We booked the hotel through popular booking site. The hotel didn't honor the reservation and the hotel cancelled the reservation in the last minute due to which we have to cancel our plan. If you want guaranteed hotel accommodation, this is NOT the place.
Spent the New Year's at Gitanjali Heritage. If you are looking to stay off the radar, this is the best place. This heritage home is away from the hustle and bustle of traffic, and it is the perfect place to spend a couple of peaceful days and visit the nearby places. The house is filled with nice curios and knick-knacks. The hosts Jeganathan and Latha, and their help Jasmitha are very friendly and will make you feel at home. The grandmother will definitely remind you of your own. And yeah, if you are a dog lover, there are the resident dogs Bobby and Ruby! Breakfast, lunch, dinner are included in the price.
If you wish to travel beyond the weather-beaten and well-trod tourist path of south and central Kerala, try Bekal in north Kerala. It has a mix of history, culture, mythology, ancient temples, old forts and battlements, pristine beaches and fabulous cuisine. And if you do go to Bekal, please stay at the Gitanjali Heritage. It's an experience worth remembering. We travelled during January and were wondering where to stay. There is the usual chain of hotels in Bekal, many of which are excellent properties. However, we were intrigued by what Gitanjali Heritage was offering and opted for a home-stay alternative. The hosts, Latha & C Jagannath, are a wonderful couple and exceedingly hospitable. They made our stay very, very memorable. It was our 25th wedding anniversary and they went out of their way to make it really wonderful. Mr Jagannath is a soft-spoken, knowledgeable person who is well integrated with the local community. If you need to understand the history, culture and sociology of the region, he's your man. In fact, he even took pains to drive us around to show us some of the old historical sites around the Bekal-Kasargod region. The house is huge, spacious and comfortable. The rooms and the attached toilets are clean and functional. There is wifi, provided by Mr Jagannath. The icing is Ms Latha's cooking, which is out of this world; all meals are special. I would highly recommend Gitanjali Heritage to anybody travelling to those parts.…
What we appreciated most was the introduction we were give to Hindu culture. We were taken to the local Hindu temple, to a wedding and to an incredible village Theyyam. Jagganarth, Latha and their son Arjun are more than happy to discuss their culture in all its aspects. On top of this we enjoyed a day on a houseboat and a massage. The rooms are slightly disappointing because they are internal, but this is made up for by the wonderful balcony which is the epitome of the heritage architecture. The food was lovely and they evening taught us to cook it
In true Hindu spirit, Jagannath and Latha and Arjun were exceptionally generous with their time and efforts to make our stay truly memorable and interesting. A choice of rest or reading in the lovely indoor balcony or activities like our visit to the families land including our first sight of rubber, coffee, pepper and nutmeg growing in situ. We also went to a local Theyam where we were treated like special guests and were offered tea and bananas at the organisers home and had Ayurvedic massages. What more could you ask for. Finally, Jagannath arranged for us to have a night on a houseboat! Latha's food was wonderful - morning, noon and night.... We cannot thank them enough.
