Value
Very natural resort with modern facilities and friendly English speaking staff. Round En-Suite Cottages, Beach Huts and Campground. Licenced Restaurant open to the public and serving a large variety of Thai & English food. This site is one of the most natural and quietest areas of Phuket and a complete contrast to the overdeveloped south. There is no road along the beach so you will not be disturbed by noisy traffic or nightclubs and although we are only a few kilometers from the airport you you cannot hear the aircraft. It is our policy to operate using environmentally friendly practices as much as possible. All building and fittings are recently constructed so you can be sure of clean & presentable facilities.

I visited in March this little resort. The accommodation was clean comfortable and with everything you needed. The owner spoke excellent English. But the most amazing part was the quaint little restaurant situated right on the beautiful sands overlooking the sea of mai Khao.
The food was truly amazing cooked fresh every time I ate there most days of my stay . It was very clean and had a varied menu but the fish and the typical Thai dishes were the best .
Can’t recommend the restaurant highly enough and the accommodation too was very good. I wish them the best as they tried so hard to give a good service.
Thankyou.

Unassuming local restaurant that serves great Thai food by the beach!
The restaurant is situated right beside Melia Resort in Mai Khao.

Seafood was fresh, food was tasty, staff was really friendly too.

Price was fair, less than THB 1,000 for 2 pax.

Highly recommend for those who would like to try some great Thai food around Mai Khal beach

We stayed at Melia resort which is next to this restaurant. We had our food included at Melia but still chose the eat here every second night of our stay. The food is affordable, fresh and tastes amazing. The menu is extensive and every meal we had in the 5 nights we ate here was yum. The service was excellent to and the restaurant and bathrooms very clean.

Initially we loved this place and opted to stay on for extra nights. Koy even helped us book our bus ticket to our onward stay. However, when we got on the bus, all the ticket attendants were surprised and laughed at us, as we had paid twice as much for the tickets. We felt foolish and couldn't understand why she would do this and it left a nasty taste in our mouths. They also had no wifi at all. After this, I would not go back again.

We came to the restaurant which is next door to the Melia hotel (where we were staying). We came at least 3 times and had excellent dinners, food consistently good and staff consistently friendly and nice. We had the fish, the squids, the shrimps and the soups were sooo delicious!

I went for honeymoon and we had been dinner during 5 day. Service and food is excellent. Close to the sea. If you are in the zone please go to visit it. The pork fried is amazing, we recommended 100%. We hope comeback.

This is a nice place to stay if your english, male and over 40. If not, dont bother. The huts are tiny. The owner seems to be helpful at first but isnt. He clearly favors his own kind (english) and doesnt like females to be around. The food is super expensive. If you go south on the beach for about 10m youll find much better and cheaper food. This is also where youll find the beach bungalows for just a little bit more money. If I would have known, I would've stayed there.

Response from SeasideCottages, Owner at Seaside Cottages & Restaurant
Responded 3 Feb 2010
We are not racist, sexist or ageist in any way whatsoever. We have a range of accommodation starting at 15 US Dollars for two people per night in the bamboo beach huts. However the price does not include free phone calls, use of our refrigerator to store food which has been purchased elsewhere, free transport or use of our computer especially if the customer never eats or drinks here. We will always try our best to be helpful to everyone at all times and provide good quality food and service at a fair price. All our food is freshly prepared from the best quality local ingredients so we cannot sell it for the same price as sub-standard street food. Our meals average around 4 dollars per person. If you think that's expensive, please look for accommodation elsewhere.

If you need 24 hr partying, room service, and flat screen sat telly... look elsewhere. If peace and quiet in a beautiful location are what you're after, this is the place for you.

The huts are really simple, basically just a mattress inside (plus a fan in those a bit more expensive). But, honestly, in this place, there's really no need for anything more than that. You can hang out on a beautiful wooden patio, in a well-kept garden under shady big, old trees, and the beach is literally just steps away. Beach is endlessly long and quite serene, but be aware that it is not for swimming because of strong currents (good enough for dipping in, though). The huts are not only pretty, but also very clean. Same thing basically applies to the shared bathrooms as well, although points are deducted for a bit of what looks like mold on the shower curtains. Generally, however, I have to say that the place is in mint condition, especially considering the tiny price you're paying.

Both the location and the obvious love and care the staff dedicate to the place create a one-of-a-kind atmosphere, just a perfect place to rest and set the soul free, no crowds and drunk party people in sight whatsoever. The owner is the nicest person in the world if you share his love for the place, but he seems to be a little harsh towards people coming there expecting something else than it is. Seems a bit like he'll bite you if you'd ask for the nearest club... ;-) Didn't bother us, personally, but maybe something to keep in mind. Likewise, most of the local staff does not speak much English, so be prepared to communicate by smiles and gestures - may not be something when you're under stress, but otherwise only adds to the relaxed feel here.

There are two resorts nearby, other than that Seaside Cottages is pretty much the middle of nowhere. A restaurant with good food is on the compound, there's a tiny shop in the resort next door, and a taxi stand about 800 meters or so away. All in all, that means that bringing your own transport may be worth considering, especially since taxis can be a bit of a hassle. We think it was also worth it because Phuket is a wonderful place to explore at your own terms! A car or motorcycle will furthermore grant you access to beaches nearby to swim, supermarkets, and alternative eateries... all of which are otherwise hard to get to.

Make sure to print off the directions as well... with directions, finding the place is quite simple; without them, however, probably next to impossible.

All in all, we'd definitely come back again... a wonderfully relaxing experience in beautiful surroundings at a price that's impossible to beat!

Stayed 2 nights in one of the bungalow fan huts, mattress was comfy and hut nicely decorated. The bathrooms were cleaned regularly. Beach itself is a few meters from the huts, it's a beautiful beach that has hardly any other people on it. This place is a perfect escape frm large crowds. Would def go back.

I was amazed to find a place like this still in existence on Phuket. I had stayed in beach huts on Phuket and Samui in the 80's when infrastructure was just a dream. The result of that was idyllic and laid back holidays with few choices: eat, drink, sleep, swim, read, maybe another swim. None of the trawling round awful ... awful energy sapping and ire inducing generic tourist drawcards: fake goods shops, Aussie bars, English bars, Irish pubs all with TVs showing news and sport from home; brothels posing as traditional massage parlours etc.

If that is the Phuket/Thailand you're after then this place is not for you.

The accommodation is basic - but it is sufficient. The toilet block was spotless. My room (hut) was cleaned satisfactorily and the restaurant served really very good food. Out of their control was the weather. It rained from dawn til dusk for 5 days but I was actually pretty content with the choice made and a very relaxing stay.

I hope Seaside C & R will outlast the faceless developments that threaten this island - So - go, and take advantage of staying somewhere that enables a cheap and easy holiday.
