This is a truly amazing place in the middle of a small village in a beautiful setting, well worth a visit for a couple of nights. Little around in the way of restaurants etc but the food is very good here. The rooms are large, very comfortable and airy with spectacular views of the countryside, there is also a lovely pool but a little cool !!!. They will organise a little tour of the village with a local man that shows you all the local plants and their uses, takes you up to the monastery and we even visited a retired Gurka soldier who is 100 in December. Really nice half day. If you get the chance I would certainly recommend a stay here. Also has WiFi but only downstairs.
Martam Retreat is tucked away in a quiet area of Sikkem. The hotel is only a year old, and the furnishings and bathrooms are modern, new, and functional. This place has a swimming pool, which is a rare treat for the properties in this area. What's superlative about this place is that it is situated in a small farming village. It overlooks some terraced farm/rice fields and provides a Sikkem experience that is different from the usual places. Furthermore, the staff is very attentive and helpful. They will also give you walking tours of the fields, flora and fauna tours into the woods, or lead an hour trek to a local water fall. The owner went over and beyond when my wife complained about stomach issues. He gave her some medications and wouldn't take our offer to reimburse him. …
Manager and Staff- Hats off to the hospitality of the Manager. He worked very hard to get Cabs arranged for us in peak time. it was coz of his hard work that we cud enjoy our holiday. the other staff were helpful too. Food - Food can definitely be improved as its not good enough for the people coming from food capital of India (Indore). Location - Around 1.5hrs from the city. We were not sure that its located that far therefore we were a little disappointed. Rooms - We had a very peaceful and pleasant stay over there. Rooms were big and decent, not lavish but decent enough. when we entered, there were a few flying insects in the room but the staff removed them and made sure that we had a nice stay. Facilities - the swimming pool is amazing! they also have table tennis, carom and…
Accomodation was delightful, our room was more than comfortable. We would like to see the decor brightened up. It is such a lovely place that this would make all the difference to its presentation. Mr & Mrs Topden and family have a great caring / kindness to their community and workers. We wish them all well into the future. Thank you for making our stay very pleasant.
We spent two nights at Martam Retreat in the month of May. Located in Martam village and surrounded by terraced paddy fields, it is the ideal place if you are looking for peace, quiet and relaxation. The rooms are very spacious with comfortable beds and clean. The decor is simple and unpretentious. Most rooms have a private balcony overlooking the rice fields and the hills, and are perfect for sitting out with a book. Wake up to the singing of varied birds, enjoy the sunset view over a cup of tea, take a stroll in the village or simply enjoy the amenities of the hotel - in door swimming pool, sauna and steam room. A 45 minute to an hour's drive away from Gangtok, Martam Retreat, is a great getaway from the chaotic hustle and bustle of Gangtok town but still close enough to allow…
