We stayed at Nangu for 4 nights at the end of January (a package trip arranged through Discover the World). From the moment we arrived the staff were amazing, so friendly and helpful. We stayed in a Panoramic Log Cabin which overlooked the frozen lake - it was immaculately clean and comfy. We were kitted out with our snow-suits and boots which were clean and fitted well. Our excursions were Snow Shoeing (excellent fun and our guide Lenna was infectious with her love for the outdoors), evening Aurora Camp, Snowmobiling and Husky Dogs. All were brilliant both in terms of the activity itself, and our guides who were all funny, friendly and looked after us perfectly. Breakfast and dinner were in the main hall which is a beautiful setting. All the food was simply lovely, and the staff so friendly. I can recommend trying the Glogi...! We were also lucky enough to see the Northern Lights, a real bonus. I cannot fault this hotel at all, and would completely recommend it to anyone. Thank you to everyone at Nangu for a most enjoyable and memorable stay.

My wife and I spend 4 days at the Wilderness Hotel Nangu End of January 2020/ Beginning of February 2020 to enjoy the lappish wilderness and to be able to spot the Aurora. The hotel has a fantastic location next to the Inari lake and as it is a small Boutique hotel the atmosphere is quite family like. Everyone working at the hotel no matter if I remind myself of the Reception, the waiters at the restaurant, the driver who took us to the airport or any of the tour guides was absolutely friendly and commited to make our stay most comfortable for us! Thank you once again for your hospitality!! We have done several guided tours like Snowmobiling, Snowshoe Trekking, Aurora Camp and so on. Our Guides Jarmo, Lena and Isa explained a lot about the lappish nature, the weather conditions, the animals living in the area and so on so that we felt very good informed and the tours were absolutely fun. The food in the Hotel's restaurant was always delicious and composed out of local products. Also the selection of beers and wines is fantastic. To sum up: Will we come back to this place in the future? - For sure!!

We stayed in one of the Superior rooms which was warm and well equipped. There are now some lodges with hot tubs and big scenic views which would be very tempting - budget permitting! The guides at the resort are excellent and we went snow shoeing, snow mobiling ( Day trip and then hunting for Northern Lights at night ) and husky sledding. All were excellent. A first class trip. Adults only resort.

We stayed here for 4 nights on the Arctic Experience Package, booked through Discover The World travel agency. We spent 3 nights in a wilderness room, which is spacious and warm, with a log cabin feel. Our final night was spent in an aurora cabin and we were extremely lucky that the lights made an appearance on this night (13/1) from 8pm until early morning and we were able to watch the lights from the comfort of our bed, which was the most amazing thing we’ve ever seen. The cabins are expensive, but massively worth it to see the lights and the stars. It’s worth noting that there is no hanging space in the cabin, but there is in the wilderness rooms. None of the rooms have TV’s, but we knew this, so played music and games instead; we also packed our own alcohol to drink in the room, which I would recommend to anyone who likes to drink, as Finland is generally expensive for alcohol.

The food at the hotel is exceptional; I liked everything they gave me, even things I wouldn’t usually eat. Breakfasts (caters for all nationalities) and lunches are both buffet, with 1 soup, 1 main course, 1 dessert and a salad selection for lunch. Dinner also featured a soup and salad, but the main course and dessert were served at the table and were all fine dining. The hotel doesn’t sell itself as being fine dining, but it actually is and is some of the best food I’ve eaten, especially the reindeer burger and the arctic char. The kitchen is small, which is why there is only one choice, but as long as you aren’t a fussy/picky eater, you’ll enjoy it. They’re also happy to cater for people with dietary requirements, but this wasn’t necessary for us. There’s also a bar serving wine and cocktails, should you wish. All of the staff are pleasant and helpful and there is never pressure to tip. I wasn’t sure what to wear at night in the restaurant, so I thought I’d mention that too. Most people either wore walking clothes, or jumpers and jeans. Certainly no need to bring anything too dressy, as the vibe is very much rustic casual.

The excursions were professional and throughly enjoyable; we did husky sledding, aurora snowmobiling, explore snowmobile, snowshoeing and a visit to a reindeer farm. Aleksi in particular was a really good guide. The hotel kit you out with a thermal snow suit, boots, mittens and a balaclava for snowmobiling. They carefully fit you for everything and are very relaxed about you returning it. Not sure of the gents name that runs the equipment store, but he gave brilliant customer service. It’s worth noting that for all but the reindeer trip, you need a reasonable level of fitness, so not overly suitable to anyone with mobility issues. I’m sure there are other trips that could be booked and there’s also the private sauna to hire for a very reasonable €10ph.

This holiday was incredible from start to finish and I would 100% recommend it to anyone. Seeing the lights from the cabin was the icing on the cake!

We arrived for a 4 night stay. One night in an Aurora hut on the lake and 3 nights in a panoramic log cabin.
When we arrived it was dinner time and the reception gave us all our paperwork and told us to go to dinner and take our time reading all about our trips we had arranged. I thought this was well planned as it saved queues at reception.
When we checked in the hotel offered us an alarm for €30 so if the northern lights appeared while we were asleep we wouldn't miss them.
This was a great €30 spent as we saw them 3 out of 4 nights.
All the staff in the hotel were very friendly and welcoming.
We found the adventure team were very good and all the hired clothing was in good condition.
All the food that the hotel done was great. The soups for lunch and dinner were supberb with lovely homemade bread. If I have a slight complaint there was no choice on main courses for lunch or dinner but food was cooked to perfection.
The accommodation was clean and well equipped and also very comfortable. The outdoor jacuzzi was a great place to view the lake and an amazing experience. The sauna was also well equipped but took a while to get to temperature but the jacuzzi could be used straight away.
We did three trips, husky sledging, snowmobiling and visited a reindeer farm. All trips were worth doing but my favourite was the huskies.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone and if I ever visited Ivalo again it would be my preference choice

We had a fantastic stay in the beginning of January 2024. Our Standard Room without sauna (all other rooms/cabins were booked) was in a row with little huts. The room was big and cosy. You can book private time slots in a sauna viewing the frozen lake via reception.

The activities are great fun (we did husky sled ride, reindeer farm visit, snow shoe walking) in small groups and the trips are well organized.
Should you need warm clothes you can borrow everything for free. Snow suit, shoes, woollen socks, helmet, ….We brought our own clothes but I borrowed a snow suit for the husky ride .

At arrival we had -21 C degrees (-5,8 F). Was not bad at all. It only feels very cold when
you have an icy wind in addition.

Dinner is delicious !!! Breakfast was horrible gluten free bread o n l y (in the evening they had normal freshly made yummy bread) & gluten free pancake dough, lactose free cheese (this is the only cheese available in Finland, because people there can not tolerate lactose). Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day so I was not impressed.

The staff was cheerful, helpful and always asked about your day. They must have heard every activity story a million times but they still get excited with you. Very sweet.

In the beginning of January it was still very dark, (sun) rise of light about 10am and sunset about 2 pm. We did not see the northern lights. One fellow guest had been at the hotel at the exact days the year before and saw them every day (and therefore had booked the same dates 2024 ;-). So you never know. It is an adults only hotel and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. Wifi only works at reception = the big house with guest lounge/breakfast&dinner room.

Advice: Bring a special spray or anti fog wipes if you wear glasses. You need it when you wear a balaclava or scarf over your nose. Also heat pads for you shoes are great, I was happy with the pads from the heat company.

I loved it there and would come again.

They don't lie when they say Wilderness! This lodge is quite isolated, around a 20 minute drive from the town of Ivalo and surrounded by pristine forest this place is very special. There is no TV or wifi in the rooms so bring a good book! The rooms are very cosy with thick wooden logs for walls and great views into the forest (didn't see any wildlife though!). The sauna can be booked privately which is very nice. Stunning views, great for walks and perfect for those looking to get into nature and away from city life. Loved it and will come back

I am saddened to write these next sentences but I really hope that the hotel management wakes up to this.

We are Finns (me and my husband) and this was our 6th time here in Nangu and again (this time radically) we witnessed the descending quality of service, food and finishing and at the same time prizes have increased tremendously. With the 500e per night you can and you have to ask more than amazing beautiful nature, wilderness and aurora (which are actually free).

The accomodation is good, that is not a problem. But the food is below standard, my vegetarian beef was 2,5e convenience foor from the nearest market. Traditional mullet wine was cold and mostly juice. Deserts were sad and embarassing.

And about the service. No one was having the control. We had to ask everything starting from the water until desert from the confused staff. And after every single order or question, they asked our room number. And everything took really long.

To wrap up: this is not a problem of the individuals working here, they were mostly doing their best but this is above all an organizational issue: there is missing leadership, lack of training and introduction and too little staff.

What a place! We visited mid January and had the most amazing time. We booked a panoramic log cabin for 3 nights and our last night was in an Aurora log cabin.
The panoramic cabin has its own jacuzzi and sauna so is perfect for getting warmed up.
All the activities were excellent and very well organised.
The Aurora cabin has a glass roof with the bed underneath so so can watch the night sky and hopefully the aurora from your bed, either way I’m glad we did this.
The winter clothes package provides you with a snowsuit, boots, gloves, socks and balaclava but take your own coat for in between activities, hat, base layers, jumpers, thermal trousers, face cover and glove liners as it gets very cold especially on the lake.
Foot and hand warmers came in very handy, take your own or you can buy them at reception for €2.50 per pair.
The food is buffet style of which the quality and variety is excellent.
The staff were wonderful, very friendly, helpful and welcoming.
I would not hesitate to stay here again, thank you Hotel Nangu and staff for making our stay so enjoyable.

Had a fantastic holiday at Nangu. The complex really is in the middle of nowhere, 30mins drive from the nearest town, and the setting is stunningly beautiful. We had a few days in a panoramic log cabin, with floor-to-ceiling windows looking through the trees onto Lake Inari, and it was a very good choice. We woke at 3am to find the Northern Lights were out, and we just sat on the end of the bed for an hour watching them. Sitting in a hot tub on the balcony at minus 30C wearing a beanie was odd but very relaxing. For the final night we stayed in a Lake Inari Aurora Hut, where half the walls and ceiling are glass. It was comfortable and surprisingly toasty but very small, the staff advised us to leave our large cases at reception. Be warned, the huts have no running water, so there bottles and flasks for drinking, and a chemical toilet with hand wipes. The food was fantastic. Buffet breakfast and lunch, with loads of options. The main course at dinner was adequate (in size - quality was amazing) but not huge, so you might want to get extra at the starter buffet, again there are loads of options. All the excursions were very well organised and run, and the staff were lovely. The hotel ask you to wear the snowsuit, boots and gloves they provide for the excursions, to protect your own clothes. Since one of the sled dogs wee'd on someone's trousers, this was probably a good idea! Btw, the sled dogs were gorgeous, and we got chance for cuddles after the ride. Totally recommend.

The activities with speed like sitting on the sleds and snowmobiles require more warmth. We bought face masks (balaclavas) and hand warmers are important. I didn’t take their advice and get big boots, I got ones that fit and that worked well. When just walking to meals, my own boots were fine. Just their suits on activities where you’re exercising is fine, use your undercoats for the speed activities. Their mittens were huge so bring good gloves with space for the hand warmers. We also used them in the boots but didn’t really need them there. We had headlights for walking around but not strictly necessary. The helmets seemed to steam up so the face masks were important on the snowmobiles. Too bad you can’t stay longer, we saw the lights on the 6th night.
