We have just returned from our 4 day minimoon at Iso Syote. We stayed in an aurora suite. We absolutely loved it. The accommodation was simply stunning, modern, but using authentic features such as wooden walls. The bathrooms were spotless and modern, exactly what you want! The bed was comfy and the duvet/sheets felt beautiful and snug. The room was always warm which is a bonus when stepping out if the hot tub to sub zero temperatures! The hot tub made our trip, there was just something so refreshing about it being so cold and snowing and being in the warmth of the tub. We were in there multiple times a day. The restaurant is a short ride in the shuttle away, the timetable for the shuttle worked really well for us. The food was beautiful and the staff were friendly and helpful. The stay was simply magical and we will be back next year.

Only slight thing to note is due to the isolated location, there aren't any shops etc to buy food/drink unless you go to the restaurant. As the accommodation is half board, we bought items to snack on for lunch.

Dont read this review as your wasting time just book it go and have the most amazing time !! If you are still reading this then here is the information your need. Transfer from airport approx 2hrs. We were met as we came out of arrivals and taken straight to the transport. The driver was very polite and full of local knowledge if you wanted to know. Check in at the Hotel was very quick and everything was explained simply. There is an issue with room 202 as it's right next the construction and you can be over seen by the builders if they are working on that part of the re-build. It was a.problem for us as we had two rooms so just used the other room more. They work from 8 in the morning till past 8 at night in temperatures below -20 !! We dis.the Aurora hunting night trip, ice fishing and husky trips everyone well organised and worth every penny.
The bus down to the restaurant lef.t on time everyday and there was always space. The restaurant its self was amazing with a large selection of food all well cooked and delicious. The staff there are friendly and very helpful.
The temperature at the hotel was approxm 10deg colder than at the restaurant so you dont need to wear the snow suits that your given by.the hotel at night or for breakfast. We stayed in the Aurora suites and they are the best rooms we.have ever stayed in. You really cant ask for anything more this hotel. The whole stay was truly amazing !!!

Really nice hotel with many really good organized tours (Huskey Safari, Snow Mobile Safari etc all you can do in winterly Finland).

The hotel is beautiful, unfortunately it birnt down last year and it is built up again now. So there is no Sauna in the hotel at the moment, but i think the beautiful cottages have one. For breakfast and dinner a shuttle bus brings you down to the restaurant which has really good breakfast or you can drive down on your skiis. The lift brings you back up.

Will definitely come again and will then hopefully see northern lights.

The good: the Aurora View Suites are really nice. I really enjoyed the sauna and jacuzzi. The lighting options are really fun to play with as well.

The bad: this mainly applies to the room I was in, Aurora View Suite room 202. When I checked in, I was told it was at the end of the hall to the left. It was. It was also directly adjacent to the construction area where the new main building is under reconstruction following the Dec 2018 fire. So the paper-thin walls not only made me privy to room 204’s conversations but also enabled me to hear every hammer, drill, and noise on the other side from 07:15 until as late as 20:30 every day. The construction was so close to the room and outdoor deck that I didn’t feel comfortable using the hot tub during the daytime hours as construction workers were constantly within eyesight of my balcony. In addition, because the construction site has to be lit (at all times, by law, according to the receptionist), my Aurora view suite had a spotlight and zero Aurora view possibility.

The safaris: the dogsledding Safari with lunch is not 4 hours, more like 6, due to the hour-long drive to the husky farm. Also, the sledges are heavier and longer than others I’ve driven and were quite difficult to control. The guides rode ahead on a snowmobile, sometime so far ahead that we lost sight of then for quite awhile, which was completely irresponsible. I would not recommend this outing.

Overall: I think there’s a lot of potential here, but I think the summer 2020 grand reopening of the main building is ... optimistic. The management is clearly trying to meet a short term deadline at the expense of their current guests. Having originally booking he bear cave suite for Jan 2019 and canceled due to the fire, I was totally willing to give the Aurora View Suite a chance for Jan 2020. The room itself was a win, but all of construction-associated inconveniences particularly relevant to this room, as no other room was directly impacted this way, left me completely unsatisfied.

We (family of 3, 1x 6 year old) stayed at this hotel one night during our autumn holiday on the way down from Lapland and we had a wonderful, albeit short experience. Our Superior Star room was practically brand new, clean as if we had been the first people using it, decorated with great taste and high quality material/furniture. The bathroom is massive and the two floor to ceiling mega windows facing o the slopes provided the best view and atmosphere.
The spa is, again, brand new and very stylish, like the whole hotel, it is not very large but more than enough for a few hours of relax (just be prepared, the water in the main pool is below 30C!).
As customers can learn from the book/photo album in the room, the hotel's recent history has been marked by struggles and challenges, but the establishment's high standards and the quality of the service provided is a testament to the dedication and work of the ownership and staff.

We were staying at Arctic Hilltop on June 2021. It was the last destination of our week long trip. We were very pleased of the customer service and the room was really nice with all conveniences that you could expect. The view was amazing and own jacuzzi at the balcony was the best thing.

The hotel had a really nice evening restaurant with delicious food. Hotel spa was also great, nor so big but with a great atmosphere. Our stay was not so long but the hotel offered great options for spending time and sporting.

Unfortunately, the hotel breakfast did not match the other experience. there was one hour left for breakfast, but most of the serving had already run out and no new food was brought in even though it was requested.

However, the experience was great and we plan to stay at this hotel in the future as well. it is hoped that breakfast would have been improved since we last experienced it.

This could have been an amazing hotel experience, however the ongoing restrictions changed it somewhat.

The personnel is friendly, the breakfast (served as take away at the moment) is tasty and the pool area nice.

The view in April is still a winter wonderland, and staying at this hotel you are right on top of the slope. Perfect for anybody skiing downhill.

The breakfast is due to restrictions served as a take away taken from the buffet, and comes with a paper bag pre-filled with bread, buns and cutlery.

Every day we asked the personnel to take out some bread, but still there were always leftovers. Maybe it would be better to let the guests take their own bread, just to avoid too much being thrown away?

Visited this lovely hotel last weekend and we loved it! Hotel is clean, very spacious and modern. Food in restaurant was good, served quickly and waitresses made us feel very special. Thanks for that! We rented mountain bikes for 4 hours. Really recommend. SPA and sauna was well deserved after climbing up and down Syote. We'll come back!

The wow factor is the location with valley view. The other wow factor was our bear cave suite. Whirlpool, large sauna, fireplace, steam bath, two bathrooms and a lounge area. The room is on the lowest level, but the windows are mirrored so that you can't see into the room. Minor points of criticism were the poorly cleaned fireplace glass and the lack of a coffee machine (only kettle).
Thanks to its elevated location, the surrounding area receives much more snow than in the valley, a beautiful snow landscape- the highlight for us. The hotel has modern designed spaces (e.g. fireplace and terrace), but also places wirh retro charme (e.g. the huge dining room with carpeted floor and the exterior façade).
We didn't book any excursions, but took long walks individually through the snow-covered landscape behind the hotel. As the hotel is very remote, the activities around the hotel are limited. There is a small ski area nearby and one of the lifts runs right up to the hotel.
We always ate at the hotel. The evening buffet was so-so but the à la carte selection was fine. The best part was the cake selection at the bar during daytime. Also the pies and lasagna looked good, sadly they weren't available in the evening. The fireplace corner is a nice an cozy place for aperitif and after dinner drinks.

In addition to rooms, the hotel also offers cottage accommodation. Now we chose a log cabin right at the top of the mountain.

The exterior of the cottage looks great. Inside you will immediately notice the commerciality of the cottage. Decor and furniture cheap and simple. The kitchen was able to make just basic food, nothing more.

Cottage renovated recently? However, the floor indentations and the washroom floor through the water seeped?

In the sauna, a large temperature difference for the legs and upper body. Work best as a drying cabinet.

The best thing about the cottage is the good and beautiful location. Easy to go uphill and back.

Works well for two and if not looking for luxury.

Hi, happy to hear you are considering us as an option for your Lapland experience! Aurora Borealis is unpredictable like weather, and unfortunately we don’t have any percentage information on the chances of seeing them, sorry. It is like snow or sunshine - could be either way. Basically, the more north you go, the more likely it is to see the Auroras. Hope to see you around, whatever the weather! 🙂

Hi, you can wear ski clothes or simply jeans & winter jackets when coming from the airport or going to dinner. Outdoors you’ll need thermal layers underneath.

Hi, take at least two thermal layers to use under the overall. You could also wear a winter/ski jacket underneath if the temperature drops real low.

Is there snow in April at this resort?
Answer from Katariina K
Taivalkoski, Finland5 contributions5 helpful votes
Hi liziwizi! The slopes were open until May 1st last spring. However other activities are carried out on natural snow which is dependent on weather conditions and they vary a lot from one year to another. For example the snowmobile tracks cross swamps and rivers that sometimes start melting around mid April. Two years ago we were still cross country skiing in early June! In short, there is no guarantee that all activities can be carried out until the end of April. Nature makes the terms!
