the meat was kept/sourced. The vegetable sides made me feel like I ordered from a military mess hall. The garlic butter might as well have just been butter and the onion rings tasted like they had been reheated.

The ice cream was what spurred me to write this review. Only for being up for most of the night getting sick and having my digestive system battered by it, I would have just packed up and went on my way, but whatever was (wasn't!) done to that dessert sent my stomach doing jump jacks. I have another 2 hour journey ahead and frankly feel more set to stay in bed with a toilet nearby than risk getting in a vehicle. I thought ice cream would be a safe bet but it really left its negative markings.

I resent being so hyper critical having had such lovely staff serve us throughout, however, the food from last night really put a dampener on the good night sleep I was intending to have - to a point in which I was left no other choice but to leave a little rant review...

The place is really well located, I must reinforce that the staff are fantastic, but all the other crucial elements, for me, reached nowhere near the criteria for a 4 star joint.

I'd love to say I will come back but I simply wouldn't be able to take the risk.

Hi Steven Very disappointing to read this post. We are but wondering of the true reflection. A lot of comic elements and what we feel are heavily inflated descriptions. Thankfully you are in the minority. We do boast 4.5 out of 5 with nearly 1,500 reviews. We are a wonderful family-run Hotel that are doing our absolute best within what is undoubtedly the most challenging time for us with scandalous Energy costs etc. etc. We are a high-quality 4* Hotel and have just recently passed the Fáilte Ireland Hotel Classification inspection with flying colours I might add. Our Hotel boasts exceptional staff in every Department and we are very proud of them all. We enjoy an annual average occupancy rate of over 90%. We don't get it right all the time, of course not, but we certainly strive to. We are currently working very hard to upgrade all areas of the Hotel. Unfortunately we don't have a magic wand to do this instantly. We have all our relevant 'Upgrade works' detailed and scheduled accordingly and we are working through them as quick as we can and as efficiently as we can. Kind regards Management

My daughter treated me to a 2 night break & we were not disappointed. Our room was lovely & the staff were really friendly & helpful.
We had afternoon tea in Jack’s Bar when we arrived & it was delicious. We also enjoyed dinner in the restaurant, which was great value for money & again the food was delicious.
The sea view from the hotel is spectacular.
We took a walk along the nearby beach, which was bracing. We spent the remainder of out break reading & relaxing in the hotel.

The view from the hotel grounds is to die for. On entering the hotel you were met by a very pleasant and helpful receptionist, Our room was very spacious with views over the bay and mountains and a big well stocked bathroom, also the kingsize bed was very comfortable. Overall the hotel was clean and tidy with good food and bar service. There was a good range of food on the menu and this was nicely cooked and presented, also the breakfast had a good range of hot and cold food.
