The place is good to stay and all the staff were very co-operative. We being Jains had thought that we would not get anything to eat, but to our surprise, the chef had really made delicious Jain food for both Dinner and Breakfast. It was very good experience as we were cut off from outside world as there was no network. Total Family time.
This place is just superb! Slept much better than in the posh hotels on the rest of the trip, because of the relaxing atmosphere. Loved sitting on carpets on our verandah. Accommodation full of character and comfortable. Hot water and toilet worked! Obviously a limited choice at dinner and breakfast buffets, but everything was good quality and well cooked. Camel kebabs! Would love to eat them again. Appreciated the welcome of dates and coffee, good to have drinks and fruit available at all times. Would recommend without hesitation.
As a desert camp it ticked all the boxes: good location, pretty rooms, and good food. staff and service was ok. The reason for us to choose this camp over the others was that it is easily accessible with a 2WD (just keep a steady pace and maybe deflate the tires a little). Overall had a great stay, very memorable! :)
This desert resort can be accessed after a long drive of about 250 Km from the City of Muscat. The last journey of about 15 Km is off the main road.. The beautifully laid highway makes your drive easier and comfortable. The last part of of the journey is through a desert, dotted with few similar camps here and there. What waits you at the end of your journey is really a thrilling experience. One can find an old original structure , which is a simple three room house. The house is still maintained with it's old charm for the visitors to experience the type of life they lead in a desert. The camp is built behind the original house. There are many rooms, a separate dining camp, barbecue set up etc which a traveller can enjoy. When we visited it was very pleasant weather with day time temperature hovering around 25 Deg C. The night must be cooler .. The food served was typically Indian and it appears this resort is managed by Indians. Their visiting card shows the name of the place as Al Khuwair. Barbecued chicken was good and even the taste of camel meat, though bit tough was fine. A large spread of Indian dishes as well as salads was reasonably good. For desert they served gulabjamun as well as kheer, an indian style sweet dish. The food is prepared ,depending on the guest choice. The resort has electric power supply and they bring water from outside. If you would like to enjoy a desert experience, this is a wonderful place to visit and stay. …
The Sama desert camp is around 15km from Al Wasil. The rooms are individual buildings, with ensuite shower and toilet facilities. Maybe less "authentic" than a tented camp, but much more comfortable. The food was excellent, both the evening meal and breakfast. If you want you can arrange a camel ride, but the best option is to go "Dune bashing" in a 4x4.
