Very much a family run hotel. Slightly odd decor in the public areas however the rooms are of a good size, ours had a balcony with a fantastic view over the lake. I would certainly recommend this hotel if only for the view. Breakfast was a very traditional affair with local cheeses, breads and cakes. We ate dinner one night in the restaurant. The food has a local flavour and while not necessarily gourmet it all tasted very good and the staff clearly want to please. This is not a part of France where the English usually go to. I would strongly recommend that one takes the time out to visit the Masif Centrale and to try the local cuisine and especially this friendly hotel.
I booked today, using the TA 'Book now' button: this sent me to getaroom.com's site. It was only after booking there that I got a confirmation: for the rather more downmarket Beau Cottage. I should have distrusted the low price! I've cancelled the booking, but forfeited 30% of the coat (luckily only £12 or so): I'm sure I'd spend more that £12's worth of my time trying to navigate through TA's help pages to try and get that deposit back... Anyway, I've booked the proper hotel now, but NOT through a TA link! I've given Beau Site a 5* rating here because it's unfair to penalise them for TA's mistake, but wanted to warn others.
Only dined here, pleasant dining room, but slightly old-fashioned. Friendly staff. Main course excellent, many vegetables beautifully presented. Other courses adequate but nothing special. Sweet disappointing.
