Just spent a Saturday night at Renaissance Phuket. This was my first visit to a Renaissance hotel. I had wanted to check the resort out for a while. Mai Khao Beach is quite convenient to drive to from where I live and I wanted to find out if the Renaissance would appeal to me. So let's find out. What I like: The welcome drink was tasty (tastes like Thai tea with some fruit juice). The main pool is long. The lawn is very green. The beach was pleasant to look at. The shampoo and shower gel smell very nice. The resort's signature egg benedict tastes surprisingly good. Free and delicious cocktail was provided at the main pool at around 5 pm. The white female staff member at Loca Vore was very attentive. What I don't quite like: The room design was rather bland. Many of the usual 5-star-hotel amenities were not provided (toothbrush, shower cap, etc). Service was 5-star only at some spots and 3- or 4-star at others. Some staff member at the pool bar took joking with the guest (me) too far. Breakfast selection was limited. The chef/cook who operated the egg station could be more friendly (the same goes for those at many other hotels and resorts). Aroma burner/diffuser was not available. Food was not as good as bloggers say. Overall, my stay at Renaissance Phuket was not a waste of money (points in my case), but it was not a stay to remember either. I would describe the resort as a casual luxury resort that targets the younger crowd. You will likely find the resort disappointing if you are not in this target group.

Good afternoon from Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa Thank you for your review and for staying with us. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the pool, the lawns and Phuket’s best breakfast experience, including the famous eggs benedict with local sea grapes. We are also delighted that you enjoyed our new welcome drink and the cocktail by the pool. Our team love to read such feedback and it certainly makes them smile. Thank you also for your feedback regarding the service consistency. We always listen to our guests and take such feedback on board and learn how to deliver even better guest experiences. Additional bathroom amenities are always available on request, as are other items at breakfast. It is a little disappointing to read that you felt the selection at breakfast was limited, as the resort provides a full spread of both local and international food, along with a huge range of made to order eggs, noodle dishes, crepes, pancakes, fresh juices and boosters and other tasty treats. We often visit other resorts to ensure we continue to innovate our offerings and experiences. We do hope to have the opportunity to welcoming you back to Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa and to exceeding your expectations. If you have any further suggestions regarding breakfast, I would be delighted to receive your feedback. Thank you again for your review. regards Brad General Manager and Multi Property Vice President- Marriott International Phuket

'He aha te mea nui tea o? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata!' is a NZ Maori proverb that translated states : What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is people , it is people! When applied to the Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa this is most definitely the case; the people that work there are its greatest asset and will leave an impression that remains with you long after you depart. Everyone from the gardeners who work tirelessly in the heat maintaining the beautiful grounds to the maintenance guys who pass you on their pushbikes and acknowledge you with a greeting and cheeky smile. My partner & I had the privilege of staying at the resort for a month and could not help but be impressed with the team of people who work there. We received a warm welcome & orientation to the Resort from GE Manager Vasco, who was genuine, authentic and sincere. He made himself available throughout our time there and would check in with us periodically to ensure all was well with our stay. The team at Loca Vore (Including Pond, E Pim, Fai , Share & more) won a place in our hearts & made breakfast one of the highlights with their individual personalities , humour and warmth. The camaraderie and support between colleagues added to the positive vibe in the place. Kate the F&B experience manager is a class act and without peer. We dubbed her Wonder Woman as she appeared in all parts of the resort day/night to help out: the interactions we witnessed between herself with guests and colleagues were always upbeat and respectful. We even spotted her armed with a large rubbish bag picking up litter on a walk around the nearby lake (impressive). We were grateful recipients of her warmth, wit, thoughtfulness and attention to detail. Her role modelling and leadership style added to the positive energy at each of the eating venues. We mostly ate at Sandbox and always felt well looked after by Moht and his team. The food was consistently good with many dishes to choose from. The tuna rolls are seriously dangerous and pretty much became a daily habit. R and his crew kept every body poolside smiling and happy with their humour and refills of ice water and delicious cocktails and craft beer. We were also well looked after by the superb housekeeping duo of Dang & Ning who went above and beyond and left small notes wishing us a great day and advising us to let them know if we required anything specific. True superstars!! The only downside to the resort is having to leave, not just because it is a beautiful place to spend time but it is the people, it is people, it is people.

We stayed here for the first night of our trip before heading to Ko Lanta, In that respect this was an excellent choice. The hotel recognised my wife’s Marriott status and we were upgraded to a garden pool Vila which was much appreciated. They also arranged a surprise birthday cake in the villa even though her birthday was later in the holiday. The hotel itself was ok, maybe low season didn’t show it off at its best but I can understand why it gets good reviews. Although probably not a hotel we’d normally stay too long at. But as a first night stopover and for the excellent thoughtful service from the staff we certainly had no regrets staying.

I originally booked a 3 night stay at Renaissance, and decided to extend by a day in order to get a bit more relaxation time in before heading back home to the city. Unfortunately the final day of my stay was rather unpleasant. On the afternoon of my 3rd day, there was quite a bit of noise coming from the villa adjacent to mine. I was trying to relax by the plunge pool at the time, so I found the noise quite disruptive. I decided to walk around and see what was going on, and turns out the noise was coming from a pressure washer. It looked as though the maintenence staff was pressure washing the adjacent villas deck. I wasn't sure how long this would be going on, if it would be an all day thing or if it would be taking place the next day as well, so I called and asked to speak with the front office manager. I told her I had planned to extend my stay by a day, and that if there was going to be maintenence noise coming from the adjacent villa I would opt to move on to another hotel. She asked for a few moments to check for me and said she'd call back. When she called back, she informed me she had already asked the maintenance workers to stop (which they did) and that there wouldn't be any more work taking place. On her word, I decided to extend my stay another night. The next morning, around 10am, I was awakened by some loud rumbling noise coming from outside my villa. It was loud enough that I could hear it over my white noise machine, and loud enough to wake me up. I went outside to see where the noise was coming from and it was coming from the same adjacent villa as the previous day. This time, rather than a pressure washer creating the noise, it was a compressor attached to a pesticide spraying cart. The pest control workers had actually parked the cart and compressor directly outside my villa where it remained for close to an hour. This type of thing is exactly what I was trying to avoid when I called and asked management the day prior about potential work being done next door. I understand maintenance needs to carry on, but this should be communicated to guests so as to minimize the disruption. Especially when guests make the extra effort to call and ask (which they shouldnt have to do in the first place), there's really zero excuse for this information to not be communicated. Additionally, I have multiple sclerosis and with that comes a fairly severe chemical sensitivity. Had I at any point been informed that pesticide spraying would be taking place all over the property during my stay, I'd have cancelled and gone somewhere else, even if it was at my own expense because exposure to these chemicals makes me rather sick. Even without the MS, I still wouldn't want to be breathing in toxici fumes from pesticide spray while relaxing by my pool or walking around the property. I feel the hotel really owns it to guests to keep them informed when it comes to the deployment of potentially irritating/toxic chemicals sprays all over their property, especially since they tend to have lots of small children as guests and children tend to be more sensitive to these toxic chemical irritants. I get the necessity for pest control, but the hotel really should have better procedures in place to ensure guests safety and to limit the impact this work has on guests. As it stands, if you have children or any sort of chemical sensitivity, I'd suggest you avoid this hotel at all costs. I'd suggest calling and asking ahead of time if they plan to conduct chemicals spraying durinf your stay, but they've demonstrated that you can't really trust what they tell you so I'm not sure calling ahead would serve any purpose. It really is disappointing writing this review because I've really enjoyed this place in the past, the staff are all absolutely wonderful, but the lack of concern for safety and the lack of communication is something I can't ignore.

Good afternoon from Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa Thank you for your review and for staying with us. While we are delighted to hear how much you enjoyed the first part of your stay, it is disappointing to hear about the final days. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused. We do aim to ensure all our guests leave satisfied. Given the extreme rainy season, we regularly clean all external surfaces of our villas with high pressure cleaners to ensure they are sparkling clean for arriving guests. This process never impacts our guests, and I am looking into how we can ensure this doesn’t happen again. In regard to the pest control management, I would like to assure you that the hotel deploys approved harmless treatments for unwanted mosquitos throughout the year, especially during the rainy season and the fact the resort is located in a national park. The safety of all our guests and associates is always our number one priority and we are sorry that this impacted your stay. We do hope to have the opportunity to welcoming you back to Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa when your travels bring you back to the island. Please contact me when you are making your plans to ensure I personally meet you to offer my apologies, and that we have an opportunity to deliver on our regular world-class experiences. regards Brad General Manager and Multi Property Vice President- Marriott International Phuket

The service is very good, especially the service at SandBox — Robin, P’Fon and P’Eng are very nice!! For Tekieng, if there are many people you need to be so prepared for long time waiting for food. Breakfast at Loca Vore was sooo good!, the service from all staff was great, even there were so many people. I love the way Kate walked and served us in the restaurant—like a supermodel :)))) Quan spa is also good! Overall, staying here this year was not as comfortable as last year I was here. HOWEVER, all staff tried their best to give us the best experience here, and I will come back here for sure!!!

We spent a beautiful 6 days in this hotel and it is an understatement to say that we are delighted with the service. The rooms are large and spacious, hygiene is at an excellent level. Upon arrival at the hotel, we were greeted by friendly staff in the hotel lobby as well as welcome drinks. We are most impressed with the service at the pool and the friendliness of Mr. R, Sek and Sun. I can say that we had a really royal treatment every day. when they see us approaching the pool, they immediately prepare sunbads and towels for us. They constantly bring iced cold water for us to refresh ourselves, fruits and cold towels that smell wonderful. The cocktails at the pool are outstanding (happy hour from 3-5pm) as is the food at the sand box bar. We definitely recommend this hotel to others and this will definitely be the place where we stay every time we come to Phuket. Another advantage of the hotel is that the hotel has organized transportation to turtle village every half hour, where you can have local thai food for very good prices. I want to tell the hotel management that the kindness and service we received from the employee R is something we will remember this beautiful stay for. Take care of such employees because they are the image of you and your work! all the best!

We spent 10 days at the Renaissance Phuket Ressort and Spa and were amazed. The resort is perfect to relax and the staff was super accommodating. We especially liked the peaceful atmosphere and the beautiful grounds with lots of plants. Much of our time at the Renaissance was spent at the beach and pool area. Here we were very well taken care of by the team around R, Sek and Sun - the team takes care of fresh towels, refreshments and whatever else you need for a relaxing pool day. The food at the Renaissance was also on point. They have an excellent breakfast buffet and two restaurants for lunch and dinner. We ate mostly at Takieng, which serves really delicious Thai food. The service was excellent and we spent great evenings. All in all, an all-around great vacation - we say thank you and will be happy to come back :)

I traveled with my husband for our 4 year wedding anniversary. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty. Vasco, one of the managers at the front desk, made sure to go out of his way to take care of us - and made a grand effort to recognize my Marriott status for being loyal to their brand. The pool staff, Toon and Sek, were fantastic as well. We spent many afternoons at the pool - not only due to it being a wonderful place to hang out, but also due to their exceptional service. The food way exceeded our expectations. Breakfast was a dream come true, and the food at Takieng was the best food we had on our entire 1-month trip to Thailand. Thank you to all at the Renaissance for such a wonderful 5 days! We will be back! :)
