Been there for two days. I wished we stay for more days as we checked in Hilton. Sofitel is better. The beach, the snorkeling, the service, the amenities. I wished that they had breakfast included. They changed it during I rebooked. Anyways, I enjoyed very much the stay. The service is top and very thoughtful of them. Highly recommend. I would come back.

We arrived in French Poly to find that the Covid restrictions had gone from mild to full lockdown while we were in transit. This meant that the private whale and ATV tours were kaput, and we were confined to the grounds of the resort. At this point we decided to upgrade from a garden sea-view to a horizon overwater. Worth it. Waking up with the sun and quietly plunging into a Polynesian lagoon is a unique experience once you get passed the thalassophobia. The only restaurant that was open was the hotel's main buffet restaurant, and it was totally fine. The poisson cru is awesome and they cook a great steak. The place is beautiful. Just being there made me happy. They re-stock your fridge daily with Hinano and Perrier. Their pearl boutique has A+ quality stuff. Ask Johnny Dep. The only English channel is CNN, but the WiFi is good throughout the resort. They have decent rentals at the diving center. You can check out masks, fins and snorkels free of charge. Do that on day one if you're in an overwater and didn't bring your own.

Room Tip: The overwaters are a lot of fun, but there really isn't a bad room in this hotel.

Overall it was a great stay in a beautiful location. The only reason for lower service rating was due to issue with replenishment of drinks in mini fridge in room and the way it was handled by front desk. A minor issue but one that shouldn't happen.

Dear James L, Thank you for your positive review of our hotel and we are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. We apologize for the misunderstanding regarding the minibar. We do offer a free daily minibar refilling service with a selection of 2 beers, 2 soft drinks, 2 waters, however, this replenishment service is only carried out if the products in the minibar have been used. We will share your comments with our staff. We thank you for choosing the Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea Beach Resort. Best regards

Ok same positive comments as I made 5 years ago when we came before so check that review from Sept 2016: beautiful island, beautiful resort. NOW, on to the criticisms that I would really appreciate answers or responses from management. First, we’re unfortunately there during a lockdown (no leaving the resort, period)…it’s not the resorts fault, I get it. But I do hold the resort responsible for not making better efforts to make adjustments for the fact that their patrons just spent thousands and thousands of dollars to be there and are stuck with nowhere to go. So how about some additional activities on site? How about relaxing your policy of letting guests use the kayaks and paddle boards for only one hour per day and then you charge after that? We are after all already spending $1000+ a night to stay in your overwater bungalows. And how about some variety in the dinner menu each night? We are stuck there with nowhere else to go, so maybe some different daily specials and additions to the same tired menu would have been nice. And can someone please explain to me why there are over 20 TV channels and not a single one except CNN is available in English? I get it…you don’t spend a lot of time in your room etc. But in the evening when you just want to wind down, a little television is nice…and at least half the couples we met there were American. I assume that’s probably about the normal ratio there for tourists…so why in the world would you not offer English speaking channels?

Dear StormOtto, We thank you for taking the time to detail us about your experience. As mentioned in your comment, you arrived at the hotel when new restrictions were announced by the local authorities and a curfew and lockdown were implemented. All hotels in Tahiti and Moorea (as well as those in all the other islands of the archipelago) have received the same instructions : cancel all concerts/shows /conferences and all tourism companies have also been instructed to stop their activities. Following the lockdown restrictions, we have added several activities and entertainment within our hotel (which does not require guests to leave the hotel): botanical tour with different workshops and a cooking class, games with virtual reality headsets, ukulele initiation, monoi making. We would also like to inform you that the Nautical Center located in our hotel is managed by an external service provider. We have well noted your comments and we will share your feedback with them. In addition of these new restrictions and despite the social distancing measures taken, our team and their families were impacted by the pandemic resulting in a reduction of our staff. We had to adjust our services, and rearrange our organization. This is the reason why our menus were limited during your time at the hotel. We would like to apologize for the inconvenience the situation caused, and we can assure you it does not reflect the quality of service that we used to offer. We have revised and expanded our menu since you visited. Regarding the TV channel, we indeed offer one English language channel (CNN) for the time being. We apologize for this inconvenience, we are working on a solution and we thank you for the patience you shown during your stay. We are sorry that your stay did not fully meet your expectations and we thank you for sharing your concerns. Best Regards

Wow! This place was beautiful! The resort offered complementary kayaks, paddle boards & snorkel equipment. There was a dive shop on the resort. Our mini refrigerator was stocked with complimentary water, juice, beer & sodas. We can’t wait to return.
