Some good aspects of this hotel: breakfast and dinner; location; some service. But some poor aspects too. Reception was unfriendly and ill-prepared: we'd booked early entry (confirmed by e/mail) but she had no record of this; we were given a room on the 3rd floor although there were no lifts and I'd been discharged from hospital that morning; the room was very cold and we were told "no heating until 4pm". Shall not stand here again.

Lovely historic hotel, with sweeping staircase and lovely views over the gardens. Our room was very large and spacious. We enjoyed an evening meal in the restaurant (there was even an extra chef's menu) and breakfast. All of the staff very helpful and charming.

Hubby and I had a one night stay here after a 3 course lunch in a VIPod. This was given to me as a birthday gift. We were met In the huge carpark by our waiter Johnny, who kindly directed us to our VIPod. It was lovely and warm in there with music playing quietly in the background. Johnny was friendly efficient, very smartly dressed without being Intrusive. Food was pre ordered and was tasty and Johnny asked us as and when we would like it..so no rush We had upgraded to a privilege room.which was top floor. Lovely size room and bathroom Well presented. We chilled out in the comfy lounge bar. Plenty of chairs and sofas. Tastefully decorated. Service here was good, although I think Steve the barman did have a few problems with the till whilst we were there!!! Receptionist was a friendy young lady. Breakfast was slightly disappointing as regards quality but good continental choice. The VIPod experience made our stay and was well worth it.

We visited The Mercure Bowden Hall Hotel yesterday for afternoon tea as a treat for myself and my 89yr old mum.... We were warmly greeted from the moment we arrived and shown to our window table in the lounge... Our waiter for the afternoon was a lovely man named "Johnny" he was kind, attentive, friendly and nothing was any trouble.... To start with a lovely flute of Champagne followed by the arrival of the The three tier cake /sandwich stand, which was well presented with on the first tier, salmon, coronation chicken, ham, and egg finger sandwiches, the second tier was a lovely assortment of patisseries and the top tier was scones, strawberry jam and clotted cream... We had a choice of speciality teas and coffees.... All of which were scrummy... We were also given little boxes to take home any uneaten treats... All the staff and the surroundings were lovely... and we were made to feel so welcome ... When we visited we noticed the fantastic VI PODS in the grounds which look amazing for a special dining experience....

We had an excellent short break at the hotel. Our room was clean and comfortable. We ate every day in the restaurant and we had no complaints about the quality and choice of the food. The afternoon tea was ample and delicious. We took advantage of the good weather and found some lovely walks around Upton St Leonard. The hotel is situated perfectly to explore the area by foot. The young woman who greeted us on reception was really welcoming and helpful. Terry, in the restaurant, was also very friendly and professional. I would also like to mention the wonderful people of the town who were so very friendly. We even had coffees at the local club. We would definitely return.
