Four of us ate in the bar area which we have done many times before, however this was a very poor experience. The food was very expensive for the quality of the food, presentation and service, €16 for a burger with chips with not even a lettuce leave on the plate, bearing in mind this is no better than a Wetherspoons experience who charge £ 9.35 for the same burger but with onion rings and a pint! If they are going to charge restaurant prices they need to up their game big time, they over quote the locally produced mantra, which is only a benefit if it’s better quality and none of us saw that.

I can only review the food in the restaurant and bar as I did not stay here. It was still as great as I can remember from last year. The staff is great and always there if you need them to take care of you. Hot, fresh food. You will not be disappointed.

We recently had our wedding in The Ballyliffin Hotel and it was honestly the most fantastic day. The Hotel were top class, Don was a wonderful help arranging all the details before hand, as we had both the ceremony and reception in house, he was always a quick response and phone calls if needed. The staff on the day went above an beyond, so friendly, helpful and the food was fantastic. We have a few Vegan family members and those with dietary requirements and the hotel was so helpful and again praised for excellent food option. Everyone has commented about how brilliant the venue was and the food in particular. We cannot thank The Ballyliffin Hotel enough for making it such a wonderful day!

Well equipped rooms, comfortable beds. Close to stunning scenery at most northerly coast of Ireland. In house dining. Good breakfast. Very good price. Alas, no one smiles other than one young girl on the bar. Manager particularly grumpy in the bar restaurant

I was recently at 2 weddings this year here at the ballyliffin hotel and I found them very unaccommodating for vegetarian options the both times they only gave 1 option for vegetarians at the wedding and the option they have both times I don’t like and when I asked for something that they have in their bar menu, I was told the chef wouldn’t make it for me and I was basically given the option of mash and veg and gravy or chips veg and gravy, the waitresses were very nice (along with the rest of the staff) and I know that it’s not their fault, I’m disgusted because the bride and groom are also charged for a full meal when in my case it’s not my chips and gravy came in a side bowl not even a plate and it’s just not good enough

We called into the ballyliffin Hotel at approx 6pm this evening as we have on many occasions for dinner. We were seated in the bar and given menus a few minutes later a very embarrassed young waitress came over to advise that they were not taking any food orders until 7.30 as they had a large wedding going on and apologised. They actually did us a favour as we went to the ballyliffin lodge and had a lovely meal

We have been coming here for years as it’s such a relaxed atmosphere and the staff are always lovely. Usually there’s only 1/2 options for a main meal if you’re vegan but I was thrilled to get a starter option which had vegan cheese! They were so accommodating to make my garlic chips dairy free and the curry was delicious. Best meal I’ve had out in ages !!

My partner and I stayed for one night. We stay very regularly in Donegal and decided to give this place a go. The car park isn’t huge (but neither is the hotel), so could be hard on a busy day to find a space. First impressions weren’t amazing. We stood in front of two female members of staff and waited for them to stop whispering so we could check in. Receptionist was very friendly however! Room was pretty small, but clean and bed was comfortable. Our booking confirmation said the room would have a sea view, which we certainly didn’t have. The view we did have was Ballyliffin’s Main Street. We had to keep the windows closed as outside our window was scaffolding and two men climbing up it at 5pm. Dinner was very tasty. The bar/waiting staff were very friendly. We spent an hour and 45 minutes on 3 courses which was a bit slow, but no complaints as the food really was great. We were woken up by men on the scaffolding again. The other guests are noisy and obnoxious. They have no consideration for other guests with their shouting, screaming and letting their kids run up and down the hall. It’s a small hotel, so you hear everything. Breakfast was also tasty - much prefer the buffet style breakfast they have. Staff again are pretty slow but friendly. You must have to specially request a POT of tea/coffee as we were poured a cup which we found a bit odd. Check out was quick, but we weren’t asked how our stay was etc. Having worked in hotels for a lot of years myself, I just found the whole service very strange and frankly pretty poor. It’s unlikely we’ll return as there are plenty of other hotels, even in Ballyliffin itself.
