Stay in privately held accommodation far removed from modern hotels. Offering a great sense of harmony and ease, while being keenly aware of customers desires and sense of finesse when it comes to comfort and a dining experience. We offer you a chance to experience the Irish culture in a personalised sense of traditional hospitality which the owners themselves find hard to emulate in such a changing world of busyness.

I booked Killofin House for a weekend away for my birthday as there was a dancing festival on which I wanted to attend. After I booked, I learned that some friends had planned a surprise party for me on the Saturday night so cancelled my two nights and IMMEDIATELY re-booked Killofin for the Friday night only. Two hours after my booking was made I got an email from the owner to say: " I'm afraid your room is gone as I have taken someone privately . I can only offer you a room in a cottage locally for one night (Friday) . It would be self catering." I said that perhaps the people she gave my room to after my booking was made could take her alternative accommodation but she ignored this. Since, I have seen a number of reviews on various websites to show that the same thing happened to others. It would seem that bookings are not honored in the place you think you are booking and that offering alternative accommodation is not unusual.

My sister and I were travelling through Ireland for two weeks this past spring, and this was by far the best place we stayed in the whole county. Geraldine welcomed us with tea and made us feel entirely at home. She took us up to see the farm, and introduced us to some people who could help us track down some of our ancestors in the area. She and Trevor and the dogs (we miss you Maisey, Dougall, and Millie <3 ) made it feel like we were visiting family or old friends rather than strangers. The house was cozy and clean, our room had a beautiful view of the River Shannon.

The owner of this accommodation was very unprofessional right from the start. She didn't reply to e-mails we sent and when she did the replies were short and unhelpful. We sent a deposit and had to write to ask if she received it. A message from her the day before our arrival informed us that there was no hot water in the house but she was looking into it and it should be fine when we arrived. It was our mistake thinking check-in time was two o' clock which it normally it is and when we spoke to her on the phone she very sharply told us it was five. This was not a problem as we drove off to the nearest town to eat and kill some time.. However, we returned to the house at 5.20 and no sign of the owner. In fact she turned up at 6.40! She very casually apologised and then proceeded to tell us we could not stay in the house and if we would follow her to another property up the road. We knew she rented other houses on another web-site but they were not ones we liked and not the one we booked. We got our deposit back and left. So a very disappointing experience, not what we expected at all.

We can recommend this house fullheartly. It has its own character and the hosts were really helpfull. If you look for a house with the charm of 1840 combined with modern facilities you will find it here.

What an oasis of tranquillity, on arrival we were greeted by our hosts Geraldine and her husband Trevor, a genuinely excellent team. A beautiful B&B oozing character, not to mention fantastic wholesome homemade food. Geraldine and Trevor have an incredible knowledge of the area and will provide you with all the information you need regarding local folklore and locations worth visiting. Killofin House is top of the list for a return visit. Mgt Fennelly, Carlow
