Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Really enjoyed our lunch here in the comfortable surroundings of the Lakeview Bistro and with great views of the hotel grounds and down to Lough Sheelin. Pleasant and efficient service with minimal waiting time for our food. I really enjoyed the toasted vegetarian focaccia with goats cheese and found the summer salsa was nicely spicy. The toasted ham, cheese, tomato and onion sandwich was also well received with good thick slices of proper baked ham. We both also really enjoyed the portion of skin on fries served with each plate. Delighted to receive a decent strong pot of tea which seems to be difficult for lots of places to provide these days. Reasonable overall value too. The grounds are beautiful and the setting second to none. Nice walks along the shore of the lake but the fairy fort was a bit sparsely populated on this latest visit!! A bit off the beaten track (and I took a wrong turn this time thanks to some joker who thought it would be fun to mess with the signposts in Kilnaleck 🙄) but it’s definitely worth seeking out. We usually come a couple of times in the year and I look forward to another lunch in the near future.

A large hotel, with a beautiful golf course overlooking the lake, it’s a great place to stay in the Midlands, less than an hours drive to Clanmacnoise, Belvedere, Tullynally, Kilbeggan and other sites. Rates were very reasonable (120E) and we were the only Americans there - its clearly a favorite of the Irish who come for golfing, family celebrations and weddings. (note that this is a popular wedding venue so I would avoid it on weekends) We were lodged in a suite overlooking the lake - a beautiful view. The bed was a double and, though very comfortable, was smaller than we are used to. The bathroom was adequate for us but the shower is in the tub with a sliding door so it may (would be) be difficult for those with mobility challenges., Breakfast and dinner were both very good - typical Irish breakfast selections and a varied dinner menu, with several different choices each evening - not just fish and chips but roast cod and roast beef. All in all, a lovely satay.

Really comfortable bed, beautiful grounds. Fabulous food. The staff were second to none. Especially the older man on hand to open the doors and guide you and check in to see you were OK. Grounds are stunning. We booked last minute and did not regret it.

I would highly recommend staying here. Relaxed, great food, welcoming staff that care about their guests. Liam, a gentleman, always available to help out. Comfortable beds. Good value. Don't miss the walks in Mullaghmeen Woods 20 minutes drive away. Going back in a few months and looking forward to it already.
