Do not agree with the majority of the reviews which overstates this hotel&location and made me make the decision to book at this hotel. The good aspects are that the rooms are cleaned every day, the hotel free WiFi is good, the flat tv on the room and the courtesy of the reception stuff. But the rooms are extremely small, to access the room as was mine at the fourth floor must be climbed on a very narrow scale and the small window I had at the bed head was pointing to nowhere. By foot to reach a MRT station are needed approx 20 min. It is obvious the idea of the designer to recreate inside this hotel the atmosphere of China/Taiwan on the fifties, but I would have appreciated more comfort in the room.
This place got amazing reviews but honestly it wasn’t very special. The decor was cute but it had a bit of a funny smell. It also was not located very close to any metro stations. There were some tasty street food vendors across the street. The staff was friendly. Not bad but not awesome either.
The hotel is a very cute small place near the harbour, in an old area of Taipei close to a MRT station. The building was renovated preserving its old style, but adding all modern facilities to make one's staying very comfortable indeed. Nearby there are good cafes, a night market, and nice restaurants. I enjoyed Taipei mainly thanks to the tips and help offered me by Jian Shan Hotel staff, who even took me where I could buy a sim card: very friendly indeed!
The staff here are exceptional!! Friendly, helpful and perfect English speakers. Paul and Chen went out of their way to help us out and did much, much more than we could have hoped for. We are cycling around Taiwan and they offered to store our bike boxes for us until we returned. The location is great, right in the heart of old Tapei, walking distance to a night market and close to the Taipei main station. Rooms are spotless, comfortable and nicely furnished. Highly recommend this hotel.
Clean, comfortable, well located and staffed with the friendliest, most helpful people you could ever hope for. A couple of blocks from a great night market and lots of interesting sights. Paul, who checked us in, has known or found out the answer to any question we’ve thrown at him and has offered information we didn’t even know enough to ask. Definitely recommend.
We stayed here for 2 nights. It is an interesting and unusually decorated hotel. The theme is Chinese retro with the hotel completely designed to reflect what a house/building would look like back in the 30s, or maybe it's the 40s or 50s in China/Taiwan. Even the phones are the old style rotary phones. The decor is very interesting but tasteful. There's no elevators, and the building goes up with no rooms on the first floor, so you have to walk up flights of stairs. However, they have an innovative pulley system to hoist your luggage up to your floor for you, so that you don't have to lug your heavy luggage up several floors. The rooms themselves are extremely small. The bed is built on a platform perhaps to give the room a more open feel since everything is literally packed into a very small space. The side tables, bed, and a little ledge (that would be like a desk if it weren't so narrow that it can only be considered a ledge) are all right next to each other with little room to even walk around. The bathroom is very small as well. If you get claustrophobic, this hotel/motel is not for you. Otherwise, the price is right for a quaint boutique hotel like this and the location is somewhat centrally located. Although it is a good 15 minutes walk to the nearest MRT, there are bus stops closer than that and there's plenty of convenient stores, shopping of all kinds, and casual eateries like breakfast shops, and quick lunch places all around so that you don't really even need to take any kind of public transportation to get your essential needs met. The front desk ALWAYS has someone there, which is nice. The hotel staff's English, I would say, is pretty limited, but since I speak Mandarin, I didn't have any trouble communicating with them, and they were definitely very friendly and helpful, with giving advice on tourist spots and how to get to them in Taipei.…
A small hotel located on a good spot. Hotel staff is excellent and very helpful. Beds are very good, rooms are not oversized (at least the one I had as solo traveller). Very clean hotel. No complaints. Good choice in Taipei.
We stayed in a twin room which consisted of two very flat mattresses up above tiny seating areas all in the traditional tea house theme. The detail of the theming everywhere was incredible and amused us because it's different - however it's certainly not for everyone. The bathroom was actually fantastic, great size with decent shower unit. The very thin mattresses weren't great and in hindsight we'd have been better off not staying here for as long or in a different room, we still enjoyed the overall experience though. The staff on reception were great, very friendly and helpful. WARNING - there is no lift to the floors and the stairs are a bit awkward (which is why the guy on check in insisted on taking our suitcases up for us). Location was pretty decent too. A short walk from a metro station and about a 20-30 minute walk to the main Taipei train station.…
I really enjoyed this hotel. It was about a 20 minute walk from the main subway station, from what I remember. I got the single room..............which was really small, but fine for me since I only slept there. The bathroom was fine too. I would definitely stay there again as a solo traveler that just needed a place to rest.
The hotel has clearly just been renovated and the staff are helpful (if not very fluent in English and had run out of English maps when I arrived). The young guy on day - shift was great with directions etc... also it was always immaculately clean and quiet. However the hotel is a 20 minute walk from the nearest MRT station and apart from a 7/11 and family mart there isn't much nearby - neither of the restaurants I tried spoke any English or had photos which meant I couldn't really eat nearby unless I could point at someone else's food, and after a day of sightseeing it would be nice to be able to freshen up and grab a bite by the hotel knowing what I'm ordering ;). After 9pm the shops nearby close (scooter repair, electronics, furniture) so the walk from the MRT gets a little less appealing. Also I had to switch rooms - the photo attached shows the skinny mattress in 405 - which was on a lofted bed you had to climb a ladder up to it. Due to the distance I would hesitate to rebook, if you go for it just request a regular mattress and you'll have a good stay.…
