Been to this hotel a couple of times and going back again in 2019. It's brilliant, choice of pools, choice of bars, so much to do and see. there are more than 300 steps down to the sea but worth it when u get there. The staff are lovely and views are magnificent.... can't fault the hotel !!!
Pools excellent, very clean water a bit cool in sept but good fun, entertainers work hard, clean bungalows and lovely views. took 3 kids and easy as they happy pool hopping, football, crazy golf, and slush puppies/choc milks etc etc. fairly close to airport, so no long shuttle, 28 euro taxi. buses go to palma/arenal but if 4 take taxi as slow, but see other places. lot of activities and facilities for budget hotel. been 3 times, booked june 2019. young familys with young kids will love it here. couples will have fun, also nightclub on site but drinks not free.
I got a good deal online for a fully inclusive visit to sun club el Dorado. I didn't have any expectations so it was all very good to me. The staff didn't go out of thier way to help out, when we asked questions they gave little information as possible, along with fake smiles. The twin room I shared was basic, only two towels were provided more more was available on request. The hot water was boiling hot in the sink tap and the shower ran cold mid Washing my hair. The TV was a disaster only one channel and it was in Spanish, soon asking for a remote we were asked for a 20euro deposit. The free alcoholic drinks were served in a tiny plastic cup that you get from a water cooler. Sex on the beech was vodka orange juice and some red syrup. Finally the food was healthy and much selection and vegetarian catered well for but the flies were all over the buffet all day everyday, also wild birds from around the resort were joining us for dinner walking around the restaurant floor looking for scraps. I love animals but not flies crawling on the fresh food that was left around for hours. The food quality and taste is OK. This place is really more for kids and not a place to treat yourself. Also totally taken over by the Brits.
My mam picked this hotel as a cheapy 5 night break away for the two of us, we stayed 8th-13th Oct 2018. Looking at the reviews we were really worried about going, but thought, what the hell, its a break. When we arrived at our bungalow, it was a little worse for wear, but the view made up for it. And i have stayed in worse, we'll get over it. So we unpacked then headed for the bar. But then the rain came and our bungalow flooded. The reception staff were amazing, came down to our room, helped us move to another bungalow and the new one was gorgeous. All the staff were lovely, bar staff remembered your drinks. Wasn't keen on the plastic cups on an evening, but I've been to many other hotels who do this too. Could not fault the food. Was always something nice to eat. Yes there was fly's everywhere, but you really cant blame the hotel/staff for that, yeah maybe there is some things that can be done, i don't know. We just went for the food that the guy had just made(was always something being made in front of you)or what had just been brought out. There was always plenty of free tables and plenty of food. The little supermarket(if you want to call it that) should really have a lot more choice of stock with it being the only one. I wouldn't bother hiring a TV remote unless they've managed to get more then one English channel(well american news). Its an all round decent hotel, that could do with some money being spent. but if you after a quiet getaway, cheap and cheerful and don't have high expectations then this one is good enough. Basically, if you're a 5 star snob,(or even 4 star snob) don't book a low star hotel!!
Two of us stayed here from 7th October – 11th October 2018. We were greeted rudely at Reception and told how much travel tax we would be required to pay. We were then given a leaflet of the resorts ‘facilities’ and given brief directions to our room (which we quickly realised was up a steep hill! Not fun when you have luggage in tow!) The resort itself is pretty run down and there is rubbish and old building materials on view in some areas.
The leaflet provided stated that there is a fee to use almost everything. There was a TV in the room, but you needed to hire the remote in order to use it. You also needed to hire the key to the deposit security box in the room. We decided that we would not pay for either of these after speaking to other guests in the hotel who said you are lucky if the TV picks up two Spanish channels and another confirmed items had gone missing from their key safe (it was clear that reception had a spare key in case the original was lost).
The room was basic which I do not have a problem with as long as the facilities are clean. Our room was not clean. It was dusty with bugs on the floor and mould in the bathroom. The main door handle was really loose which made it difficult to lock. There was no kettle or basic tea making facilities which you would expect from a hotel. We were told that we had a ‘Promo’ Bungalow which we understand is the best this hotel has to offer (Bedroom with seating area). It had a fridge which was good so at least we could chill our drinks as the ones offered in the bars/restaurants were sub-standard. The only decent thing being served was Estrella Beer. You could get ‘Cocktails’ but these were just watery squash with a splash of vodka or tequila. Disgusting. Everything from the bar is served in a tiny plastic cup which means that you have to keep going up for further drinks. It’s such a waste of plastic. I did not see any recycling going on either.
We also had a hob and microwave in our room, both of which did not work and there were no pans/plates or cutlery in order to use these facilities. Be warned that after even mild rainfall, water was coming into our room from under the balcony door. Whilst sat in the entertainment room one evening, we were dripped on by water leaks in the ceiling. The entertainment staff worked really hard but it was still awful. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing holiday then this is not the place as kids run riot. The kids play park slide had a sharp looking split in it which we clocked on our travels around the resort.
As this hotel advertised itself as ‘all-inclusive’ I assumed a pool towel would not be required. Wrong. Nothing is provided.
The timings for the food were odd for example Dinner was between 7-9pm which is very late if you have children. Swarms of people gather in the restaurant at 7pm and it is hard to get any food. We ate here once on the first night and avoided it for the rest of our stay. There were flies everywhere and grime around the food trays. I have food allergies and there were no labels to say what was what. The food looked awful. My sister had some of the lasagne which was watery and smelt bad. We ate chips and a small salad on that first night. The bar snacks areas by the main pool we visited for lunch and again there were thousands of flies on the food and nothing looked appetizing.
The bus service at the top of the road runs from Tolleric to S’Arenal and Palma. This is probably the best thing about this resort. It was our saving grace. A single trip to S’Arenal was EUR2.10 (approx. 30 mins) and to Palma was EUR3.70 (approx. 1 hour 10). We went to both places and ate out all day to avoid the restaurant at the resort. Lovely beaches and plenty of activities to do.
We used the top pool on the last day as the weather was nice. This seems to be the quietest pool. The bar there was closed as it was October. The pool itself was nice with a great sea view however the smell of urinals was not quite as pleasing. You could also smell the horses that are kept at the ranch. These poor animals are neglected and left out in the heat with limited food and water.
This hotel has so much potential. It’s a real shame that it has been neglected and the staff do not seem to care about the service they are providing. It really needs a rather large cash injection to make it into a safe and inviting place for guests to visit. For that reason, in its current state I would not recommend this hotel.
