My friend and I booked into Keenan’s this week for One night.
We visited Fore Abbey and had a lovely day.

On arrival we had our temperature taken. Full marks for that. We booked a table for dinner at 19:00. When we arrived our table and chairs were sanitised before we sat down, again full marks. We had an ok meal, which was expensive for what it was, one step up from bar food at restaurant prices. The room was small, it was supposed to be a twin, it was a double with separate mattresses, we didn’t mind, but would not suit everyone. It was stuffy and overlooked roofs where the boilers etc were, so opening a window was not an option. At €120 I didn’t consider it good value.

The most disappointing thing was the breakfast, we were told due to Covid a basket would be delivered to our room. When I spend a night away in a hotel I look forward to the breakfast, having something I wouldn’t cook for myself at home.

There was plenty in the basket, granola in a plastic tub, fresh fruit in the same, croissants, and brown bread. Unfortunately, what should have been 2 slices of brown bread wrapped in cling film turned out to be one slice with what looked like a piece cut from the heel, it had green mould on it, the single serving pot of jam was empty. That made me uncomfortable as it must have come back from another room. I phoned and told the lady, and shortly afterwards 3 fresh slices of bread and a new pot of jam were delivered to our room. The worst part of breakfast for me was the inability to have a big mug or pot of tea, the two little tea cups which you needed to make from the kettle are not enough for me. Two mugs or a teapot in the basket would have been a welcome addition.

In fairness we were told we could order a cooked breakfast at a particular time at an additional charge of €10 each, as we had already paid €60 each for B&B we didn’t avail of it.

On our way out, paying the bill, the lady didn’t ask us if we had enjoyed our stay. Nothing, not did you sleep well, did you have a pleasant evening, I assume the same lady took my phone call and didn’t want to give me any opportunity to complain.

That’s the reason I am only giving 3 stars. I would use the restaurant again if I was in the area, but wouldn’t stay there again.

Just spent a night in this beautiful hotel with four girlfriends for a special birthday celebration. We arrived in the middle of the Sunday lunch busy time but were made to feel welcome and special. The rooms are lovely and very comfortable and some are looking out on the beautiful Shannon river. We had a great dinner, lovely food and excellent service. Breakfast was also freshly cooked with a great variety of fresh fruits, cereals and breads. Would highly recommend this hotel.

We arrived on Sunday 27th September @ 2.20pm without a reservation yet we were allocated a table within 2-3mins. Considering it was for four adults and two children- 1 four year old and 1 infant needing a high-chair, this was great. The food was exceptional. When the food was presented, the 20 minutes between ordering and receiving, was well worth the wait. Everyone cleared their plates. What more can you ask. Congratulations to all involved. Liam.

We stayed in Keenan’s on our way back from a motorbike tour of the west of Ireland. We chose this hotel as it was right in the middle of Ireland and perfect as a stop over before returning home. Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Our room was tastefully decorated and had a little balcony overlooking the river where you could watch the boats passing. We had a delicious meal in the restaurant and opted for the fresh continental breakfast basket for a change. This was very quaint and fitting with the boutique style of the hotel. We would definitely stay here again.

We had a lovely stay at Keenan's, the staff were excellent and rooms very tasteful. Excellent location with rooms facing the Shannon. We arrived by bike after cycling on the Royal Canal Greenway and Keenan's provided a secure cycle store.

Myself and my partner went in for dinner in the restaurant. We were seated quickly and member of staff who seated us and took our order was polite but not very friendly.
When we received our drinks and food however, the waiter had practically thrown the food at us. He was rude and had no manners at all. Did not ask if we were okay for anything else, no attempt to look at us or make any effort to be polite towards us whatsoever.
My partner's dish was bland and not very enjoyable, my dish was lovely and very flavourful, but for the price the portion size was not great. It is highly unlikely that we will be dining here again.

Family hotels like Keenans is where the Irish phrase "Cead Mile Failte" came out of. Only wished we were staying a few nights. We came off the greenway on bikes & got secure bike storage, a great meal with a few pints. Lovely atmosphere in the bar with really good friendly staff. The breakfast was huge & served in a beautiful room overlooking the river. The rooms & hotel in general are tastefully decorated with a great sense of style.

We went to Keenan's for a christening celebration. We arrived a little early and were shown to a very cosy space in the bar area and we ordered prosecco which arrived quickly. Our table for lunch was in the main dining room and we were very well looked after. We ordered from a special menu which had a great variety of choice for everyone. The food was well presented and really tasty, and the service was friendly and efficient. We enjoyed it very much.

At E17.95 for Wagyu burger, i was expecting a nice juicy burger. However it was overdone, hard and obviously not freshly cooked. The Southern fried chicken which was on special was also overdone. The chips were fresh and tasty. We have eaten here before and now think this bar is going downhill. It was a handy stop when travelling but I wont be eating there again, When paying the bill the girl asked if everything was ok. I said the burger was overdone and got no apology or reply from her.

The hotel is stunning! Interior design has been completed with taste and sophistication. Annette was the most wonderful host as was her son who delivered the most fabulous breakfast. The location is perfect with lots of lovely walks on your doorstep including the river outside the front door. I cannot wait to return especially when restrictions are eased
