We returned after 5 years, and were in no way disappointed. Wonderful location and views, luxurious rooms with balcony overlooking the trees towards the sea. Pool also has views to die for. Plenty of sun beds and loungers, towels available by the pool. Good restaurant for breakfast - 1 buffet, 1 served - and dinner; and a happy cocktail hour. Lovely staff - Dennis, Ismael, and others. A sentimental journey for us all, but it fulfilled all our wishes
We absolutely love out stay at Vista Las Islas. The view was magnificent. We woke each morning to the sound of the howler monkeys in the distant trees. The food was yummy and the staff were friendly and attentive. We got around despite not having a car (long story) and our driver Walter was a perfect. We will definitely return. Thank you.
LOUD rooms with doors that do not shut properly, overcooked chicken that could not be cut without a steak knife, rancid hamburgers (threw up all afternoon.. an hourly bargain at $15 a burger!), past its prime infrastructure and indifferent management ruin a stunning view, nice pool and friendly staff. Lovely cats! Great beach nearby
We were a big group and stayed there for about 5 days. I will try to cover what other reviews have not covered. First of all there were several people saying a four wheel drive was required but you do not have to have 4W all the time. It is steep getting into the hotel from the road but they have concrete right at the entry where it gets steep. The road that leads to the hotel is muddy so if it is rainy season it makes sense to have a 4W drive. The staff and the hotel management (Thomas and Anya) where very friendly and they made us feel right at home. We did not have a rental car and we had a shuttle bus (interbus shuttle) drop us there. There are taxis available and if you let Thomas or Anya know they will come by to pick up. At the time we stayed there (Dec) there were not a lot of mosquitoes at the property. There were a lot of Noseums (Biting midges) at the kayak area (Bioluminescence) so make sure you have DEET or some other repellent if you book the kayak bioluminescence tour. The beach is about a 20-minute walk. Don't choose this hotel for the beach because you will be disappointed. There were a lot of tents and trash on the beach. This hotel is for the great view and wonderful hospitality. If you want a great beach then take the Tortuga Island tour which has a good beach. Do try the Coco loco, CostaRican rum in tender coconut with coconut cream at the beach in Tortuga island. If you had a car then there is a supermarket called Maxi Pali (Walmart owned) about 15 minutes’ drive away in the town of Paquera. There is also a bakery and a pizza place that were decent. The ferry dock is about 15 min away and if you take the ferry you can cut down significant amount road time especially if you are coming in or going out to San Jose airport. The ferry was not fully booked when we were there but we were told that it happens. It is a big ferry and advanced booking is available. Laundry was available to us and you get a big plastic bag from front desk and fill it up. They charged us $12/bag which might change depending on when you are going. We saw Toucans, Howlers, Capuchins and Iguanas. There is a big tree right next to the dining area where the monkeys are always hanging about. We saw the Aracari toucans which came to the tree right next to the restaurant. If you care to take a night walk around the hotel you will find cat eyed snakes crossing the road. They are beautiful looking big-eyed brown snakes. We had several vegetarians in our group and the kitchen at the property accommodated every ones needs.…
Fantastic view at this beautiful location in the middle of nature. Very friendly staff and service. Restaurant offers very good food, mainly grown at the place. Pool area with infinity pool and very relaxing atmosphere. Within easy reach of the ferry and local attractions. Some of the room equipment (fans, moskito-screens) need attention.
