We stayed in the utter lap of luxury here. Our room was the 'red butterfly' room with our own butler who was a lovely chap indeed. We cannot say enough wonderful things about Kandy House -- amazing setting, lovely pool grounds, wonderful food & cocktails and attentive charming staff. Thanks for all!

Built in 1804, by the last Chief Minister of the Kandy Kingdom, Ratwatte Adigar Kandy House is now a beautifully restored, boutique hotel with only nine rooms. All rooms have their own style and character. We stayed in Sunbeam, one of the smaller rooms which is situated on the first floor and looks out onto the garden for three nights....

We spent three nights in the Pioneer room at the Kandy House and were hugely impressed. Our stay followed three nights at the excellent Tea Trails and I was concerned the Kandy House would struggle to live up to the polish and elegance of our tea country bungalow - I shouldn't have worried. Our room was superb - it's set...

Everything was perfect in this small boutique hotel in the countryside, a few miles from the centre of Kandy. We had a room on the first floor overloooking the expansive grounds and swimming pool. We hade a private butler who was excellent and who took us for a walk to the local temple, which was superb. The room was very...

We only stayed here for one night, and as soon as we arrived I knew we were going to regret that. The welcome was lovely, and our room was very spacious, clean and incredibly characterful, with a beautiful old freestanding bath and a four poster bed. We had a lovely terrace area too. The food was simply amazing and the...

This small hotel is lovely, has the best pool ever, secluded and surrounded by wildlife and birdsong. Food is great, service immaculate. Delightful people running the hotel, like it's their home. gives you a real feel for life as the colonials must have lived it. Stay here if you can get a room.

We stayed here for three nights and were not disappointed. I can only say positive things about it as it was everything we hoped it would be. We had the Pioneer garden room with its own garden, huge swing and outdoor table. So a smaller room than the others but not if you add in the garden which made it...

We broke our journey across Sri Lanka for just one night at The Kandy House but wished we had stayed longer as it is an oasis of calm and tranqulity. We stayed in Cornelian but unlike other reviewers did not find it smelly. True there is only one chair in the room but there are loungers and chairs on the...

We spent two nights here recently and loved the Kandy House. We arrived early evening in the dark but as we approached the trees were beautifully lit up with lights. The hotel is the former residence of the first minister back in the 1800s and the feel of the hotel is of colonial luxury. There a few rooms and the...

We stayed only one night and loved it. Kandy is so busy and chaotic but an essential part of our adventure as we were catching the train from there to Hatton in the morning. The Kandy house is just outside the city and a welcome respite from the madness. Beautiful, colonial but with all modern conveniences. Superb food, and a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Kandy House is a unique ancestral manor house (walauwa) providing seclusion and serenity for its guests in a lush, tropical garden setting, close to Kandy. With only 9 bedrooms, this Kandy hotel, aims is to give guests an experience of staying more in a private house than a conventional hotel. Traditional Kandyan architecture has been blended with Bawa-influenced modern, polished titanium cement floors and bathrooms. In the gardens, a stunning infinity pool has been landscaped into the hillside overlooking the rice paddy fields. Delicious European fusion and Sri Lankan cuisine is on offer. Well-placed to spend time to relax as well as explore a broad selection of Sri Lanka's primary destinations in the Cultural Triangle and Tea Country, including the Temple of the Tooth and the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. The house can also be booked as a whole for important celebrations with friends, or just for the peace of mind of a group having total privacy away from the public eye. The Kandy House also makes an ideal honeymoon hotel in Sri Lanka, in a quiet peaceful setting, honeymooners can enjoy the infinity pool, private dining, yoga or massages. ... more   less
