Excellent family rooms that still provided that element of luxury for Mum and Dad. Staff on the whole were very welcoming and helpful. Children were welcome in any of the restaurants and not made to feel otherwise. Food was very good and competitively priced. Pool is a good size and children loved. Gym has decent equipment for a work out. The only negative is the changing rooms need a bit of an overhaul and were cold. Setting is lovely and garden walk pretty - we played mini golf and ate food in the lobby/bar before leaving - food was enjoyed by all and again price was excellent for this lunch. only regret is we weren't staying longer. I hope the new owners of this hotel (as I believe its for sale) retain the staff and its many other positive offerings

We stayed in this wonderful hotel during the Christmas period. We had received emails before we arrived, asking for me to make dinner and breakfast reservations. As we turned into the hotel driveway an amazing sight greeted us. Well-manicured grounds and ample parking. We arrived early and the very helpful Concierge took care of our bags, we had lunch in the Kells Bar. The bar food was outstanding, we were presented with a menu by a friendly server very quickly. The food arrived fast and was very tasty. The receptionist called me when the room was ready, The rooms are very clean, comfortable and well-furnished. Even though the hotel was busy, we didn't hear any noise during the night. Our dinner in the restaurant was slick, efficient and extremely good. Service was first class. We visited the leisure centre and as they are everywhere in the hotel, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast the next morning was very well organised and we were served with the minimum of fuss. We were very impressed with the staff, wherever I went the staff genuinely wanted to help in a friendly way. This hotel is a true gem.

We stayed over the past weekend and have nothing but great things to say about the hotel and staff. Check in was quick and efficient as always and we were able to book a meal for that evening in the Summit restaurant. My husband had the steak which he loved and I had the feather blade beef which was some of the nicest food I have ever tasted. Both of us agreed that the peppercorn sauce was fantastic! Staff were extremely attentive and able to answer my query regarding the wine I had- one of the nicest Italian Pinot Grigio’s I have ever had! The music in the bar that night was brilliant, a very lively male singer and there was great banter with the crowd. Breakfast on both mornings was excellent as usual, with a fantastic selection and attentive staff. Our meal in the Conall Cearnach restaurant on Saturday evening can only be described as divine! The chicken Koftas were absolutely delicious- the star of the show! My husband had the duck which was great and I had the pork medallions. Everything complemented each other beautifully and again some of the nicest food we have ever tasted. Our room was a junior double suite which was immaculately presented and had a gorgeous balcony with views of the meticulously attended to golf course. Overall another fantastic stay at the Slieve Russell and we cannot wait to return again!

The deal included a Deluxe Twin Room Bottle of Proscecco on arrival, dinner (2courses), 9 hole Golf and hydrotherapy suite and breakfast the following morning. Sat in reception awaiting our room to be ready the windows were dirty inside and out thick cobwebs outside obviously there for months. The room was adequate a good size however there was dust and cobwebs on either end of the curtains. Room was way too hot but reception did supply a fan which was great. The Proscecco was on the table not chilled no glasses provided. Got to the restaurant for dinner, the restaurant receptionist asked for our room number then announced quite loudly ‘oh you have the two course deal’ we were brought to our table and again it was announced by the waitress that we were on a two course menu deal. And if we wanted another course we’d be charged accordingly which we were aware of anyway. I felt this was unprofessional service other than that the service was good. The food was average and the portions were very small. Breakfast was good with a huge variety of foods available and the service was good. I did online check in and out and got an email at 08.40am asking did I want to check out ‘now’ check out wasn’t until 11.30am. This was inappropriate. The nine hole Golf was good and the course was beautiful. My husband enjoyed the hydrotherapy suite. We had lunch in the summit restaurant when we arrived and it was also just average. Overall the experience was just ‘ok’ for a four star hotel.

Dear Siobhan. Thank you for your review and I am sorry to note that the cleanliness of the windows did not meet your expectations. We have an ongoing programme of window cleaning with a professional company, however I will certainly investigate your feedback. Please accept my apologies for the lapse in standards you experienced with your prosecco not being chilled and no glasses provided. I note your disappointment with the restaurant team member stating you were dining from a two course Table d'Hote menu and I will discuss your experience with the Restaurant Manager. I am pleased to note you enjoyed 9 hole academy and 18 hole golf courses and your husband enjoyed the hydrotherapy suite. Thank you for sharing this feedback and I do hope you will return in the future, as we would welcome the opportunity to restore your faith. Kind regards, Tony Walker.

I have stayed in many lovely hotels over the years but this one goes straight to the top of the list! It had an amazing atmosphere from the moment we walked in and from there on in there was nothing to fault.
There’s plenty of parking which is a good start. All the staff were friendly and engaged and we were personally welcomed by someone who cleverly (and without being asked) worked out who the elderly relative we were meeting was, which was really kind. In addition one of our party lost her car key and the staff found it the next day for which we were very grateful. The same staff were working all over the weekend which meant that we saw familiar faces. The food was beautiful - there are 3 restaurants and we had delicious dinners both evenings in the Conall Cearnach Restaurant complete with live piano playing, perfect breakfasts (one in the CC and one in Setanta Restaurant). Theres a spa (which we didn’t have time for) and a lovely pool with jacuzzi and sauna etc which we did. The grounds are stunning and include lakes and a (relocated) ancient monument, the Kells bar was great and had live music. Our room was perfect and the whole place is scrupulously clean, beautifully decorated for Xmas inside and out, with open fires, inviting public spaces and toilets and a Xmas shop. It’s incredibly busy and there were weddings all weekend but it just adds to the charm and atmosphere. I could literally go on and on raving about it!
We had a wonderful family reunion here and can’t wait to return which we definitely will.

Stayed here for the first time and this is my honest review: Hotel and decor beautiful Every single member of staff where incredible (they are all a credit to the hospitality sector and the hotel) Our room 207 was nice only gripe was view but would request different one next time I really appreciated the water fountain on the floors and think this is a great feature for sustainability and for customers visiting the hotel, well done for that Didn't use the leisure facilities but my partner did and thinks we were both bit disappointed that we paid so much money to stay and dine, throughout the duration of our stay that I definitely think it should have been complimentary. I have 4 kids and the pool was very crowded and it would have been a lovely feature to have for couples visiting.I hope you change this in the future. Otherwise our stay was really lovely and would be back to visit soon as we loved the grounds so well maintained and felt like it was such a great added feature to this already beautiful hotel. Thank you, hope to visit soon

Just back from a 2 night stay. This stay exceeded our expectations hugely. 1st time back in 8 years. The hotel itself has received a fresh coat of paint and all the public areas are spotless. Our room was more than sufficient with a hood sized comfortable bed....pillows were too soft but got used to them. Bathroom well finished. Fresh towels daily. Dining both nights was excellent with a good choice to suit all on the menu. Well presented and prepared by the chefs. The bar area was excellent with live music both nights. Good choice of beers, spirits and cocktails. Have to say the staff were excellent. Plenty of staff members working at all times. All friendly and willing to assist. There is a spa area and pool which was fine. Golf available on a champion class course. Nice walks available around the hotel grounds. All toilets on site well kept and clean. Have a special mention for Mihael and his team. Will definitely return as it was beyond excellent.

One of my favourite hotels in Ireland, it’s been a couple of years since I stayed, and I must say they have done a fabulous job with refreshing the public areas and the bedrooms. It was really busy when we stayed, whilst the staff seemed to be stretched in the lobby and bar, nothing was to much trouble, everyone we spoke with were really pleasant. Margaret at the front door is a great addition to, so welcoming and friendly. Online checkin is a great option, when we arrived a large wedding party had started to queue , which we were able to avoid. We enjoyed two lovely meals in the Conal Cearnach and Summit Bar which also got a facelift, what stunning views. Continued success, looking forward to returning in May for a family celebration.

I stayed here last weekend with a group of friends and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Our interconnecting rooms were cosy, spotless and the beds were so comfy. All of the staff could not have been nicer and especially a big thank you to Adrian in the restaurant for accommodating our change in plans! I will definitely be back!

A lovely hotel, grounds and very friendly staff. The room was very spacious and near to reception and the pool. It would have been nice to have a plug beside the beds to charge your phone/ devices. I would bring water bottles for the room as there is a water station down the hall but no jug provided. I would also bring plenty of snacks for kids as the vending machine we tried was out of order and there are no 'kiddie' snacks in the bar. Unfortunately there were works going on (which we weren't aware of when booking) and noise like hammering and drilling which was uncomfortable. The bar was closed and instead there was a conservatory (near to the works). We had a 4 year old boy with us. There was nothing for him to eat as all he wanted was chips but we would have had to book into the restaurant to buy him a plate. It was snowing so we didn't venture out. In the evening there was live music but by the time you finished dinner ,or rushed dinner, because seats were so limited, most residents I met had to sit in the hall to listen. The pool was quite cool in temperature so we didn't stay long and they were grouting the showers which I thought should have been carried out in the evening instead. There were so many kids staying but there was no club on for the midterm. There was a soft play area for babies/toddlers but in the games room nothing was free. I would have liked to book a spa treatment which I normally would in every hotel we stay in, but everything was very expensive and there were no special offers for residents.

Children aren't allowed in the bar area after 10 pm as far as I know but there's a seating area (couches, armchairs, fireplace etc) just outside the bar, not the lobby but the other side, that allows children after 10 and you can bring drinks from the bar there! This is just my from experience, I'm not 100% on the actual policy!
